Police officers staked out offenders who had been told by a judge not to drive and/or who had been told of their license suspension. Ten (10) offenders were followed by officers from courtrooms to their vehicles to ensure that they were not driving. While some offenders complied with the law and had alternate means of transportation, two (2) individuals proceeded to get behind the wheel and drive away from the court house.     Today, May 22nd, 2018 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., officersfrom the Santa Rosa Police Department conducted an undercover ‘Court Sting’operation at the Sonoma County Courthouse, targeting suspected drivers whoselicenses were suspended/revoked or who were unlicensed drivers.

    Police officers staked out offenders who had been told by a judge not to driveand/or who had been told of their license suspension. Ten (10) offenders werefollowed by officers from courtrooms to their vehicles to ensure that they were notdriving. While some offenders complied with the law and had alternate means oftransportation, two (2) individuals proceeded to get behind the wheel and driveaway from the court house. The two individuals were:

    Santa Rosa Police Department Announces Results ofCourt Sting Operation

    On January 31st, 2017 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., officers fromthe Santa Rosa Police Department conducted an undercover ‘Court Sting’ operationat the Sonoma County Courthouse, targeting suspected drivers whose licenses weresuspended/revoked or who were unlicensed drivers.

    Police officers staked out offenders who had been told by a judge not to drive and/orwho had been told of their license suspension. Nine offenders were followed byofficers from courtrooms to their vehicles to ensure that they were not driving. Whilemost offenders complied with the law and had alternate means of transportation, fiveindividuals proceeded to get behind the wheel and drove away from the court house.

Sixteen offenders were followed by officers from courtrooms to their vehicles toensure that they were not driving.  While most offenders complied with the law and had alternate meansof transportation, three individuals proceeded to get behind the wheel and drove away from the courthouse.

    This special DUI operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through theNational Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

    Petaluma Police Department Announce Results of

    DUI Court Sting Operation

    On June 8, 2016 between the hours of 8:00am and 11:30am officers from the Petaluma Police Department assisted by Santa Rosa Motor Officers conducted an undercover ‘Court Sting’ operation at the Sonoma County Superior Court targeting suspected DUI drivers whose licenses were suspended/revoked or who were unlicensed drivers.

    Police officers staked out offenders who had been told by a judge not to drive and/or who had been told of their license suspension. Over 30 offenders were followed by officers from courtrooms to their vehicles to ensure that they were not driving. While some offenders complied with the law and had alternate means of transportation, 2 individuals in court for DUI and previous license violations proceeded to get behind the wheel and drove away from the court house or surrounding areas.

    Those who chose to drive were stopped by waiting officers. Among those stopped for driving while suspended or unlicensed then were cited back into court:

    Lewis a 50 year old male from Rohnert Park was in court for a 2015 DUI arrest and also had a suspended driver’s license from this DUI. was followed from the court room and seen by officers getting into a Toyota pickup and driving away from the court house.

    was stopped by police and admitted to knowing his license was suspended and had just come from court. He was issued a citation for driving on a suspended license.

    Daniel a 38 year old male from Auburn was in court for a prior citation for driving on a suspended license. While in court was admonished by the judge 3 times to not drive. was followed by an officer who had been seated in the court

    room to a parking lot near Mendocino Ave. drove away in a Mazda Protégé and was stopped by a motor officer a short distance away. was cited for driving on a suspended drivers license and the vehicle which belonged to his mother was impounded for 30 days. During an impound search of the vehicle prescription medications which were not prescribed to and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle. He was issued a citation for these offenses as well.

    Those arrested today could face additional jail time, long driver license suspensions, along with other financial hits including attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work, and the potential loss of job or job prospects. When family, friends and co-workers find out, violators can also face tremendous personal embarrassment and humiliation.

    DUI Court Sting stakeout operations, along with regularly scheduled high visibility DUI enforcement, serve as a proven deterrent with the goal of keeping impaired drivers from the road and heightening awareness among the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

    1 Driver Arrested After Driving Away

    Santa Rosa, California – The AVOID the 13 Sonoma County DUI Task Forceconducted an undercover court sting at the Sonoma County Hall of Justice todaybetween the hours of 8:30am and 12:00pm. Officers from Petaluma PoliceDepartment, Santa Rosa Police Department, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office,Cotati Police Department and the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safetyparticipated in the operation. Officers in plain clothes monitored defendantsappearing in court for DUI offenses as well as suspended and unlicensed violations.When defendants left the court, the undercover officers maintained surveillance ofthem as they walked outside to their vehicle. If the suspended or unlicensed drivergot behind the wheel of a vehicle and drove away they were apprehended by motorofficers waiting nearby.

    It was later learned Defense Attorneys were advising their clients of the undercoverofficers in the courtroom and to not drive away from the courthouse.

    The operation resulted in 1 driver being arrested and cited. The following driver wasstopped during the operation.

    Michael , age 56, from Santa Rosa, driving on a suspended license.

    ’s vehicle was stopped and impounded for 30 days. This operation wasconducted as part of 2014 Summer Mobilization Period that began Friday August15, 2014 and continues through Monday, September 1, 2014. The purpose of theoperation is to apprehend dangerous drivers and reduce alcohol related fatal andinjury collisions through increased enforcement and public awareness.     An undercover sting by the Petaluma and Santa Rosa police departments Wednesday netted a Santa Rosaresident who was allegedly driving on a suspended license, according to a joint statement released by thedepartments.

    The operation took place at the Sonoma County Courthouse, where officers from both departments targetedsuspected DUI drivers whose licenses were suspended and/or revoked or who were driving without a license.

    Police said they identified about 15 suspects who were told by the courts they weren’t permitted to drive.Each suspect was followed out to their cars to ensure they were complying with the law.

    Steven , 53, of Santa Rosa, was the only suspect who got behind the wheel and drove himself awayfrom the courthouse, police said. , who was driving on a suspended license, was cited and his vehicleimpounded, according to police.

    The operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the NationalHighway Traffic Safety Administration.

    7 DRIVERS APPREHENDED

    DURING UNDERCOVER COURT STING

    Santa Rosa, California – The AVOID the 13 Sonoma County DUI Task Force conducted an

    undercover court sting at the Sonoma County Hall of Justice today between the hours of

    8:30am and 1:00pm. Officers in plain clothes monitored defendants appearing in court for

    DUI offenses as well as suspended and unlicensed violations. When defendants left the

    court, the undercover officers maintained surveillance of them as they walked outside to

    their vehicle. If the suspended or unlicensed driver got behind the wheel of a vehicle and

    drove they were apprehended by motor officers waiting nearby. This morning’s operation

    resulted in 7 drivers being apprehended.

    The following drivers were stopped and cited during the operation:

    At 0850, Clint , age 36, from Bodega Bay was stopped driving away from the

    courthouse after appearing on a violation of probation case from a DUI. He has two prior

    arrests for DUI (2008, 2010) and is currently on DUI probation with terms to drive only if

    licensed and insured. He did not have a valid license and cited and his vehicle towed.

    At 0905 hours, Leif , age 23, from Santa Rosa, was stopped driving away from

    the courthouse with a suspended license for failing to appear in court on seven (7) traffic

    citations. He was cited and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

    At 1000 hours, Patrick age 57, from Sebastopol, was stopped driving away from

    the courthouse with a suspended license from a DUI after not being in compliance with a

    court order to have an ignition interlock device installed in his vehicle. He has two prior DUI

    arrests (2004, 2011). He was cited and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

  • At 1125 hours, Agustin , age 29, from Windsor, was stopped driving away

    from the court house with a suspended license for failing to appear on three (3) prior traffic

    citations. He was cited and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

    At 1145 hours, Shelise , age 29, from Guerneville, was stopped driving away

    from the courthouse on a suspended license from a DUI in May 2013. She also has a prior

    DUI in 2008. She was cited and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

    At 1215 hours, Clyde , age 58, from Windsor, was stopped driving away from the

    courthouse on a suspended license from a DUI in April of 2013. He was cited and his

    vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

    At 1220 hours, Pedro , age 48, from Petaluma, was stopped driving away

    from the courthouse on a suspended license for DUI from 2012. He was also on active DUI

    probation with terms not to drive unless licensed and insured. He was cited and his vehicle

    was impounded for 30 days.

    This operation is being conducted as part of the 2013 National Summer Mobilization period

    that began on Friday, August 16th and ends September 2, 2013. The intended purpose is to

    apprehend dangerous drivers and reduce alcohol related fatal and injury collisions through

    increased enforcement and public awareness. There will be additional court stings

    throughout the remainder of the year. Funding for the Avoid Campaign is made possible

    through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway

    Traffic Safety Administration.

    The Petaluma Police Department serves as the lead agency for the regional DUI

    enforcement efforts in Sonoma County to reduce alcohol-involved fatalities and injuries and

    raise general public awareness regarding the problems associated with drinking and driving.

    Participating agencies include Police Departments from the cities of Cloverdale, Cotati,

    Healdsburg, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Sonoma, Windsor, the

  • Community Santa Rosa Police Announce Results of DUI CourtSting Operation

    On July 31, 2012 between the hours of 7:30 am to 12:30 pm officers from the Santa Rosa

    and Petaluma Police Department’s conducted an undercover court sting operation at the

    Sonoma County Court House targeting DUI, suspended, and unlicensed drivers. Police

    officers staked out offenders who had been told by a judge not to drive and followed them

    from courtrooms to the parking area to be sure they were not driving due to a suspended or

    revoked license. Six offenders were followed outside by officers. While some offenders had

    alternate means of transportation, one driver got behind the wheel and drove away from the

    court house. The driver was stopped by waiting officers.

    The subject that was arrested for driving on a suspended license after leaving the

    courthouse was identified as:

    • J s, 33 years of Yountville has two current suspensions against his driver’s

    license for driving while intoxicated.

    s’ vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days as a result of the operation.

    court sting operation at the Sonoma County Court House targeting DUI,

    suspended, and unlicensed drivers. Police officers staked out offenders who

    revoked license. Fourteen offenders were followed outside by officers. While

    some offenders had alternate means of transportation, 8 got behind the

    wheel and drove away from the court house. Those who chose to drive were

    stopped by waiting officers.

    • (63 year old Windsor resident). has two current suspensions

    Repeat DUI Offenders Caught Driving Away From Court

    Santa Rosa, California – AVOID the 13 Sonoma County DUI Task Force conducted an

    undercover court sting at the Sonoma County Hall of Justice today between the hours of 8:30am

    and 12:00pm. Officers from Petaluma Police Department, Santa Rosa Police Department,

    Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, Sebastopol Police Department, Healdsburg Police Department,

    Cotati Police Department, and Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety participated in the

    operation. Officer in plain clothes monitored defendants appearing in court for DUI offenses as

    well as suspended and unlicensed violations. When defendants left the court, the undercover

    officers maintained surveillance of them as they walked outside to their vehicle. If the suspended

    or unlicensed driver got behind the wheel of a vehicle and drove they were apprehended by

    motor officers waiting nearby. This morning’s operation resulted in five drivers being

    apprehended.

    At 9:35am, ****, age 46, from Rohnert Park was stopped after driving away on a suspended

    license from a previous driving on a suspended license case where he failed to appear. That

    violation was from a previous DUI conviction. He was issued a citation to appear in court and his

    vehicle was impounded.

    At 9:50am, ****, age 41, from Boyes Hot Springs, was stopped after driving away on a

    suspended license for two prior DUI offenses. He was issued a citation to appear and his vehicle

    was impounded for 30 days.

    At 10:06am, ****, age 26, from Willits was stopped after driving away on a suspended license

    for failing to appear in court for driving without a license. His vehicle was impounded for 30

    days. He was issued a citation to appear in court.

    At 10:45am, ****, age 45, from Sonoma was seen driving away on a suspended license for 3

    prior DUI’s. He was appearing in court for two pending driving on a suspended license

    violations. He was issued another citation for driving on a suspended license and his vehicle was

    impounded for 30 days.

    On Tuesday April 12, 2011, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.,officers from the Santa Rosa Police Department and the Petaluma PoliceDepartment, with the assistance of the Sonoma County Auto Theft TaskForce, conducted an undercover court sting operation at the Sonoma CountyCourthouse targeting DUI, suspended, and unlicensed drivers. Police officersstaked out offenders who had been told by a judge not to drive and followedthem from courtrooms to the parking area to be sure they were not driving

    due to a suspended or revoked license. Numerous offenders were followed outside by officers. Whilesome offenders had alternate means of transportation, four got behind the wheel and drove away fromthe courthouse. Those who chose to drive were stopped by waiting officers.

    4 subjects were arrested for driving on a suspended license after leaving the courthouse:

    (52 years old) was arrested while driving on a suspended license. as beenarrested for driving on a suspended license 3 times in Sonoma County since January of 2008and has 4 current suspensions against his driver’s license. has been arrested twice since2008 for DUI.

    (24 years old) was arrested for driving on a suspended license as well as for anoutstanding warrant for his arrest from Alameda County. This is the second time in 2011 that

    has been arrested for driving on a suspended license in Sonoma County. He has oneprior DUI arrest in February of 2011.

    (61 years old) was arrested for driving on a suspended license and currentlyhas two valid suspensions to his driver’s license. has been arrested 3 times in SonomaCounty since 2010 for driving on a suspended driver’s license.

    (33 years old) was arrested for driving on a suspended license and has 3arrests since 2010 for driving on a suspended license. She has two prior DUI arrests in 2004.

    3 subjects were arrested for driving with no license issued:

    (20 years old) was arrested after leaving the courthouse for an appearance on aprior traffic offense for driving without a driver’s license. was cited to appear in court.

    (22 years old) was arrested after leaving the courthouse for an appearance on aprior assault charge. was cited to appear in court.

    (21 years old) was arrested after leaving the courthouse for an appearanceon a prior DUI arrest and has 3 arrests for driving without a license issued to him since 2009.

    was cited to appear in court and released.

    All subjects were cited to appear in court and released at the scene, with the exception of .

    All seven vehicles were impounded for 30 days.

    On November 23, 2010, between the hours of 8:00 a.m., and 12:00 p.m.,officers from the Santa Rosa Police Department conducted an undercovercourt sting operation at the Sonoma County Courthouse targeting DUI,suspended, and unlicensed drivers. Police officers staked out offenders whohad been told by a judge not to drive and followed them from courtrooms tothe parking area to be sure they were not driving due to a suspended orrevoked license. Ten offenders were followed outside by officers. While some

    offenders had alternate means of transportation, four got behind the wheel and drove away from thecourthouse. Those who chose to drive were stopped by waiting officers.

    3 subjects were arrested for driving on a suspended license after leaving the courthouse:

    · (23 years old) has been arrested for driving on a suspended license 4times in Sonoma County since January of 2008.

    · (40 years old) has been arrested for driving on a suspended license 4times since February of 2008 and was in court on November 23rd for violating the terms of hiscourt ordered probation.

    · (26 years old) has been arrested for driving on a suspended license 3 timesin Sonoma County since 2007.

    1 subject was arrested for driving with no license issued:

    · (20 years old) was arrested after leaving the courthouse for anappearance on a prior theft charge. does not have a driver’s license.
