Fellow Knights,
As the Co-
lumbian year 2008-
2009 draws to a
close, I would like
to congratulate our
Grand Knight Efren
Alejandria and the
entire Executive of
our Council for a most successful
year.
Congratulations also to Carl
Folk our Knight of the Year and to
Dr. Mody Escanlar and his family
who were named the Family of the
Year for 2008-2009.
On Friday May 29, 2009,
representatives of the Father Hugo-
nard 4th Degree Assembly, the Father
John Riffel 4th Degree Assembly and
the Santo Nino Council had a very
successful luncheon meeting at the
Hotel Saskatchewan Radisson Plaza
to plan our Canada Day celebrations.
I’m sure that our 2009 Canada Day
Mass and outdoor lunch and festivi-
ties will be a huge success.
At this time I would like to
pledge my complete support to our
Grand Knight elect Pete Escanlar as
he becomes the Grand Knight of the
Good Ship Santo Nino as we sail on
to another fruitful year.

A hard day’s work
Of stress and toil
Brings me homing
To your solace.
Racked by Weltschmerz

Of health and cure

In holy grace.

Message from our Grand Knight
Brother Knights,
The Columbian Year 2008-2009 will
end.soon. I am thankful to my brothers in Christ
especially to my DGK Pete Escanlar, without
whom my term would have passed without ac-
complishing much. Thank you , muchas gratias,
maraming salamat.
I am also very grateful to our loving
Chaplain, Fr. Emmett Morrissey for supporting
us all the way with his spiritual guidance. Thank
you, merci beaucoup, comas mida, dziekuje.
Since January 2009, we had two First Degree Exemplifi-
cations at Blessed Sacrament Church; attended the retreat at St.
Michael’s in Lumsden; and recently, entertained senior citizens at
Santa Maria Nursing Home with bingo, coffee, and donuts.
The Knights of Columbus will host the Special Olym-
pics on June 19 to 21 in Regina. Our Council was part of the plan-
ning of the project that started five months ago and was given the
responsibility to deliver food to over 300 athletes, chaperones, and
volunteers in four different venues.
For Council’s own project, the planning for the Canada
Day Mass and Brunch will start on Friday, May 29. Since we
started this seven years ago, we have fed around 400 to 500 peo-
ple per year. It has become so popular in the community that even
those from different faiths came to celebrate Canada Day with us.
This will be my last activity as GK of Santo Nino Coun-
cil but will be the first program activity for the incoming GK Pete
Escanlar for the Columbian Year 2009-2010.
Efren Alejandria
Last April 12, 2009 at South Leisure Center, the
Easter bunny took a break from hiding eggs to visit, play and
dance with Santo Nino Council kids. Rance Dimaano, son of
Bro. Rey Dimaano led the opening prayer. GK Efren Alejan-
dria shared his thoughts on the importance Easter. Weng and
Tita Paz coordinated the games and that was so much fun.
The kids were all excited to shake hands with Easter Bunny
who posed for pictures and started some bunny dance. This
egg-citing event had lots of games, pictures with the bunny,
egg hunting, and coloring contest.
This event will not be successful without the help of
the following: Bro. Rey and Anne Dimaano for the prepara-
tion of food, Bro. Jim and Gina Johnson for a delicious spa-
ghetti, GK Efren and Tita Paz Alejandria for the arroz caldo,
my wife Weng and my kids for the games and hosting the
event. Thank you for all your endless support. Special thanks
for Babes Pamintuan for helping us in the kitchen.
Brother Knights, Ladies and Families,
Two years being District Deputy pro-
vided me great opportunities. It allowed me
to interact with the other councils not just in
Regina but with the whole province. I meet
and work with chapter leaders and the State
Board. I lived up with the expectation that a
Knight of Santo Nino Council can contribute
to the set goals of the Order. They are not
attainable without your great support and
confidence. Your push and determined efforts to be a council
worth reckoning with served as a strong and deep motivation.
During your decade of existence you have proven that
united council members can shine among other councils and
had been shown by your numerous Star Council Awards.
As the 2008 - 2009 Columbian year comes to an end, my
hat's off to the past executives who added vibrancy to our
council. Congratulations to the newly elected officers and I
look forward to a fun, challenging year.
To Father Morrissey who inspires and leads us on our spiri-
tual journey and stands shoulder to shoulder with us in serving
the church and community, thank you.
To the ladies of our council who supported and assisted our

Message from our District Deputy
E. Alejandria
Editorial: “IF IT AIN’T BROKE…!”
We are about to embark on a new Columbian Year and the
council is abuzz with excitement and anticipation….what with the
new officers being sworn in and the Canada Day celebrations com-
ing up so fast. We are all looking forward to the prospects of new
faces doing new things, etc. With the advent of all this, we need to
take a hard look at what we now have in terms of expertise, experi-
ence, knowledge and skills and also, dependability. Let us appraise
and recognize the talents and gifts that we now enjoy from our
members, as well as, the spiritual knowledge, guidance and support
we receive consistently from our chaplain, Fr. Emmett Morrissey.
We must continue to move forward with new and innovative pro-
jects however, let us not lose sight of the wonderful counsel and
strength of the council’s treasures. Let’s take advantage of the gifts
that the Lord has bestowed on us through our beloved chaplain,
who epitomizes the Life we look to follow…..the Life of Jesus
Christ.
In a nutshell, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”. JLA
