WSET DIPLOMA IN SANTORINI & ATHENS I 2

It has been 10 years since we initiated the first WSET Diploma® in Greece although the whole process of representing the WSET® in our country had begun at least three years before

that. The vision of the W.S.P.C.® team was, right from the beginning, twofold. On the one hand, we wished to create a structure, a means by which our students could be helped to achieve their dreams - their wine-related ones at least! On the other hand, we wanted to help, or rather facilitate, the raising of the standards of the wine industry in Greece, Balkans and Mediterranean.

OUR OBJECTIVES are such that it can never be said that they are fully achieved, but I think that our first decade was full of important developments. Developments that many times went way beyond our initial vision. For example, our 2009 award as the best WSET® Centre worldwide, our ever increasing involvement with many other WSET® centres around the world, coupled, needless to say, with the excellent work of the Greek wine producers all helped to give a greater emphasis on Greek wine and to “get on the radar” of hundreds of thousands of WSET® students in more than sixty countries for ten years.

THE NEXT DECADE, the second one, challenges us to set the bar even higher. In the years to come, the challenge is not only to upgrade the internal dynamics of the wine industry, but to make Mediterranean wines even more important within the global environment as the tourist product of our country but also for exports. All this, is certainly pretty ambitious. But that is what we said ten years ago...

Thank you for everything!

Konstantinos Lazarakis MW President of W.S.P.C.® LTD Curriculum Vitae: http://wspc.gr/en/wspc-greece/people/35

Letter from the Chair, Konstantinos Lazarakis MW

THE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY in the international market for these top educational institutions - WSET® & CMS® - are implemented through the selection and cooperation with a specialised network of approved institutions and individuals, contributing to further building and supporting their leading position worldwide. In Greece, the WSET®, the CMS® & the W.S.P.C.® are managed by the first Master of Wine in Southern Europe, Mr. Konstantinos Lazarakis MW.

THE WINE & SPIRITS PROFESSIONAL CENTRE (W.S.P.C.®) was founded in 2004 with the aim of acquiring impeccable and accredited training in wines and spirits, geared to professionals working in the markets of wine, spirits , tourism , catering and cruise companies, or for those wishing to enter these markets. Through the increase of knowledge of the market of wines and spirits, the W.S.P.C.® aims to continually improve the quality of consumer products and services provided by individuals and businesses in all sectors.

THE WSET® & CMS® programmes ensure excellent professional training for all areas of commerce. The structure and the course material at all levels of study as well as the knowledge base they provide, means that following the WSET® programme will result in acquiring a leading professional and educational qualification. It is worth mentioning that the Institute of Masters of Wine recognises the WSET® DIPLOMA / 4th Level Studies degree as a prerequisite for achieving the top professional educational qualification in the world in the field of wines and spirits, the Master of Wine carrying the universally recognised and unique initials of ‘MW’.

IN W.S.P.C.® regarding the training material of all its educational programs follows the philosophy of “think Global act Local”. According to this philosophy, the model of overseas studies should always demonstrate respect and assimilation of the local culture and markets. Thus, while fully adopting the syllabus of WSET® London, we have also incorporated teaching about the vineyards of the respective country. Therefore, our students not only acquire knowledge of world wine scene which will give them a professional competence recognized throughout the world, but they will also acquire knowledge of the vineyards essential for them to operate within the domestic market as well as in exports.

W.S.P.C.® in Greece. The Place to Study Wine

The W.S.P.C.® is a Certified Educational Organization under the auspices of the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Professional Orientation (E.O.P.P.E.P.) and in exclusive co-operation with: the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET®) & the Court of Master Sommeliers (MS) based in the UK, which offers opportunities for a professional curriculum with qualifications and titles that are globally valid and universally recognised.

THE W.S.P.C.® is one of the few centres of WSET® globally to receive the distinction “Wine Educator of The Year Award”. The distinction is awarded each year in the Guildhall in London, to educational centres which stand out for the performance of their students, but also for the fact that they show dedication and innovation in education.
