Where’s The Challenge?
• 60% of all SAP have peak operations – ERP runs, HR salary calculations, month end closure
• 78% of all SAP face continuous
changes in their landscape – Rollouts, functional extensions, release changes, process
changes
• SAP Sprawl – 1 SAP database production
– 3 to 5 non-production
• Companies grows, shrinks, splits &
mergers – More Advance & Complex Architectures
• Downtime is costly

Alert Automation – Why?
Your system is configured to trigger alerts when
thresholds are not met or the system / interface is
down….…
You have achieved Alerting!
Now what??
What are the actions to be taken?
What additional information is required?
What other influences could be the cause?
Is the Alert Meaningful?

Automation Activities
You define the level of automation…
Actions
Digitizing Run-book Steps in Processes
No missed steps with standardization
Multiple activities can be performed in parallel
Actions across system boundaries
Event correlation for complex scenarios
Information and Documentation
Automation summary for each process
Auditable record of activities
Gather and document related information

Automation Steps: SAP IT Process Automation by Cisco
Step Activity
Complete End to End Alert Based Automation
1
SAP Solution Manager Target is defined with a configured polling time
Workflows that match the alert parameters (Alert/ Monitored system/
etc) are triggered
3
Automation summary is returned and updated in the Alert Comments
Alert is either Confirmed ( Status: Closed) or Updated (Status: In
Process)
2
Each Workflow Triggered may either:
• Perform the necessary actions and review success/ failure
• Gather additional information for the operator
• Correlate events, preventing further action for repeated alerts
