Product OverviewVarious areas of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.3 (SAP NetWeaver PI 7.3) have been considerably improved to ensure existing and create new customers' benefits from a variety of new capabilities. Key enhancements include:  

Design and GovernanceUser-experience: The main user productivity innovations in the Enterprise Service Repository (ESR) with SAP NetWeaver PI 7.3 comprise of SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio-based Eclipse editors for creating and editing service interface and data types. The aim is to help customers shorten time-to-value by increasing their user efficiency and ease overall project implementations respectively. Governance workflows: As the adoption of SOA in the organization increases, the need for governed SOA design grows to safeguard the SOA deployment. SAP NetWeaver PI 7.3 provides customizable lifecycle status of SOA assets by enabling automated governance of workflows across the assets' lifecycle. Open, standards-based APIs can be used to integrate and orchestrate governance workflows via SAP NetWeaver BPM to facilitate collaboration across the organization. Subscription-based notification mechanisms support the timely distribution of information to all parties in the process governing the lifecycle of individual SOA assets. Notifications can be sent on multiple events and across different channels. A choice of targeted UIs equips users with technical and business governance roles for a low-touch and efficient collaboration throughout SOA governance flows.  Extensible meta-model of SOA assets: The extensibility of meta-models allows clients to customize the semantics and behavior of repository assets to adapt them to the company's own SOA governance roles, organizational structures, and practices.

Java-only stand-alone installation option for SAP NetWeaver PI 7.3 With the release of SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1, SAP introduced the Advanced Adapter Engine (AAE) to enable message processing within the Java stack only. With SAP NetWeaver PI 7.3 the AAE is made available as Java only deployment option called Advanced Adapter Engine Extended (AAE) - including ESR and Integration Directory as well. The first complete Java-only stand-alone installation option provides the possibility to considerably lower down footprint, energy consumption, installation times, as well as hardware requirements.

Technical Operations & MonitoringThe capabilities for central monitoring with SAP NetWeaver PI are offered through the specific PI workcenter in SAP Solution Manager. Going forward, SAP Solution Manager will be the recommended platform and tooling for central monitoring of complex, distributed, multi-domain PI landscapes.
