As August marches on, Sapphire Resorts Group knows that more and more people are trying to fit in a last-minute vacation. Las Vegas a prime choice for such trips because of the incredible availability of accommodations, daily entertainment and beautiful weather.

When staying at a resort in Las Vegas, the pool is one of the most popular destinations. Though summer may be winding down, the desert sun in Sin City is still very hot. That’s why Sapphire Resorts Group has put together this list of how to stay safe while lounging poolside.

Bring and wear plenty of sunscreen: It may seem obvious, but many people forget to bring sunscreen with them during their Las Vegas vacation. Thankfully, many stores and gift shops carry a variety of sprays and creams. Sapphire Resorts Group says that while your upper body is of course an important spot to cover, don’t forget to also put some on your legs and feet, especially if you are just lounging poolside. For kids, the sprays may seem easier, but you can always ensure full coverage with the creams.

Drink plenty of water: While vacationing in Las Vegas, a lot of adults pass the time enjoying a wide variety of fruity cocktails and beers. However, these drinks can actually dehydrate you even more. Add to that all of the sugar in those umbrella-covered drinks and you are lucky if a bad hangover is all you face later in the day. Sapphire Resorts Group recommends that at the very least you drink one glass of water for every alcohol beverage.

Wear hats and sunglasses: Nobody wants to rub or spray sunblock on the hair. Wearing a hat can save your scalp from sunburn, and if it has a brim it can help protect your face and eyes. Speaking of the eyes, bring a pair (or two) of sunglasses with UV protection. The sunlight reflecting from the pool water can be searing.
