After 4 years of construction, the golden gate bridge was completed at a cost of $35 million, and was opened to traffic on May 28, 1937 at noon.

Brooklyn bridge is the oldest suspension bridge is in the U.S.

They both (the Brooklyn and the Golden Gate Bridge) were very dangerous when being built.

Both had huge opening celebrations. Brooklyn use to have the longest span. Over 1,200 people have commited suicide

on the golden gate bridge since 1939. Only 40 have commited suicide on the

brooklyn

THE STEPS OF BUILDING THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

The people voted weather or not to build the bridge.

Work on the bridge began on January 5, 1933. 

The south pier had to be built 1,100 feet from land in water 65 feet deep

Finished Pier, January 15, 1935 At each end of the bridge an

anchorage was built to receive the two cables.

STEPS CONTINUED

The first concrete of the bridge was poured January 19, 1937.

Just three months before opening day, a scaffold beneath the roadway broke loose, ripping through the net, making it fall into the water.
