ART DIRECTORAs the Art Director of META 2013 the New Media Exhibition, my responsibilities included developing and ensuring a consistent brand throughout the event. I was solely in charge of creating the logo and the colour palette, as well as designing the website and any digital or print promotional materials. I also led the Creative Team which included a graphic designer, web developer and the interface team of three. We worked closely with the rest of the curatorial team of fourteen over the course of eight months to ensure a successful art show. I learned a lot about printing, teamwork and leadership. We were also required to communicate with businesses and professional artists which has educated me in the nuances of professionalism in this industry.

OUR VISION

OUR LOGO

META 2013 is an exhibition that showcases the artwork of fourth year New Media students. We use technology to create innovative works that redefine the way you think about art. We push the limits of interactivity, connectivity and image-making. We understand that people provide the connection between art and technology. What we do today will influence the way you live tomorrow.

The blocky structure of our logo illustrates how New Media plays a major role as the building blocks of this digital age. The way it is turned breaking into a deeper plane of space represents motion and movement forward, similar to the way we are progressing towards our careers and aspirations. 2013 is written in pixels to represent the familiar 8-bit pixel generation in which most of us grew up in and would often incorporate into our projects.

11 - Rachel Brown, Sola StationThe Sola Station is a test site created to determine who might be permitted into an apocalypse shelter built by society’s highest class, the residents of District 1. Test questions consider each applicant’s involvement with social media and their level of addiction to technology.

10 - Samar Hejazi, The Johnson’sThe Johnson’s is a time-based installation that combines sculpture and holograms, and uses juxtaposition to explore the relation of physical and nonphysical realities.

MARKETING AND SPONSORSHIP LEADAs the Marketing and Sponsorship Lead of the Ryerson Orientation Team, my main responsibilities were: the orientation logo, branding package, organizing the t-shirt program, the maintenance of the website, execution of sponsorships which included sponsorship packages, door-to-door, emails and phone calls and marketing the event through print material and social media. The Orientation Team has helped me improve my ability to multi-task as well as my time and resource management. We branded, marketed, fund raised, recruited over one hundred volunteers and created a whole week’s worth of events in just four months.

CREATIVE ASSISTANTThroughout my four years of university at Ryerson, I was involved in several student groups as the creative assistant or graphic designer. I was an active member of SIFE Ryerson where I attended weekly marketing meetings and contributed to marketing strategies. During my time at SIFE I created several promotional posters as well as a giant novelty check. I was also involved in the student group Women In Leadership. I assisted with the creation of the logo and other promotional materials. I was also commissioned by Maximum Exposure the Art Exhibition to create a catalog and wall labels for their gallery. During my fourth year, several classmates and I created a fake television show to promote as a project. I was in charge of creating the logo and other promotional materials.

RYERSON WOMEN IN LEADERSHIPRyerson Women in Leadership (RWIL) is a student group lead by undergraduate students within the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) at Ryerson University that focuses on mentoring young, female professionals. We are committed to connecting a network of influential women, and women in leadership in their respective fields to Ryerson University students, as well as streamlining all undergraduate women-affiliated groups within the TRSM.

We seek to gather the women in leadership for discussion at our annual conference held in the second semester of the school year. Our mission is to serve as a platform for female leaders to mentor, and share their experiences, wisdom, and successes to help students and each other solve business problems, and power conflicts within their organizations for actionable results.
