Pastor Heather joins us from the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Camillus, NY (Syra- cuse area). She is married with two children, a daughter in college and a son in high school. Each summer, over 4,000 inner-city children visit sub- urban, rural and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada through The Fresh Air Fund’s Volunteer Host Family Program.The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Fresh Air children are boys and girls, from six to 18 years old, who live in New York City. Children on first-time visits are six to 12 years old and stay for one or two weeks. Chil- dren who are reinvited by host families may continue with The Fresh Air Fund through age 18 and can enjoy extended trips. Dr. Wyman will reveal many of the clandes-tine sources, methods and the professional trade craft that Ms. Van Lew employed while accomplishing her patriotic and dangerous mission as spymaster in the Confederate capital. WilliaM traCySARATOGA SPRINGS - Knights of Columbus Council 246 will host a benefit at 50 Pine Road in Saratoga Springs from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 10 to support an alcoholism treatment facility in South America that was founded by Ballston Spa native Rev. William Tracy. Tracy, who gradu-ated from Ballston Spa High School in 1946 and celebrated his first Mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in the village in 1955, established the New Life Community – or Associacao Communidad Vida Nova – in Curitiba, Brazil in the early 1980s after receiving treatment for his own ad-diction to alcohol. The facility has since assisted more than 1,000 individuals, including hundreds of priests, seminar-ians and nuns. Tickets to the August 10 benefit are $15 each and may be purchased at the door or after Masses at local Roman Catholic churches, including St. Mary’s in Ballston Spa. The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program can provide monetary relief as well as extensive case management for veteran families that are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming home-less. Temporary financial assistance is available for rental assistance, utilities fees, security deposit, moving costs, emergency supplies, child care and transportation. Case management and referral services include health care, daily living activities, financial planning, transportation, in-come support and legal assistance. The goal of the SSVF program is to promote housing stability among very low income Veteran families who reside in or are transition-ing to permanent housing in the following New York State counties; Washington, Warren, Saratoga, Schenectady, Montgomery, Fulton and Schoharie.
