Parameter for Saving Weight ValuesThe weight on the platform is saved as areference when the platform has stabilized.“Stability" is defined as the point at which the fluctuation of a measured valuelies within a defined tolerance range. The narrower the tolerance range, themore stable the platform is at stability. In Setup, under:Application 1:Counting: Save wt.,you can define whether the value is savedwhen “standard stability" is reached, oronly at “increased stability" (narrower tolerance range). If you selectIncreased stability, thevalued saved for average piece weight willbe more accurate and the results morereproducible, but the response time of theweighing instrument might be longer.
Accuracy of Average Piece WeightCalculationThe resolution applied for calculating the reference weight is defined in Setupunder:Application 1:Counting: APW calcul. The resolution for calculating the averagepiece weight is increased if “+1 decimalplace", “+2 decimal places" or “With internal resolution" is selected. With the“+1 decimal place" setting, the net value is determined to one additional decimalplace (i.e., display accuracy x 10); the “+2 decimal places" increases displayaccuracy + 100, and so on up to the maximum resolution available.
Minimum LoadThe minimum load required for initialization of the weighing platformis configured in Setup under:Application 1:Counting: MinL.InitOnce the limit is exceeded by the load, initialization can begin. If the load on the platform is too light, the following will occur when you try to save a reference value:
– The error code inf 29 is displayed– A warning signal is emitted
(double-beep)– The weighing platform is not initialized– The preset reference sample quantity
is saved
The minimum load required for auto-matic taring of the container weight on the platform (first weight) is configured in Setup under:Application parameters:MinL.Autotar
You can choose from the following 10 levels for this setting:
1 digit2 digits5 digits10 digits20 digits50 digits100 digits200 digits500 digits1000 digits
The “digits" here refer to the scaleintervals in the connected weighingplatform. If the interval of the connected weighing platform is 1 g, for example, and 1000 digits arerequired, you must place at least 1000 g (=1000 intervals =1000 digits)on the weighing platform for initiali-zation.
9
Average Piece Weight UpdatingIn Setup, under:Application 1:Counting: APW updateyou can define whether or not the average piece weight is updated auto-matically during weighing. The averagepiece weight is updated automaticallyonly when the following 6 criteria are met:
1. The Automatic setting is selected for average piece weight updating inthe Setup menu
2. The current piece count exceeds theoriginal piece count by at least two
3. The current piece count is less thantwice the original piece count (does notapply for the first updating operation if the piece count is entered using the keypad or a bar code scanner)
4. The current piece count is less than1000
5. The internally calculated piece count(such as 17.24 pcs) differs by less than ± 0.3 pcs from the nearest wholenumber (in this example: 17).
6. The weighing platform is stable inaccordance with the parameter definedfor saving weights.
If automatic average piece weightupdating is selected in Setup and thepiece count (pcs) is displayed, theAuto symbol is displayed below thebar graph. If the average piece weighthas been updated since you beganweighing, the text line shows the “optimized" code: (opt.). During an updating operation, 0pt and the updated piece count are displayedbriefly in the measured value line.
An acoustic signal indicates the completion of reference updating. The new average piece weight and reference sample quantity aresaved.

Counting with Two WeighingPlatformsYou can use two weighing instrumentssimultaneously with the Countingapplication. When using two platforms, you can choose from the followingoperating modes:
– Counting with two equivalent weighingplatforms
– Counting with one reference weighinginstrument and one counting platform
Counting with Two EquivalentWeighing PlatformsUse this mode to count different types of sample material with differentweights. For example, count the lighter-weight pieces on one platformand the heavier pieces on another. You can define which of the two platforms is active when the Combics isswitched on. This is defined in Setup, under:Device: Operat.: Main scaleThis is the first platform active whenyou switch on the Combics, regardlessof the setting for automatic initiali-zation of the Counting application.
Counting with One Reference WeighingInstrument and One Counting PlatformIn this mode, a high resolution weighing instrument with a relativelylow maximum capacity is used as a reference weighing instrument. Theother platform is used for countinglarge amounts, and has a high capacitywith a relatively low resolution. This allows you to both determine the average piece weight with high resolution; i.e., very precisely, and tocount large amounts of parts, withoutrequiring an expensive high-resolution,high-capacity weighing platform. The system can be configured to switchautomatically to the reference instru-ment for initialization (the measuredvalue line shows Ref). Following initialization, you can switch to thecounting platform. The definition of one weighing instrument as a reference instrument is configured in Setup, under:Application 1:Counting:Ref.wt.scale
If automatic average piece weightupdating is enabled, the update is performed on the active platform; in other words, the system does notautomatically switch to the referenceinstrument.

To determine the weight of a samplerelative to a reference weight, you needto define the reference weight value. There are three ways to enter this valuein the application program:
– Calculation:– Place the reference quantity (defined
by the reference percentage) on the connected weighing platformand press the Start or p= softkey to initialize the application.
– Place any amount of the samplematerial on the connected weighingplatform, enter the reference percentage through the keypad, and press the pRef soft key to initialize the application.
How the reference weight is calculateddepends on the application setting thatdefines “Accuracy for saving weights."The value is either rounded off inaccordance with the display resolution,or saved with 10-fold or 100-foldincreased resolution, or with the maximum internal resolution of theweighing platform.
– By entering the reference weight for100% using the keypad and pressingthe Wxx% soft key to initialize theapplication.
– By using a bar code scanner
The initial application values remainvalid until deleted by pressing the c key or until overwritten by newvalues. They also remain saved afteryou switch off the Combics.

Parameter for Saving Weight ValuesThe reference weight is saved when the platform has stabilized. “Stability" isdefined as the point at which fluctuationof a measured value lies within a definedtolerance range. The narrower the toler-ance range, the more stable the platform is at stability. In Setup, under: Application 1:Wgh in Pct: Save weight, you can define whether the value is savedwhen “standard stability" is reached, oronly at “increased stability" (narrower tolerance range). If you selectincreased stability, the reference weight saved will be more accurate and the results more reproducible, but the response time of the weighinginstrument might be longer.
Accuracy of Reference WeightCalculationThe resolution applied for calculating thereference weight is defined in Setup under:Application 1: Wgh inPct: Acc.save wts.The resolution for calculating the averagepiece weight is increased if “+1 decimalplace", “+2 decimal places" or “With internal resolution" is selected. With the“+1 decimal place" setting, the net value isdetermined to one additional decimal place(i.e., display accuracy + 10); “+2 decimalplaces" increases display accuracy + 100,and so on up to the maximum resolutionavailable.
Display of ResultsWith the Weighing in Percent application, the result can be displayed as a remainderor loss. Configure in Setup under:Application 1: Wgh in Pct: Display ofcalculated value
Equations:Residue= (current weight –
100% weight) / * 100
Loss= (current weight – 100% weight) / 100% weight * 100
Minimum LoadThe minimum load required for initialization of the weighing platformis configured in Setup under:Application 1: Wgh in Pct: MinL.Init
Once the limit is exceeded by the load, initialization can begin. If the load istoo light, the following will occur whenyou try to save a value:
– The error code inf 29 is displayed– A warning signal is emitted
(double-beep)– The weighing platform is not initialized– The preset reference percentage is saved
If the interval of the connected weighing platform is 1 g, for example, and 1000 digits arerequired, you must place at least 1000 g(=1000 intervals =1000 digits) on theweighing platform for initialization.
23
Weighing in Percent with Two Weighing PlatformsYou can use two weighing platformssimultaneously with the Weighing in Percent application. When using two platforms, you can choose from the following operating modes:
– Weighing in Percent with two equi-valent weighing platforms
– Weighing in Percent with one referenceweighing instrument and one weighingplatform
Weighing in Percent with Two Equivalent Weighing PlatformsUse this mode to measure differenttypes of sample material with differentweights. For example, measure thelighter-weight samples on one platformand the heavier samples on another. You can define which of the two platforms is active when the Combics isswitched on. This is defined in Setup, under:Device: Operat.: Main scaleThis is the first platform active whenyou switch on the Combics, regardlessof the setting for automatic initiali-zation of the Weighing in Percentapplication.
Weighing in Percent with OneReference Weighing Instrument andOne Measuring PlatformIn this mode, a high resolution weighing instrument with a relativelylow maximum capacity is used as a reference weighing instrument. The measuring platform has a highcapacity, but a relatively low resolution. This allows you to both determine thereference weight with high resolution;i.e., very precisely, and to measure largesamples, without requiring an expensivehigh-resolution, high-capacity weighingplatform. The system can be configured to switch automatically to the referenceinstrument for initialization (the measured value line shows Ref).Following initialization, the platformfor larger amounts is automatically activated. The definition of one weighing instrument as a reference instrument isconfigured in Setup, under:Application 1: Wgh in Pct:Ref.wt.scale

The “digits" here refer to the scale intervalsin the connected weighing platform. If the interval of the connected platform is 1 g, for example, and 1000 digits arerequired, you must place at least 1000 g(=1000 intervals =1000 digits) on theweighing platform for autotaring (onlywith the “Autotare first weight" optionselected).
PrintoutIn Setup, under:Application 3:Totalizing: Printoutyou can configure whether a printout is generated manually, by pressing p, or automatically when a weight value is saved in the totalizing memory. If you select Off for this setting, print-outs can be generated only manually, by pressing p (individual printout). If the Print one component on request option is selected, the full printoutis generated every time the “Print" key ispressed.
The total data record is printed when you clear the totalizing memory (by pressing the c key).

Net-total Formulation with Two Weighing PlatformsThis mode is used for weighing largeand small components at the sametime.
In this mode, you can toggle from the small-component instrument to thelarge-component instrument duringmeasurement. Once you toggle to thelarge-component instrument, the (and ) keys are available until a com-ponent value is saved. For example, youcan take a partially-filled containerfrom the small-component instrumentand tare it on the large componentinstrument.
The value in component memory on the small-component instrument is transferred to the large-componentinstrument and the weight unit is con-verted, if necessary. The Componentand Additive display modes are bothavailable on the large-componentinstrument.
The value read by the active instrumentis saved in component memory. Thedisplayed result is accurately calculatedin the active weight unit.
When you press c to stop a measure-ment series, the tare memories for both instruments are cleared, unless thelarge-component platform is an SBIinstrument, in which case the platformis only tared.
