Do Perfect SAT Scores Guarantee Admission?

• Short Answer: NO

• There are a slew of other factors such as your school GPA, science GPA, the type and difficulty of courses you took, personal statements, essays, awards, accomplishments, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, and great interviews.

What Is A Good Score?

• Well, to determine that, we'd have to look at what score the majority of students who do get accepted to these schools have. So in the comparison below, I've outlined what the 25th - 75th percentile of SAT/ACT scores are for accepted students in fall of 2009 (data and charts obtained from National Center for Education Statistics).

25th and 75th Percentile SAT Scores for Students Who Were Accepted

Summary

• For most colleges, an average score with a decent portfolio will make you competitive

• For Ivy League Colleges the acceptance process is highly selective and highly competitive, requiring not only stellar SAT scores but a stellar portfolio as well

• SAT scores are not the 'end all' or 'be all' of college apps, but they are still very important in the selection process
