Uma Datt, Hyderabad.

In a small village lived a kind man with his family. He was religious and large hearted.

Though financially he was just a middle class person, he always helped people in his own way.

One day, he attended a discourse on ‘Bhagavatham’ held in a nearby temple. Duringthe discourse the preacher spoke on the significance of Annadanam (feeding the poor andhungry) He said that it is the best of all charities and God bestows his choicest blessings onthose who serve the hungry. Very much inspired by the profound talk, the kind man at that verymoment took an oath to feed at least one hungry stomach everyday during lunch time.

From that day onwards, he served lunch to one person everyday. Taking advantage of this situation, a lazy man from the neighbourhood started to visit the young mans house everydayand feasted on the free lunch. Few days went by. One day, the host’s wife noticing the clevernessof the lazy man asked her husband to stop feeding him as he was taking undue advantage of

their generosity. It is good to feed the poor but it is a sin to serve the lazy and encourage theirlaziness. The husband realized his mistake. But since he vowed not to turn down anybody whocame to him for help, he hatched a plan along with his wife to turn away the unwanted guest.

The plan was that as soon as the lazy guest entered their house both husband and wifewould start a fake fight and start abusing and hitting each other. Seeing the couple quarrelling sovehemently and with no hope of lunch being served in this situation, the guest would himself goaway.

The next day, no sooner the lazy man arrived, the couple started fighting aggressively.As expected the guest waited for sometime and then left silently. The couple’s joy knew nobounds. Their plan was a success! The wife said excitedly, “Ha! I acted so well as if I reallyabused you.” The husband replied, “Hey! My acting was equally good. I acted as if I really hityou.” Suddenly they heard a voice, “Ha! Ha! I think I am the best actor. I acted as if I reallyleft.” To the couple’s utter disappointment and dismay, the clever guest was back.

A seeker on the spiritual path makes a lot of effort to overcome his negative qualitiesand tendencies. Almost all his spiritual practices are aimed at controlling the mind. At times, heseems to succeed in his endeavors. But if out of over confidence the seeker slackens his disciplineand neglects his spiritual practice, the clever cunning mind will once again get back to its old evil

ways. So be aware!With discipline and dedication one should keep the lamp of Awareness always

glowing and not allow the darkness of ignorance enter one’s mind

You will be transformed as a rock is transformed by the sculptor into an idol,

deserving the worship of generations of sincere men and women. In the process you

will have to bear many a hammer stroke and chisel-wound, for He is the sculptor.

Meaning:: It is very easy to talk than to put it in to practice and work accordingly

even to Brahma or to His Grandfather. It is always better to do work rather

than to talk. Whatever Bh Sri Sathya Sai Baba said is TRUTH.

Story:: Value: Right Action.

Vinoba bhave, follower of Mahatma Gandhi started “bhudaana udyamam

(donating excess of land to the poor) and was going from village to village. In

one of his pada yathras he and his followers had to make a night halt in one of

the villages. He noticed that the village was dirty and stinking with garbage as

the villagers were not bothered about the cleanliness. Before going to bed,

Vinobhaji asked his followers to attend to the sanitation work of the village in

the morning. Next morning when Vinobhaji got up and saw that the village was

as it was before his visit and his followers did not carry out his instructions.

Immediately, he took a broom and started sweeping the lanes. Suddenly every

one joined the cleaning work. Bh.Sri Sathya Sai Baba says “First Be, then doand then Tell” (practice before preaching)

We can also tell the story of Rama Krishna Paramahamsa, who restricted

himself from eating of sweets before he could say to a child brought to him by

his grand mother.

A Primary School teacher asks her pupils to write an essay "what wish

do you want from God?" At the end of the day, the teacher collected all the

essays given by her pupils. She takes them to her house, Sats and markingthem. while marking the essays, the teacher sees a strange essay written by one

of her pupils. That essay made her very emotional. Her husband came and sat

beside her and saw her crying. The husband asked her wife "What happened?"

She answered "Read this. It is one of my pupil's essay." She gave the

paper and he started reading.

"Oh God, Make me into a Television. I want to live like the TV in my

house. In my house, the TV is very valuable. All of my family members sitaround it. They are very interested in it. When the TV is talking, my parents

listen to it happily and calmly. They dont shout at the TV. They dont quarrel

with the TV. They dont slap at the TV. So I want to become a TV.

The TV is the center of attraction in my house. I want to receive the

same special care that the TV receives from my parents. Even when it is not

working, the TV has a lot of value. When my dad and mom come home,

immediately they sit in front of the TV, switch on it and spend hours. The TV

is stealing the time of my dad and my mom. If I become a TV, they will spend

their time with me.

While watching the TV, my parents laugh a lot and they smile many

times. But I want my parents should laugh and smile with me. So please make

me into a TV. .

And last but not least, If I become a TV, surely I can make my parentshappy and entertain them. Lord I don't ask you anything. I just want to live like

a TV. Please make me into a TV."

The husband completed reading the essay. He said "My God, poor kid.

He feels loneliness. He did not receive enough love and care from his parents.

His parents are horrible".

Story of Bhgavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has no ending.

Every Avatar has a Mission. In 1958, Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

revealed that His Mission would unfold itself in stages. The first sixteen years

would be dominated by contact with individuals. Following this, attention

would be given to groups. In the next phase, spiritual exhortation would be

the dominant feature, after which service to humanity at large would become

the principal focus.

Baba moves, lives, and acts like ordinary mortals do but His extra-

ordinary Love (Prema), if noticed, would immediately reveal that He is nothing

short of Divinity personified. Now more than two hundred countres are doing

Sai Service activities and leading the people to move on Sai's path and taking

Swamy's saying love all and serve all as their main goal.

Significance of the new cover of our Balavikas magazine

The cover page reflects the message of Satya sai,s unique educare system

which gives value based wholistic education to children and transforms them into

wonderful beings.

The book represents knowledge and education ie educare.The flower on the

book symbolises blossoming of little young hearts (children) and the butterfly

symbolises transformation. Bal Vikas is the main instrument in imparting these val-

ues and our magazine supports it. A child following this value based education is

blessed by swami.
