How the week worksFor the Monday –Thursday of SATs week, we will expect ALL children to be at school at 8am.

This is to allow children to have some time to relax and have a FREE breakfast at school.

No more levelsAs you know, nationally there are no more levels given as part of the SATs.

Your child will receive a point score based on their papers as well as being told if they have achieved the expected standard.

No more levels

In July, you will receive a letter with this table on it. The raw score is the number of marks your child achieved in the SATs tests (for reading, GPS and maths). A scaled score of 100 or above represents attainment at the expected level in the tests.

The codes indicate whether your child has met the expected standard in the tests and teacher assessment. AS – achieved expected standard NS – did not achieve expected standard

Scaled Score: anything below 100 WTS 100-109 EXS 110 above GDS

Spelling Punctuation and Grammar

1 paper for grammar and punctuation and 1 for spelling.

Spellings – children to continue practising through homework.

Grammar – coverage across the curriculum, and expectations for Year 6 children. Answers need

to be precise, eg spelling and punctuation.

ReadingThe Reading paper will take place on Tuesday 12th May. Children have one hour to complete the test; this involves reading three texts (one of approx. 800 words, two of 300 words each) and answering questions. The questions are of a

variety of types:- Themes and conventions (approx. 10%)- Comprehension (20-40%)- Making inferences (20-40%)- Language for effect (10-20%)

WritingWriting is not a test that happens in the SATs week.

Every half term we do one or two writing assessments which (along with writing across the curriculum) informs your child’s writing attainment.However, every piece of writing contributes to their end of year writing attainment.

Practice WeeksTo help us measure the progress of your children and to help them get used to the SATs process, we have practice weeks (dates TBC).

BoostersIn the run up to SATS your child might be offered the opportunity to boost their learning at lunch time or after school.

Some children will also be sponsored by other adults within the school. This is a non-timetabled arrangement to help the child.
