Immerse yourself in the music, entertainment, and attractions of the night that draw Luna, the moon fairy, to this enchanted Rock Garden. Luna spends her days sleeping amongst the clouds and as nighttime falls, she awakens to bring the moon to the sky. Luna is a playful fairy and playing tricks is something she loves to do. Her most well-known trick is hiding pieces of the moon so only a sliver of if hangs in the sky amid the stars.

Enjoy the Land of Luna as you explore her world and discover the magic of her favourite tricks and treasures. Make sure to keep your eyes open for flashes of silver, as the sun sets she just might make an appearance.

children’S activitieS 6 to 8:45 p.m.

Starry Stones — Capture your favourite constellation on a starry stone to attract Luna’s night time friends. The stars are important to Luna because they illuminate the moons of the galaxy — just like the sun lights up Earth’s moon!

Mystical Markings — Getting a mystical marking can attract enchanted creatures. Invite Luna and some of her friends to visit you by choosing a special marking that they will recognize.

pixie pictures — Remember your special evening in the Land of Luna by capturing your memories in the photo booth. See if you can spot some of Luna’s fairy friends in the backdrop!

Magical Seed bar — Collect the seeds of Luna’s most adored local plants. Take them home with you and plant them to attract Luna and her enchanted friends!

Message from event chair

It has been my pleasure to work with Royal Botanical Gardens over the past year to

present you with two inspiring events that celebrate the rejuvenated David Braley

& Nancy Gordon Rock Garden. Both The Land of Luna and Luna mark spring’s

return to this beloved garden that has touched so many hearts for over 80 years.

when I first moved to this area, RBG and Rock Garden helped me to deepen both

my appreciation for the natural world and connections to this great community. It

is because of these connections that I have been so thrilled to help organize and

plan these two events for you. Thank you for joining me in The Land of Luna. Enjoy

a drink, feast on some culinary delights, and prepare to be amazed by the iconic

Rock Garden coming to life through an incredible light show. Tonight will without a

doubt, be an evening to remember.

Local businessman David Braley and his wife, Nancy Gordon, believe strongly in giving back to the community where they have lived for almost their entire lives.

Both David and Nancy were raised in the westdale area of Hamilton, and enjoyed the Children’s Garden at Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) at a young age. Throughout their lives, RBG continued to hold a special place in their hearts, with David supporting the Gardens both personally and through his business. Nancy dedicated 18 years to The auxiliary of RBG as a volunteer, and served two of those years as president.

as the lead donors to your Rock Garden Memories Capital Campaign, David and Nancy have provided the vision, support and guidance needed to help RBG transform the old Rock Garden back to its original glory. Through their matching gift program, they were also successful in challenging the community to raise an additional $2 million dollars to support it.

David and Nancy feel very deeply about the role RBG has in the Hamilton community, not only today but for the youth of tomorrow. It is their hope that this beautiful landmark can influence others as it has influenced them throughout their lives.

In recognition of their generosity, RBG chose to rename the garden David Braley & Nancy Gordon Rock Garden.

It is our pleasure to welcome you to The Land of Luna, the grand opening celebration of the new David Braley & Nancy Gordon Rock Garden at Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG).

In august of 2013, construction began and it is hard to believe that we have completed the rejuvenation of this iconic garden. we are so excited to finally present our most famous, beloved garden in a brand new way and we are proud of the fact that we took special care to preserve its heritage and charm.

RBG’s mission is to dedicate our expertise in horticulture, conservation, science and education — together with our unique gardens, facilities and natural lands — to inspire and nurture society’s commitment to the environment. Like other public gardens around the world, we are embracing the changes needed to respond to the challenges of climate change.

The new Rock Garden reflects this forward-facing approach and is truly a garden for the 21st century, one that embraces sustainable trends in garden design and management while respecting the integrity of its heritage setting. we would have not have been able to make these changes without the generous support of donors.

For those who have visited the old Rock Garden in the past, I encourage you to take notice of these changes as you make your way through The Land of Luna, and if this is your first time visiting, then welcome to what will no doubt be an enchanting experience you will never forget.
