This chapter provides you with the information aboutsystem assembly procedures. While doing the installation,be careful in holding the components and follow theinstallation procedures.

Use a grounded wrist strap before handling computercomponents. Static electr ic ity may damage thecomponents.

Overview

Installation ScrewsThree types of screws are used in assembling the barebone:Screw type 1: Round-headed screw (M3)Screw type 2: Button-headed screw (6#32)Screw type 3: Hexagonal screw with washer (6#32)

Installation Tools

The built-in mainboard is designed for MSI® Saturn 900 / 945 Series only. Except themainboard, the built-in components of the barebone include ATX Power Supply andSystem Fan. In this chapter, we will show you how to install Optical Disk Drive(ODD),Card Reader(CR), Floppy Disk Drive(FDD), Hard Disk Drive(HDD), PCI Card and PCI-Express Card.

Cross type screwdriver , can be used to do most of theinstallation. Choose one with a magnetic head would be better.

Pliers, can be used as an auxiliary tool to connect some con-nectors or cables.

Forceps, can be used to pick up tiny screws or set up thejumpers.

Rubber gloves, can prevent yourself from being incised andsuffering the static charge.

Screw type 1: Round-headed screw (M3)

This screw is used to lock the ODD, CR or FDD (x16)

Screw type 2: Button-headed screw (6#32)

This screw is used to lock the HDD (x8)

Screw type 3: Hexagonal screw with washer (6#32)

This screw is used to lock the system covers and PCI expansionslots (x9)

Checking the ItemsBefore assembling the system, please check the items listed below for basic systemoperation. We highly suggest that the users should install retail box CPU heat sink orstandard CPU cooler.

Removing Covers

Pull the cover (right side) forward.

Remove the cover from system.

Unlock the two screws (screw type 3) onthe back panel with a screwdriver.

Pull the cover (left side) forward.

Remove the cover from system.

Again, unlock the two screws (screw type3) on the back panel with a screwdriver.

(Continue...)Pull these three hooks with the directionshown on the picture to release the frontpanel.

UpDown Down

Remove the front panel from system to re-lease all the driver bays.

After disassembly.

Installing Optical Disk Drive (ODD)Insert the ODD into the 5.25” driver bay.

Lock the two screws (screw type 1) to fixthe ODD.

Turn the system to the other side and lockthe other two screws (screw type 1).

Lock the two screws (screw type 1) to fixthe CR or FDD.

Turn the system to the other side and lockthe other two screws (screw type 1).

Insert the CR or FDD into the 3.5” driverbay.

Connect the cable.

Installing IDE Hard Disk Drvie (HDD)

Lock the two screws (screw type 2) to fixthe IDE HDD.

Turn the system to the other side and lockthe other two screws (screw type 2).

Insert the IDE HDD into the 3.5” driver bay.

Lock the two screws (screw type 2) to fixthe SATA HDD.

Turn the system to the other side and lockthe other two screws (screw type 2).

Insert the SATA HDD into the 3.5” driverbay.

Installing PCI CardUnlock the screw (screw type 3) on thelock bracket with a screwdriver.

Remove the lock bracket from back panelto release all the expansion slots.

Push to remove the metal cover to releasethe PCI slot.

Insert the PCI card vertically into the PCIslot.

Lock the screw (screw type 3) on the sup-port bracket.

Installing PCI Express CardUnlock the screw (screw type 3) on thesupport bracket and remove the metal coverto release the PCI express slot.

Insert the PCI express card vertically intothe PCI express slot.

Lock the screw (screw type 3) on the sup-port bracket.

Restore the lock bracket to back panel tofix all the expansion slots.

Lock the screw (screw type 3) on the lockbracket with a screwdriver.

Restoring CoversPush to remove the plastic cover on thefront panel for ODD with fingers carefully.

Push to remove the plastic cover on thefront panel for CR or FDD with f ingerscarefully.

Restore the front panel to system to fix allthe driver bays.

Restore the cover (left side) to system.

Lock the two screws (screw type 3) onthe back panel with a screwdriver.

Push the cover backward.
