Woes for Indians banks tocontinue in FY17: S&P

Global rating agency Standard andPoor’s today said Indian banking sectormight continue to face tough times overnext 12 months as their asset qualityand capitalsation under pressure. Theasset quality and capitalization of India’sbanking sector is likely to remain underpressure in due to tepid domestic in-dustrial activity, and subdued profitabil-ity and high leverage in some corporatesectors, S&P said in statement.

The stand-alone credit profiles andratings on some public sector bankc getlowered, given their weakening asset

quality and capitalisation. The non-performing loan ratios of Indian banks with highexposure to troubled sectors will continue to rise. The credit costs with a backlog ofprovisions will increase, said Amit Pandey, credit analyst with Standard & Poor’s. Thesefactors could strain the capitalization of banks with below-average profitability, particu-larly as capital demands are likely to soar as Basel-III norms get implemented. Ratingagency released report titled “Indian Banks Face An Uphill Road This Year”. S&P ex-pects loan growth in India’s banking sector to be 11-13% in fiscal 2017 (year beginningApril 1, 2016). The growth in retail loans will continue to outpace that in corporate loans,in line with the trend over the past two years. The profitability of Indian banks to declineover the next two to three quarters on recent cut in base lending rates, and their creditcosts are likely to remain high.

UK’s King’s College Hospital to set up facility in APKing’s College Hospital, one of the UK’s largest teaching hospitals, will soon set up a 1,000-bed

world-class medical facility in Andhra Pradesh’s new capital Amaravati, Chief Minister ChandrababuNaidu has announced. “The King’s College Hospital has agreed to set up a 1,000-bed hospital inAmaravati immediately and make it their headquarters as they plan to set up 11 hospitals in differentparts of India,” Naidu said here.

“They will manufacture the equipment necessary for the hospitals in India itself. Not only do theywant to set up a world-class hospital but promote Health Tourism in India. The foundation for the hospitalin Amaravati will be laid in the first week of June,” he said. A ‘Health City’ of 6,387.67 acres has beenplanned in the capital and land has been reserved throughout the city for healthcare infrastructure. Amedical academy, and research centres are planned in the capital, providing access to workforce.

“Leading institutions like AIIMS and the Indo-UK Institute of Health have already shown interest insetting up hospitals in the capital,” he said. The Chief Minister said his government has set up an officefor Amaravati in London.

Indian residential property to attract$1 billion investment

Residential property in India is expected to re-ceive $1 billion investment this year, given its at-tractive rate of returns averaging at a high of 20-22per cent per annum, an industry expert said.

“Private Equity funds in Indian real estate sec-tor has already raised USD 420 million in the firsttwo months of this year, compared to USD 520 mil-lion for the whole of last year,” said Rubi Arya, ex-ecutive vice chairman of the Mumbai-based Mile-stone Capital Advisors Ltd.

Mid-segment housing and affordable housing can take returns to as high as 20-22per cent per annum through hybrid investing, that is capital security plus equity upside, she said.

“We feel that with the Real Estate Bill mandate, availability of deals for Private Equityfirms will certainly go up,” she said, adding that the reforms in the real estate sector willalso help further accelerate fund raising and investment opportunities both for residen-tial and commercial sectors. “With such positive developments, the India story is grow-ing by leaps and bounds and it is just a matter of time when this sector begins its upwardjourney once again, albeit after a prolonged period of gloom,” she added.

Costs on real estate construction are seeing stability with fuel prices down, whichleaves developers with overall margins for positive growth.

“Investors can look forward to far higher transparency and ease of doing businesswith developers with the recently passed real estate bill. This has led to a lot of warmingup of Non Resident Indians (NRIs) and Foreign Direct Investments towards Indian realestate,” she noted.

The availability of foreign capital will naturally increase with the government permit-ting NRI investments into domestic Alternate Investment Funds.

The Real Estate Investment Trusts will soon see listings by developers and thuslifting the commercial reality market to a highly profitable investment climate, accordingto Arya.

Milestone manages USD 800 million or 25 million sq ft residential, warehousing, commercial and office spaces since it began operating as PE funding concern in 2008.

Antalya’s tourism sector eyes 10,000Indian weddings

Cnsidering that nearly 10,000 In-dian wedding ceremonies are heldabroad each year, tourism profession-als in Antalya aim to attract weddingtourists from India where nearly 10million wedding ceremonies are heldevery year and have a nearly $40billion share of the global weddingmarket. Tourism companies in Antalya

have focused on wedding tourism in an attempt to overcome the setback to the tourismsector caused by Russia, which started discouraging its citizens from visiting Turkey afterthe military jet downing incident last November. According to West Mediterranean Develop-ment Agency (BAKA) Secretary-General Mehmet Sýrrý Özen, the cost of all Indian wed-dings held abroad per year vary between $1 billion and $20 billion, adding that the Turkishtourism sector aims to hold at least 20 Indian weddings in Antalya a year. The agency alsoconducts focused studies regarding wedding tourism in India.

Wedding tourism has become increasingly popular for couples in Turkey and the worldin recent years. The major obstacle to wedding tourism in Antalya is that foreign airlinecompanies do not operate direct flights to the city. Organization consulting companies, whichhave been conducting research and development studies on the Indian market since 2013,introduced Antalya’s opportunities to many companies that present ideas about destinationweddings in the Far East, Sri Lanka and Dubai. As a result of these efforts, Indian companiesstarted introducing Antalya on their websites as a strong, new wedding destination, andinformed Indians about the city. As such, Indians have started thinking of Antalya as analternative wedding destination.
