In 1910, he set up a workshop in the village of Grindelwald in the Bernese Mountains.

On the premises pictured here, he began producing time-switches:-

• to use off-peak electricity • and to switch the street lighting on and off• the design and precision of which was acclaimed by the experts

Company history

• 1910 Workshop set up

• 1912 First consignment of time-switches

• 1919 Company re-locates to Basle with around 100 employees

• 1920 Converted into a joint-stock company

• 1925 Subsidiary company founded in Freiburg, Germany

• 1925/27 and 1934 Production facilities in Basle enlarged

• 1935 Approximately 520 employees

• 1948 Subsidiary company founded in St. Louis, France

• Further offices opened in Zurich, Geneva and Lausanne

• Agents in over 50 countries

• Developed into an international company by focussing on quality and know-how

• Sauter Group presently has roughly 1900 employees throughout Europe
