1 Important Information

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING

- The hole beside the power button on top side of the remote is a port for the built-in microphone and NOT a reset button. DO NOT insert any objects in this hole or damage to the remote could occur.

- The remote’s base is simply a charging station. Place the remote into its base to charge the battery whenever the battery level gets low.

- The remote is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

- The remote communicates with the Savant Pro System over Wi-Fi® (802.11 b/g/n - 2.4GHz/5.0GHz). See Appendix A: Network Requirements.

- Supports WPA and WPA2 security protocols.

- The remote does not have to be within line of sight of a device to control it.

- The remote is a multi-room remote. If the remote can communicate with the local Wi-Fi, it can control any device from any room/zone.

- The Remote receives software updates over the air (OTA). See the Remote Software Updates (OTA) section below.

- The Savant Pro System that the remote is associated with must have a user that is registered with the Savant cloud. If there is no registered user, the remote will default back to a local Savant User and will have limited functionality.

- The maximum number of remotes allowed in a system depends on the number of rooms supported by the Host. Ideally, a user can add a remote into every room in a Savant Pro System.

5 Installation

5.1 Install Remote 1. Place the remote and charging base on a surface that is flat, dry, well ventilated, and out of direct sunlight.

2. Plug the supplied power adapter into a 120 – 240V AC 50/60Hz surge protected outlet receptacle. 3. Plug the supplied power cord between the remote base and the power adapter from step 3 above.

4. Place remote into the charging base. Placing the remote onto the base turns on the remote and after a few seconds, the Savant logo will appear. Allow the remote to start-up into the Connect to Wi-Fi network window shown in step 1 below.

HELPFUL! If the remote doesn’t automatically power up from step 3 above, press and release the power button on the top of the remote. After about 5 seconds, the Savant logo will appear.

5.2 Add Remote to a Savant Pro System Follow the steps below to connect to the local Wi-Fi network and then to a Savant Pro System.

1. Select the BEGIN button. 2. In the screen that opens, select your local Wi-Fi network. 3. Enter the PASSWORD for the network selected.

4. Select NEXT when complete.

• Reset Wi-Fi Configuration – Select to clear any Wi-Fi credentials currently stored on the remote and reset the Wi-Fi radio.

• Select hidden Wi-Fi Button – Select to manually enter a network name (SSID) and password. In the screen that opens, enter the network name (SSID) of the local network and follow the prompts.

• Retry Scan Button –Select the Retry Scan button if the local wireless network is not initially listed. A rescan will typically locate the network.

TIP! The Level field presented in this screen is the RSSI value. Higher RSSI values indicates has a stronger Wi-Fi signal.

Example: A network with an RSSI of -58 is stronger than a network with an RSSI value of -77

8 Software Updates (OTA) Section 6 below describes the software update process.

8.1 Criteria for Download The Pro Remote Multi-Room can receive software updates only if the following criteria is met:

- The remote must be communicating with a Savant Pro System.

- A user must be signed in on the remote and that user must be registered with the Savant cloud. - The Remote must have at least 50% charge left on its rechargeable battery.

- The Host determines there is an updated version of software on the Savant cloud than what is running on the Remote.

If the criteria are met, the update process begins. To update, there are two pieces:

1. Software gets downloaded to remote. 2. Software gets installed onto remote.

8.2 Overview of Download and Install Process 1. To begin the process, one of the following needs to be achieved

to initiate a software update: a. A new version of software for the remote is loaded onto the

Savant cloud. During normal operation, the Host determines the updated version of software is available from the Savant cloud and initiates the download.

b. The da Vinci runtime software on the Host is updated. The da Vinci update now points to a newer version of remote software on the Savant Cloud and the software download to the remote is then started.

c. A new remote is added to the system and the version of software on the remote differs from the version of software on the Savant cloud and a download to the remote is started.

With the download process to the remote started, the process can be viewed using the System Status page of System Monitor. HELPFUL! The complete remote download, install, and reboot process takes about 5-10 minutes depending on network speeds. See Appendix B: System Monitor section below for more information.

8.3 Download and Install Remote Software The download of the remote software was started by one of the methods described in section 7.2 above. Follow the instructions below to install the software onto the remote.

1. At any time during the download of software to the remote, navigate to the About page ( > About) and select the RESUME UPDATE/UPDATE AVAILABLE button. Pressing this button opens a DOWNLOADING screen and tells the remote to install the software immediately after the download is complete.

2. Once the software is downloaded onto the remote, the remote automatically installs the updated software. See image below.

3. Once installed, the remote will reboot and finish the software install.

4. When finished, navigate to the ABOUT page ( > About). 5. The updated software (Version:) is listed on the ABOUT page

Additional Information: - The RESUME UPDATE button indicates there is software currently downloading or the software has already downloaded and is staged on the

remote. Pressing the RESUME UPDATE button ensures the following:

• If the software is downloaded on the remote, pressing the RESUME UPDATE button starts the installation process -OR- • If the software is downloading, pressing the RESUME UPDATE button during the download ensures the software install process starts once

the download process ends. - If the RESUME UPDATE button is NOT pressed during or after the software download, the remote automatically initiates the installation of the

software at 2:00 AM the next morning.

- The complete remote download, install, and reboot process takes about 5-10 minutes depending on the speed of the network.

Appendix A: Network Requirements Savant requires the use of business class/commercial grade network equipment throughout the network to ensure the reliability of communication between devices. These higher quality components also allow for more accurate troubleshooting when needed.

Connect all Savant devices to the same local area network (LAN) or subnet as the Host. Savant recommends not implementing any type of traffic or packet shaping in your network topology for the Savant devices as this may interfere with performance.

Network Configuration To ensure that the IP Address will not change due to a power outage, a static IP Address such as DHCP reservation should be configured. Savant recommends using DHCP reservation within the router. By using this method, static IP Addresses for all devices can be managed from a single UI avoiding the need to access devices individually.

Setting DHCP reservation varies from router to router. Refer to the documentation for the router to configure DHCP reservation.

Network Changes The Pro Remote Multi Room requires resetting network credentials after moving to a new network, changing routers, or if the IP Address range is changed in the current router.

Reset Wi-Fi Credentials Follow the instructions in section 7.1 Reset Wi-Fi to reset the Wi-Fi credentials on the remote.
