The 2012 Joining Together Conference will once again bring child abuse professionals together to identify and discuss issues and initiatives related to child abuse forensic investigation and clinical practice. The conference is pleased to feature sessions related to the latest research and best practices in forensic child abuse investigation and clinical practice. The conference is based on a model of multidisciplinary collaboration. NEW: The conference will feature the option of two pre-conference workshops (6 hours) on Sunday, May 6, 2012. Conference Presenters Victor Malarek is a media journalist on W-5 and was previously on the Fifth Estate. In 1997, he won a Gemini Award as Canada’s top broadcast journalist. He offers a perspective on his own childhood abuse and his professional research on global female exploitation. Cindy Blackstock, M.M., Ph.D. is the Executive Director, First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada. Her key interests include exploring and addressing the causes of disadvantage for Aboriginal children and families by promoting equitable and culturally based interventions. Peter Collins, MD, FRCPC is the Coordinator of the Forensic Psychiatry Unit, Behavioural Sciences and Analysis Services, Investigation and Support Bureau of the Ontario Provincial Police and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. Ailsa Craig, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She speaks on homophobia, heterosexism, and sexual diversity awareness. Dr. Evan Matshes, M.D. is the Assistant Chief Medical Examiner for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary, Alberta. He has published and lectured extensively in human anatomy and osteology, the neurosciences, and forensic pathology. And many, many more international experts in the field of child maltreatment.
