From the Principal’s Desk A wonderful day today for the school photos. Thank you to all the families who made sure their child was dressed in full winter uniform for the group and individual photos. School photos are a wonderful way to look back on your time in primary school and remember the great times you had as a child with your friends at school. Thank you to Mrs Nott for her wonderful organisation of photo day. This week we are concentrating on our school value of achievement and I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work that our school administration do every day and their fantastic attitude; particularly of our School Administration Manager, Mrs Bromage who has just spent the last two days with me doing some additional training in our new online budgeting tool and our new ordering system for NSW Public Schools. Mrs Bromage exemplifies this week’s value as she is continuing to learn and master our new online administration system and then is teaching and coaching our office staff in their work with the system. A job well done and being done well! This week I would also like to thank our school Chaplain Mrs Kristy Woolley who does a wonderful job each day she is in the school. Her kind and caring nature combines with her expertise in assisting children and families when they need it is very much appreciated. Her “Tuesday Toast and Talk” is a big hit with our students and many friendships have been formed that will hopefully bring a smile and a happy start to the day. Learning is moving forward at our school and halfway through the learning year now we have students writing significant pieces of prose and practising their literary skills in a number of ways. Our public speaking expertise is coming to the fore and our students are writing, speaking and debating in class as well as in competitions. Our maths, science and music skills are being honed and I am pleased to see that students are showing real enjoyment in achieving their learning goals in these areas. Our school reports are being revised and will be printed in the coming week ready to come home in Week 10. Our teachers spent a long time working out of hours to ensure that our reporting to parents is accurate and that our reports meet the requirements of the Curriculum Planning and Programing, Assessing and Reporting to Parents Guidelines of the NSW Department of Education. I look forward to reading about each students’ learning achievement in the first half of the year. Mrs Kath Parker Relieving Principal

Debating Quirindi Public School debating teams Storm and Hurricanes are entering Round 3 of the Premiers Debating Challenge in Week 9. The first round saw both teams battle it out against each other with great fury. All the girls involved in this debate learnt a valuable lesson from Mr Robert Lewis the adjudicator that you have to argue for the whole four minutes your given to have a chance of winning! "There is no point playing half a netball match if you opposition is playing the whole game". The Storm came out eventual winners of this debate! The second round had the two teams host Werris Creek Public School. Both teams had great improvement in the length of their arguments to the audience. Mrs Pat Harris the adjudicator for this round reminded all debaters to argue like you argue with your parents. We came away with two great wins. Thank you to the parents that came and watched. Could you debate ... that all violent video games should be banned? Or that a student should be banned from technology if they are caught cyber bullying? Or that all tests should be banned from primary school? Congratulations and good luck to the squads of debaters that worked with Miss Wellham during lunches every week!

Rugby Union Last Friday 1 June, Henry Pursehouse and Zac Slade progressed forward to trials for the Regional Rugby team in Tamworth. Henry was successful and was selected in the North West PSSA Rugby team. He will compete at the PSSA State carnival in Coffs Harbour from the 28-30 August.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen The menu was a hit last week with students loving the pumpkin drop biscuits and pumpkin scones. Many have requested a recipe to take home to try over the weekend. All students have a kitchen garden journal where they paste in recipes and complete extra tasks in. This week they have studied the cross section of a pumpkin and completed a sketch of what is looks like. We made the most of all the autumn leaves and completed colourful leaf rubbings. Thank you to the parent helpers last week, Mrs Lucy Donoghue, Mrs Annette Wallis and Miss Kelly-Sue Trengrouse. Your time and help is always greatly appreciated. Mrs Rebecca Tully
