Save with APS Prepay and other programs
When you become an APS Prepay customer, you may be able to reduce your energy usage and save money. Plus, take advantage of other energy–saving tools and programs.
• Does your home waste energy?
Phantom energy loss occurs
from your plugged in, but idle
or turned-off electronics and
appliances. This accounts for up
to 5% of energy used in American
homes according to the Department
of Energy. Find out what’s eating
up your electricity without you
knowing it. Visit aps.com/phantom.
• Replace traditional light bulbs. CFLs produce 70% less heat
than incandescent bulbs and
can save you money on your air
conditioning costs. To find out
how much you can save and where
you can buy APS discounted
CFLs, visit aps.com/mycfls or
call 800 783 7253.
• Home weatherization assistance. You may be spending too much to
heat or cool your home. Reduce
your electricity costs and make your
home more comfortable and safe
with professional weatherization.
To find out the qualifying income
guidelines, visit aps.com/energywise.
• Get rid of your old refrigerator. It may still work, but it can waste
a lot of energy and money. You can
save up to $100 a year by turning it
in. We’ll come to your home, haul it
away and recycle it for FREE, plus
give you a $30 rebate. To schedule
a free pickup, visit aps.com/turnitin
or call 877 514 6654.
• Is it time for a checkup? Give your
home an energy checkup for just
$99 when you use an APS Home
Performance with ENERGY STAR®
qualified contractor. You’ll improve the
comfort of your home and save money.
Learn more at aps.com/checkup or
call 877 850 8358.
• Save with pool pumps and timers. Save up to 80% on your pool’s energy
cost by installing a variable speed
or dual speed pool pump and get
rebates of up to $200. Or save up
to $175 a year with seasonal pool
timers and rebates of up to $75. Visit
aps.com/pools or call 800 230 8904.
• Get your ducts in a row. The APS
Duct Test and Repair Program offers
rebates of up to $250 to have a
contractor certified by the Building
Performance Institute (BPI) test and
repair air leaks in your heating or
cooling duct system. For more
information, visit aps.com/ductrepair or call 602 371 3636 or 888 890 9730.
• Visit our House of Rebates. Take a
walk through our House of Rebates
and click on an area that’s of interest
to you. You’ll learn how you can
save with APS residential rebates at
aps.com/rebatehouse.
• Save with free shade trees. Planting
shade trees can help keep your
home cooler and save you up to
$50 a year on your electric bill.
The APS Shade Tree Program
offers qualified customers living in
Maricopa County up to three free
five-gallon desert-adapted trees
when they attend an hour-long
shade tree workshop. To register
for a workshop, visit aps.com/trees
or call 602 357 0032.
Programs are funded by APS customers and approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission. APS Prepay is a pilot program with a limited number of participants.
APS Prepay Is Prepay right for you?
APS Prepay lets you choose when and how you pay for your electricity.
It’s a “pay as you go” program with no monthly bill. Prepay may be a good
choice for you if you want to:
• Pay smaller amounts toward your energy use any time.
• Get rid of deposits, late fees and more.
• Reduce your energy usage with prepay alerts.
Q Who is eligible for APS Prepay?
A APS Prepay is available to
residential customers only who
have a qualifying “smart meter,” and
who do not (including anyone living
in your home) depend on electrical
devices for health-related reasons.
Additionally, a prepay customer
is not eligible to participate in
Equalizer, Surepay and AutoPay
because a monthly bill is required
for these programs.
Q Why is a smart meter required?
A Your smart meter automatically
transmits your energy usage once
a day which is needed for Prepay.
With a smart meter and prepay, you
can easily monitor how much you
use and how much you spend each
day. This can help you use energy
more efficiently and save money.
Visit aps.com/smartmeter for
more information.
Q Will I receive a bill?
A No, you will no longer receive a
monthly bill either through the mail or
electronically. Your account balance
is calculated every day and your
monthly recurring charges (including
the basic service charge and taxes)
are prorated on a daily basis.
Q Do I have to change my rate plan?
A As long as your rate plan qualifies
for prepay, you do not have to
change it. Most residential rate plans,
including time-of-use plans, are
eligible for APS Prepay. However the
following do not qualify for prepay:
Combined Advantage plans, Peak
Event Pricing, Electric Partial
Requirement Rates and Green
Choice Rates. To compare your plan
with others, visit aps.com/compare.
Q Can a prepay customer also receive the E-3 discount?
A Yes, customers who qualify for the
E-3 discount to their service plan
may also participate in APS Prepay.
Q Is there a fee to change to Prepay?
A No, if you already have an APS
account there is no service fee to
switch to Prepay. However, you
need at least a $20 credit balance
to get started and you must pay
any outstanding balance on your
current account. If you have a
deposit in your current account, it
will be applied to any outstanding
balance and the remaining credit
transferred to your Prepay account
so you will not lose any money.
Q What happens if my account runs out of credit?
A You will be sent a “No Credit
Disconnect” alert and your electrical
service will be automatically
disconnected (even if you miss
alerts). When you reestablish your
credit balance, your service will be
reconnected without any additional
charge. If your account remains
disconnected for 15 consecutive
days, your account will be considered
inactive and a final bill will be issued.
In this case, you will need to pay
a fee of $25 plus tax to reestablish
an account.
Q Do I need to be at home when APS reconnects my service?
A No, you do not need to be at home.
Your payment authorizes APS to
automatically turn the power back
on in your home without contacting
you first. For safety reasons, keep
your electrical appliances, such as an
electrical stove, turned off until you
are reconnected.
APS Prepay at-a-glance• You’ll no longer receive a monthly bill and you can usually keep your current rate plan.
• Your account balance is calculated daily and you can check it online or by calling us.
• You receive “alerts” via email, text or phone to help you monitor your account.
• You can use the same convenient payment methods available to you today: mail, phone or online.
• If your account runs out of money, your service will be disconnected until you reestablish a credit balance. Then your service will be reconnected—at no additional charge.
