Mission &
Vision
Mission: Saving Lives.Vision: From the moment Hope of Life started, our vision has always been to rescue the future
generations of Guatemala and the world through the power of a practical Gospel. To never meet
a physical need without meeting a spiritual need. Transforming generations from dependency to
independence, to become strong leaders for the world and for the Kingdom.
A Single FocusYour love and support wil l change the l ives of men, women and children, who face some of the
harshest poverty on earth. There are many other needs in the world and bil l ions of people who are
desperate, but God is cal l ing us to do what we can in His name among the most vulnerable.
We believe this work shows His love to people who wil l be profoundly impacted by your
compassion and care.
An Active OutreachHope of Life never waits for people to ask for help. Your gift reaches out actively to people who
might not even know that someone cares for them—people who do not ask for help because they
think that no help would come, that no one would care.
We invite you to join us and visit Guatemala and see for yourself the surprise and joy people feel
when they learn that you care deeply for them, and want to heal and help them.
Total TransformationIn everything you do your gift doesn’t just meet physical needs. You are giving the Bread of Life
and Living Water to people facing incredibly deep spiritual hunger and thirst. Jesus says,
“I have come that they may have l ife and have it to the ful l” .
This means sharing al l of God’s gifts with people in need—both the bounty of
His creation, and His everlasting, l i fe-transforming love.

Our Approach
3
Each year it feels as if we’ve run a marathon with you, our fr iends
and partners. Last year, was no different. The challenges seemed
insurmountable at t imes, and we leaned into your support and help
more than ever before. From helping us welcome nearly 100 children
left homeless by a faci l ity f ire in Guatemala City, to bolstering our
support for the elderly home to keep us from closing the doors to
that part of our ministry, you showed up in every crit ical moment and
our gratefulness is overflowing.
2017 was a year of challenges, but also a year to recalibrate to our
mission of Saving Lives. We asked ourselves each day, if the decisions
we were making, the projects we were implementing and the resources
we were distributing were al igned with our mission. At the end of
each day, month and year we want to know that collectively, we have
moved the needle of transformation. We have touched people and
famil ies in ways they couldn’t have imagined. Their story has been
impacted for l i fe and that’s because of you.
Hope of Life believes lives were saved in 2017 and it only happened because
of YOUR commitment. We cannot wait to continue on this journey with you.

Stories
Growing up in Guatemala City as the youngest
of 3 children and suffering abuse at the hands of
an alcoholic father, David has known suffering
from the very beginning of his l ife. Removed
from his father ’s care and forced
to help create a l ife for his family,
the toll these trials took on his
l ife changed David forever. At 15
he married and began a family,
and it was not long before the
disease of alcoholism also began
to affect every area of his l ife. He lost his
children, he lost his job and he lost hope.
With nothing left but the desire to f ind a
better way to l ive, David sought help through
rehabil itation programs and found his way
to Oasis del Eden. It was there where he
was given the opportunity to rebuild his l i fe
and l ive his remaining days in the dignity he
thought was lost forever. Through
the generosity of partners
who bel ieve in transformation,
David’s l i fe was saved. He
received a pacemaker that has
given him years more to share
the goodness of God. His l i fe is
now character ized by wisdom and enthusiasm.
He thanks God every day that the mission of
Hope of Life is to Save Lives, because he has
been a direct recipient of that mission.

Stories
One of the greatest ways we see the display of the daily
mission of Hope of Life, is through our special needs
children. Many of them cannot verbally express the
change that has happened in their lives, they cannot
share how their lives have been saved
but they each have a beautiful story to
share, if you are willing to see them.
We’d like you to meet Zulma.
At 14 years old, Zulma came to us
from a facility known for abuse and
neglect. Her pain was obvious, communicating in
the only way she could and the only way she had
been taught, she would hit anyone who came near
her and would even harm herself.
It ’s been a year that we’ve enjoyed her
presence at Kelly’s House. We know that her
l i fe was saved, we know of the impact as she
shows us what she is feel ing. Being kind to
those around her, repeating
the small things she hears,
resting in her rocking chair
or l istening to her favorite
music. She may not ever be
able to share her story with
words but the change in her is drastic, her joy
is obvious and her dignity is restored. She is
an example of a l i fe, truly saved.

Stories
“Children are the future”. This is one of the driving
forces of the work happening throughout the
Sponsorship Program. Dailin is a sweet, quiet girl
living in CauseLife Village, and
actively participates in the benefits
of this program. By providing the
resources she needs to become
a successful part of the future of
Guatemala, we know that she will
carry on the mission of Saving Lives
herself! Recently we asked Dailin the most impactful
part of her time in Sponsorship, the answer was
enough to swell the hearts of anyone who has been
a part of this incredible mission.
Dail in says, “The most beautiful day I have
ever had was the day I had the opportunity
to help others. I went with the team to visit
vi l lages where there was great
need, needs that my family used
to have. We shared love and
the gospel with these special
people and it was an amazing
experience I had never had
before. I wil l never forget it , and
want to continue helping save l ives.”
Her story is the pinnacle of our mission, the
continuation of other generations stepping up
to Save Lives.

We know children are impacted
by the Sponsorship Program, but
it is clear their family’s lives are
dramatically altered. Reyna has 3 children in the
program and it has only been 1 year of receiving the
help she was so desperate for. What has changed?
Her children are attending school, she is able to
focus on ways to produce better income, provide
more nutritional food and she has the not so small
blessing of sleeping better at
night, at peace, knowing the
next day’s challenges won’t
feel as big as they did before.
The transformation of her
life has transformed her soul.
Hope does that to a person.
Reyna knows what it feels
like to be saved, she takes a
moment each day to thank God and those who are
generous enough to make the mission of Saving
Lives a reality for her daily life.

Stories
It was 2008 when Carlos began his l ife mission
of Pastoring a church. It was only a few members
strong but he preached the Gospel and he
prayed to God that there would be blessings
for following Him. However, his
struggle did not cease. Pastoring
a small vil lage church does not
usually come with a paycheck
that can sustain a Pastor ’s family
and Carlos knew he needed a
practical answer to his prayers.
When a partner church of Hope of Life decided
to step in and work in his small vil lage, he knew
God was answering his prayers.
It was the beginning of 2017 when Carlos
was given 2 goats to help care for his family. In
just one short year, he has had up to 23 goats.
These goats produce milk and meat, and he
is able to buy and sel l his stock to meet the
daily needs of his family. The
greatest blessing of al l though,
is that Carlos remains the Pastor
of his now growing church and
is saving the l ives of those
in his community every day
without the concern of how he
wil l provide for his family. God answered his
prayers through the vision of a church wil l ing
to partner with Carlos’ rural vi l lage, their
mission was simply to save l ives.

prayers...”

From serving as a missionary beginning in
2011 , to now serving as a long-term volunteer,
teaching pre-school classes at Hope of Life,
to f inding her home, purpose and future
placed on her by God, Lauren
Trigueros-Caudil l has had a
remarkable journey with Hope
of Life ministries. Since her
f irst tr ip to Guatemala in 2011 ,
merely months after graduating
from high school, Lauren felt
cal led to serve at Hope of Life and do the
work God had placed in her heart. Serving as a
missionary for 4 years and then being cal led to
serve ful l t ime, she has known the fulf i l lment
of fol lowing His obedient path.
After t imes of questioning her purpose and
feeling lost, Lauren says she now knows that
His plan is always perfect and she obediently
lets God lead her where he needs
her. After moving to Guatemala
in 2015 and placing al l of her
faith in His plan, Lauren now
teaches pre-school classes and
works with people in Kelly’s
House, touching the l ives of
these children and adults each day. She grew
to impact the l ives of those around her, just as
Hope of Life has impacted her own l ife in such
a way that only God could be responsible for.

Stories
María Méndez is mother to Luis Gonzales,
a young boy of just 1 . She is the last of 8
children, l iving in Las Balas, Gualan. Since her
son, Luis was born on March 21, 2017, he was
very weak and fragile. When
María took him to the local
Health Center, she was told that
he had severe malnutrit ion and a
physiological murmur. They said
they would contact a foundation
that would be able to help Luis.
All there was for María to do, was to ask God
for strength, for Luis and for herself.
As each day passed, Luis seemed to grow
weaker and María felt as through her prayers
were answered when a few days later, a group
of Americans came to their house. They
brought baby Luis and María to Esperanza de
Vida, where the doctors took care of Luis and
began a treatment for his diagnosis. They were
both provided food and a place to sleep and it
was then that María felt God watching over her
and her son. Every day, María
looked at Luis beginning to grow
stronger. He started to smile l ike
a normal child and María would
feel her heart rejoice at her
healthy, happy baby boy.
Now, Luis is 1 year and 3
months old. María sti l l visits Hope of Life to
fol low-up as the doctors continue to help her
with milk, food and medicine for Luis. María
feels sure that if help had not arrived that day,
that Luis would not be with us now. Her l i fe
was touched.

OUR Biggest Rescue
Earlier in March of 2017, the country of Guatemala
experienced a devastating tragedy. A fire in an
orphanage, outside of Guatemala City, claimed the
lives of dozens of orphans, who were trapped with no
way to escape.
There were over 700 children with no place to go, and
no one to care for them. These children had been removed
from their homes after instances of abuse, threat of
human trafficking, or other tragic circumstances, just
to face another horrible living situation.
Hope of Life was there to open its doors to as
many of these children as possible. We saved up to
100 children and brought them to live with us in the
coming weeks. It would become our biggest rescue.
However, this came with a great f inancial cost. To
be able to provide emergency relocation and care for
just the f irst six months, cost hundreds of thousands
of dollars, but you did not back down.
When we asked you to jo in us in br inging hope
to as many of these chi ldren as poss ib le, for our
b iggest rescue yet , you came to our s ide. Together,
we were part of the solut ion for these chi ldren in
need of rescuing.
