1 Ranthambore National Park
Sawai Madhopur District, Rajasthan322001, India
One of the largest national parks innorthern India, Ranthambore National Parkhouses a variety of flora and fauna. It is atrue delight for nature enthusiasts, birdwatchers, and adventure seekers. Thenational park is named after the historicRanthambore Fortress, which lies within thepark. The Banas River surrounds the park onthe north and the Chambal River lies on itssouth.Today, Ranthambhore is one ofthe best places to witness tigers intheir natural habitat. The leopard, slothbear, hyena, wolf, jackal, civet cat,Indian marsh crocodile, the plentiful
sambar and a variety of snakes livehere. Over 360 species of birds andraptors are also found here andmigratory birds come from Europeand Siberia to Surwal Lake (35 km) inwinter.
2 Ganesh Temple
Within Ranthambore National Par,Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India
Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Ganesh Templeis located inside the Ranthambhore Fort,within the Park. Ganesh Chaturthicelebrations draw large crowds, includingtourists and locals. Entry to the Fort is freeso as to allow devotees easy access to thetemple. They arrive in droves onWednesdays and on the chauth of everymonth.
3 Ranthambore Fort
Within Ranthambore National Park,Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan 322001,India
This ancient citadel is situated almostexactly at the meeting point of the Vindhyaand the Aravalli hill ranges. The Fort, afterwhich the National Park is named, is thoughtto have been built in 944 CE and isconsidered one of the strongest forts in thecountry. It was occupied by Raja Hamir formany years until the siege by AllaudinKhalji’s army in 1301 forced the Rajput kingto surrender. Legend has it that womencommitted jauhar, or self-immolation, toescape from enemy hands. It can be tiring towalk up to the Fort’s ramparts but the viewof the Park and its three lakes from the topis worth the effort. Locals believe that themortar used in making the Fort was mixedwith the blood of brave warriors!
4 Khandar Fort
Khandar Tehsil, Sawai Madhopurdistrict, Rajasthan, India.
There are seven temples within the fort.There is an old Jain temple which displays anexquisite work of carved rock idols of JainGurus. There is also a Hanuman temple witha single stone idol of Lord Hanuman with ademon under its feet. The other temples atthe Khandar Fort are Chaturbhuja Temple,Gobind Devji Temple, Jagatpalji Temple, andJayanti Mata Temple. Chaturbhuja Templehouses an impressive idol of the four armedGod. An annual fair is held at the JayantiMata Temple. There is also the beautifulRani Temple of the Khandar Fort located ontop of the highest platform of the fort andperhaps the most magnificent part of theFort. There are a lot of damaged sculptureshere.Other attractions at the Khandar Fort arethe two huge water tanks of Ramkunda andLaxmankunda . Seven small ponds are alsothere but due to lack of maintenance, onlyfour ponds are clearly visible. Tigers,leopards, and many other wild animals canbe easily seen in the fort. There is MaaJayanti And Bramani's temple in the fort andthe place of Jind Baba is also famous . Mr.Bharat Lal Dwivedi, head of a Committeenamed as Jind Baba Seva Samiti Khandar, isworking hard for the development of theesteemed temple of goddess Jayanti.
