Prep Site Make image backups Clean out “Junk” from Exchange/Files Cleanup AD Run EBS Prep wizard Use 1 gb network connection for servers Prep tool requires single NIC Backup Logon Scripts & GPO’s Plan Application migration (QB, Peachtree, etc.)
Triple check compatibility (64 bit?)
Server Integrity Check Run SBS BPA
Checks:○ Exchange Server○ Update service○ Network configuration○ Microsoft® Windows® SharePoint® Services○ The Microsoft SQL Server® database software
Check Service Packs○ Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1 ○ Windows Server® 2003 Service Pack 2 ○ Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2○ Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack 2
Run ISInteg as close to migration as possible isinteg –s *SERVERNAME* –pri -test alltests isinteg –s *SERVERNAME* –pri -fix* -fix CAN destroy data, make sure you have a good backup!
Prep Source Server Function levels raised (Forest & Domain) Exchange working in Native Mode Source Tool run Create list of Printers and Shares All these services use correct startup:

Pre-Install FV-NSSB (2003)
AD - FSMODNSDHCPExchangeCertificate HolderUser DataSharePointApplications
FS-NSSB (2008)
Install Create answer file from installation DVD Save answer file to root of USB key
Don’t change answer file name Bring lunch back DO NOT TOUCH!
Post-Install FV-NSSB (2003)
AD – Backup DCExchangeCertificate HolderRWW/OWAUser DataSharePointApplications
FS-NSSB (2008)AD - FSMODNSDHCP (No
settings)
Common Install Errors Source tool not run
Self explanatory, run the source tool on Source server
SP1 not installedCheck for SBS2003 SP1 (Not Server SP1)
○ HK_LM\Software\Microsoft\Small Business Server\Service Pack Number
○ If the key doesn’t exist, SP1 is not installed
Replication Failures Replication Taking too long
Check your services (rebooting will reset some)Fix Registry
○ SourceHK_LM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTFrs\Parameters\Backup/Restore\Process at Startup\BurFlags = D4
○ DestinationHK_LM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTFrs\Parameters\Backup/Restore\Process at Startup\BurFlags = D2HK_LM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters\SysvolReady = 1
○ Stop NTFRS on both, restart Source NTFRS first, then Destination
Cleanup Setup DHCP Ranges Let Synchronize for 90 minutes Setup GPO’s to replace login scripts
Moving FV-NSSB (2003)
AD – Backup DCExchangeCertificate HolderRWW/OWA
○ Firewall Ports
User DataSharePointApplications
FS-NSSB (2008)AD - FSMODNSDHCP
Begin the Move - SSL Certificate If you use SSL Certificate it needs to be
moved Make sure you export ALL certificates
(GoDaddy issues 3, 2 for GoDaddy, 1 for your site)
After importing and installing, run “Fix My Network” wizard
If the Certificate is moved BEFORE Public Folders a new Self-Signed Cert must be issued on SOURCE server
Move Exchange Move Mailboxes
Be prepared to loose a few emails Start Small to verify settings Move Offline Address Book Move Public Folders
Backup Public Folders to a mailbox After moving Exchange, re-point Firewall Disable Exchange services on Source until you know it
works on DestinationMigration Help file recommends uninstalling Exchange here,
we recommend waiting until the end
Moving FV-NSSB (2003)
AD – Backup DCUser DataSharePointApplications
FS-NSSB (2008)AD - FSMODNSDHCPExchangeCertificate HolderRWW/OWA
SharePoint Option 1
Manually copy files & create new site
Option 2Follow Migration Guide to move site to
*NEWSERVER*\OldCompanyWebUse STSADM to move files & settings
○ stsadm –o export –url http://oldcompanyweb –filename *.bak –includeusersecurity –overwrite
○ stsadm –o import –url http://companyweb –filename *.bak –includeusersecurity –overwrite
Delete OldCompanyWeb
Users and Groups No Users or Groups show up in SBS
Console until this is done Must be done manually at any time
during migration Using ADSI Edit, open each user/group
and change specified attributeGroup Type
Distribution Groups 8Security Groups -2147483640
msSBSCreationStateUsers/Security/Distribution Created
Moving FV-NSSB (2003)
AD – Backup DCUser DataApplications
FS-NSSB (2008)AD - FSMODNSDHCPExchangeCertificate HolderRWW/OWASharePoint
Applications Different for every client Plan for incompatibility Plan buffer time Call support
Moving FV-NSSB (2003)
AD – Backup DCUser Data
FS-NSSB (2008)AD - FSMODNSDHCPExchangeCertificate HolderRWW/OWASharePointApplications
Data Most time consuming – plan accordingly Get Share names from Source Server Always “pull” data
(ie Use Destination server to move data across, cuts packets by 1/3rd)
Robocopy script: robocopy \\FV-NSSB\UserShares \\FS-NSSB\UserShares
/E /COPY:DATSO /V /LOG:C:\Copyresults.txt /V is not in Migration Help File, tells Robocopy to list files
which did not copy correctly Disable user access to shares during data move
Cleanup FV-NSSB (2003)
AD – Backup DC Exchange Services
FS-NSSB (2008)AD - FSMODNSDHCPExchangeCertificate HolderRWW/OWASharePointApplicationsUser Data
Finish Migration Remove Exchange Move Shared Printers to Destination with same name Run DCPROMO and remove AD from Source
Failed to transfer floating point role to FS-NSSB○ This error means your DNS is still pointed at your source server,
point it to the Destination server and restart DCPROMO NetDom
Remove old server name from DNS/ADSInetdom computername FS-NSSB /add:FV-NSSB.nssb.ihnAdd DWORD:
HK_LM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\parameters\DisableStrictNameChecking = 1
Connecting a PC Navigate to http://connect Click Start Connect Computer Program Run Through Wizard Remapping profiles works well Don’t create computer name on server first Add SBS 2008 Vista Gadget
Using GPO’s with SBS 2008 Create a new GPO for your login script Vista, XP, & 2003 need Client Side
Extensions (Automatic Update) Use Preferences for Vista
Create EnableLinkedConnections DWORD registry key:HK_LM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\System\EnableLinkedConnections = 1
Preferences work with XP if XmlLite is installed (Not an automatic update)
