From the Principal:
We have had an excellent start to term 3. I have been impressed with the work ethic students are
displaying. They are engaged in their learning and are working hard to achieve their Personal Best.
I have particularly enjoyed seeing our Senior students playing with the Juniors in the sand pit. They
have worked together to create an interesting road system!
Students who attended Canberra Camp were asked to reflect on the highlights of camp. I hope you
enjoy reading them and looking at the photos.
Mrs Anderson has commenced teaching Indonesian this term. She will be teaching both classes,
so all students in the school will be having fun learning Bahasa Indonesia.
Early this year the Student Forum commenced a fundraising campaign in order to support a school
in Kenya. Miss Monty’s sister Gemma has arrived at the school and has been sending information
and photos to us this week. The school, Nabuyole FYM is in Kenya and is operating under very
challenging conditions, with no power and very few resources. The Early childhood classroom has
nothing—no desks or any resources. We were all amazed when we saw a photo of the “soccer
ball” the students use to play soccer! Ask your child what it is made of! Miss Monty worked with the
students to compile a list of questions to send her sister and we are eagerly awaiting the answers.
A very small amount of money can make a significant difference. e.g.$85.00 can purchase 7 desks.
Our students are keen to continue raising money to help the school buy resources.

Canberra Camp 2014
Students from our school have recently undertaken an
education tour of the national capital. Students were given the
opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs
with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and
democracy.
The Australian government recognises the importance of all
young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part
of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in
meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is
contributing funding of $260.00 per student under the
Parliament and Civics education Rebate program towards those
costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion
of the excursion
Imogen— My most favourite thing on camp was when we went to the AIS—Australian Ins(tute of
Sport. We were taken around by Chad Perris who is a Paralympian 200m Sprinter. We saw a lot of
the training rooms and the record for the “Leg Press” is 755kgs. Is was an amazing and inspiring
place.
Jacinta: My favourite thing on camp would have to be the Dinosaur Museum. I really enjoyed seeing
the Stegosaurus skeleton, with all it’s plates and spikes. I really enjoyed buying things from there as
well. I learnt that a plant ea(ng dinosaurs had flat teeth. I had a great (me but it was really cold.
Tyler: The best thing in Canberra was at the hotel because I had a good room of friends. At the Na(onal
Museum we got lost so we couldn’t go to the gi7 shop. When we where at the ski slope it was the best.
The bus run was fun because we watched movies.
Nicole: On camp we went to a li9le place called Cockington Green and Gardens. We saw a soccer field
and on the soccer field there was “Where’s Wally” and a train and we saw Winnie the Pooh, Mickey
Mouse and Minnie Mouse .
Riley: On Canberra Camp I bought this thing called rocket balloons which you pump up with a pump, so
when we got to our room I pumped up one of the balloons and I let it go like the instruc(ons said and it
was so funny because it made a noise like a giant fly. Also when we were at the snow all the boys
ganged up on the teachers and we threw about 50 snow balls at the teachers! Which was really funny.
Nicholas: On Canberra Camp I really liked it when we went bowling because I was coming last by 15 points
and I ended up winning by 10 points. I also really enjoyed the snow because I had never been to the snow
and never been skiing on snow before.
Brooklyne: One good thing that happened on Canberra Camp was the “Embassy drive” because all the
different Embassies were so pre9y and exo(c. My favourite Embassy was the Indian Embassy, because it
was so bright and colourful. Another good thing was when we went for an early morning walk and saw
loads and loads of wild kangaroos on a golf course.
Mrs Anderson: What an amazing week we had at Canberra Camp! From watching an earthquake registering
in the Pacific, to deba(ng “Every household in Australia should have a water tank” to checking out “Blue
Poles” at the Art Gallery.
Did you know a $1.3 million investment is now worth $100 million?
Our students were a credit to their school. Congratula(ons everyone.

School Newsleer ‘Orange’ School Bus Services
Is your child star(ng or changing schools in 2015 and are you are seeking Transport
Assistance on an ‘Orange’ school bus?
In 2015 all Year 7 students, will be a9ending high school as secondary students. This will have
a substan(al impact on the ‘Orange’ school bus network and will require significant planning.
It is very important that Public Transport Authority establishes the number of eligible
students requiring Transport Assistance.
The Public Transport Authority is reques(ng parents that have children star(ng or changing
schools in 2015 and requiring bus travel to complete an online applica(on for Transport
Assistance at www.schoolbuses.wa.gov.au by no later than 31 August 2014 for travel in
2015.
Please be aware; Transport Assistance is offered to eligible families in two forms, either by
‘Orange’ school bus or a Conveyance Allowance paid to parents to drive their children to and
from school. The type of Transport Assistance provided to a family depends on many factors
including, loca(on and bus availability.
If your child is currently travelling on an ‘Orange’ school bus and they are not changing
schools next year, there is no need to reapply or contact us as your transport arrangements
as a rule will remain the same.
If you have any further ques(ons please phone 9326 2625 or
email [email protected]
