STORMWATER RECHARGE TRENCH CALCULATIONS
Stormwater recharge trenches shall be designed and constructed to recharge the stormwater
runoff generated by the project using the Rational Method and in accordance with Sea Isle City
Ordinance No. 1655.
Design Parameters
Storm: 2, 5, 10 & 25 year, 15 minute duration with 5.2 in/hr intensity based on Time of
Concentration (Tc) = 0.25 hrs. Rainfall Intensity based on NJDOT Drainage Design Manual
Rainfall Intensity-Duration-Frequency Curves (East). Calculations provided limited to 25 yr.
storm since the recharge requirement & storage capacity provided for the 25 year storm will
exceed that for the 2, 5, and 10 year storms.
Soils: Urban land-psamments (USPSBR) per Natural Resources Conservation Services Web
Soil Survey.
Calculations & Stormwater Managment Design based on requirements provided in City
Ordinance No. 1655.
Stormwater Volume Calculations (Rational Method)
Runoff (Q) = Runoff Coefficient(C) x Rainfall Intensity(I) x Area(A)

Vegetated Vacant Lot = 4,125 sf (C=0.30)
Q = 0.30 x 5.4 in/hr x 0.095 Ac. = 0.154 cfs

Pervious Coverage Runoff:
Landscaping: 0.30 x 5.2 in/hr x 0.035 ac (1,541 sf) = 0.0546 cfs
Total Runoff: 0.359 cfs
C. Actual Additional Runoff Due to Project Increase in Impervious Surface Coverage:
0.267 cfs (Pre-Development) - 0.359 cfs (Post Development) = 0.092 cfs or 83 cf
under 25 Year Storm.
D. Total Runoff Volume to be Recharged Per Ordinance 1655:
Post-Development Peak Volume: 0.359 cfs x 60 sec x 15 min = 323 cf
On-Site Recharge Volume Required = 30% of Post Development Runoff
= 323 cf x 0.30 = 97 cf
Recharge Trench Volume Calculations
New Recharge Trench Dimensions:
6' wide x 1.33' deep with a (4) 6"Ø perforated pipes and a stone void ratio of 35%
Trench Volume:
