A motion was made by Ken Warner, seconded by Carol Callowhill to reduce the dues from $35 to$25. The motion failed on vote. A Welcome Package was suggested to reach out tonew members of the community. It would makethe Association more visible to the community. Some people see no benefit to membership.Possibly packets would include older newsletters tocatch new residents up with our past activities.

A motion was made by Bob Frankenbush, seconded by Bob Holum, to leave the dues at $35

and give new members a discount of $10. Anamendment by Bob Frankenbush, seconded by Nancy Renquist, would be that anybody joining orrejoining in 2011 would get a $10 “stimulus.” Motion passed 20 in favor, 3 opposed. A motion was made to give those people who carefor the bridges a special gift for working. Themotion was made by Ken Warner and seconded by   Abby Oglesbee. This would possibly entail 6 giftcertificates. The vote was unanimous.Roger Kruckeberg, Legislation chairman hasinvestigated the boat ramp on the air strip property

and it CANNOT be used by our residents. It doesnot belong to us.  Tom Krajcik, Traffic and Safety, has met withcounty reps. Walkers MUST step off the road if a  vehicle is coming. Residents are urged not tolandscape out to the street so that walkers may beable to get out of the way.

Beautification ReportSubmitted by Ken Warner

A ton of work was done by the BeautificationCommittee. Six Triple Christmas Palms wereplanted at the entrance along with 2 RobelliniPalms. The adjacent lot has been cut andpoisoned. Shrubs were replanted, and although we had a recent cold-snap, all are healthy. Fivetons of rock went into the wall, as well.Peter’s Lawn Service has been hired tomaintain the area once per month.

Five trees were planted along Isles Blvd. toreplace the Fox Tail palms. Single Christmas Tree palms were planted on the corners. For those in the community looking to replacetheir Fox Tail palms, contact Ken Warner orCarol Callowhill for a good price. A huge thank you to all who have helped. Volunteers are still needed to help maintain thebridge areas.

Weather Was Great for Pizza Luau Party Submitted by Carol Callowhill

How could anyone forget the 2010 AnnualPizza Party? Well, if you attended, you’d

still remember the cold, the wind, and, ohyes…the rain! Not the best of times.

This year, however, Mother Nature worked  with us and we spent a beautiful nightalong the canal behind A Slice of Paradise.

Once again, Carol Callowhill, Alease Case, and Judy Warner did an outstanding job.  The theme for the evening was “Pizza Aloha,” complete with authentic Tikitorches, crocodile candles and hibiscusflowers.

The pizza was the best! Brandon, theowner, did a great job with many varietiesof pizza…and plenty of it, too! Nobody

 went home hungry that night!

We also celebrated Carl Dieckman’s birthday thanks to Bill and Charlotte Rudy. Charlottemade the “Best Cake in the World” for Carl, Gwen and everyone in attendance to enjoy. If you missed this one, you missed a great night out!

Holiday Party a Huge SuccessSubmitted by Carol Callowhill

The SCCA Holiday Party was a huge

success. Held at the Square Grouper Bar &Grill on January 12th, more than 60 residentsattended this year. The “Cocktail Party” w asopen to all members and residents of Summerland Key.

As usual, resident and member Lynne Bell, owner and Master Chef of the Square

Grouper, did an outstanding job. “Thecrab cakes were my favorite,” said socialdirector Carol Callowhill. She went on tosay, “We tried to do something a littledifferent this year. I think it was well received by the membership.” Rather than have a sit-down dinner, Callowhill decided to have a cocktail-appetizer party

with a cash bar. Everyone had the option to stay for dinner and order from the menu on aself-pay basis.

Co-chairing the event with Callowhill were Alease Case and Judy Warner, who always do agreat job. What a team! Thanks, ladies!
