Planning for Inclusion Success in Shared Instruction Presented by: Apryl Levy, Michelle Rhodes and Allison Schultz ELC - 101 Inclusion is a way of thinking, a way of being, and a way of making decisions for all learners. Shared, whole-class instructional times can often be challenging for students with significant needs and their teachers. This session will build participants’ understanding of how to craft thoughtful lesson plans that support inclusion students’ individualized goals. Strategies for building student engagement and participation will be explored. Inclusion is about intentionally planning for the success of all students!

A-Z Survival Guide for Increasing Student Ownership and Engagement In

Literacy | Third through Sixth Grade

Reaching Our Hardest to Reach Students

Presented by: Ariana Carbone, Melissa de Pau, and Kelly Santell

ELC - 103 Building a positive culture of learning is fundamental for student success. Social emotional and growth

mindset lessons will work for most students to provide that additional tool needed for academic and

personal growth. For the hardest to reach students, additional structures are needed to create buy-in. You

will walk away with proactive and preventative strategies to use with students. You will learn how to best

support the needs of these learners in the first few weeks of school and dive into a day in the life of

managing these ongoing relationships.

practices for all levels of readers and how the new literacy curricular materials incorporate these strategies.

Data Day in 30 Minutes or Less

Presented by: Brianne Froehlich, Lauren Locke, Jenene Meyer and Jennifer

Micholson

PLC - 104 Our goal by the end of this session is for you to walk away with a ready to use document that tracks

students’ data in all literacy skills. This document allows you to fluidly move students when acceleration

regrouping is necessary, input MAP test scores to track RIT and percentiles, track all common assessment

data based on skill as well as track reading levels to establish meaningful guided groups. Guiding questions

within the document will allow you to reflect and adjust future instruction. All members of your PLC will

have access to and can navigate this easy-to-use document. Oh, and did we mention we do this in 30

minutes or less?!

Meaningful Feedback for Writing in the Target Language

in writing in the target language. Participants will utilize components from the new Writing Resource Guide

as well as the ACTFL Can-Do descriptors to provide focused and purposeful feedback to students.

Six Essential Expectations for Effective Mathematics Instruction Presented by: Dr. Juli Dixon PLC - 106 How are students supported to make connections in mathematics in ways that support students to reason mathematically? Explore six essential expectations for effective mathematics instruction that emphasize the mathematical practices and the content they support with the purpose of increasing student achievement for all learners. Engage in tasks and classroom video to create a shared image of classrooms where effective mathematics instruction is in place.

| At the conclusion of session two, please help yourself to a boxed lunch in the main hallway.|

throughout our math planning and instruction. We will share how data gathering and reflection look for

our team and at our school. Then we will dive in to how we use this data and these notes to inform our

daily numeracy, the over-all structure of our math block, purposeful implementation of group and

independent stations, small-group guided instruction, and ideas to maximize math acceleration time. We

look forward to sharing a variety of practical samples, examples, materials, and resources that are easy to

implement in any classroom.

Restorative Justice | Making It Right Presented by: Gina DeFalco, Amy Miskowicz and Michelle Roth

ELC - 102 "We don't get to decide whether we have challenging students in our classes, but we can certainly decide how we respond to them." - Carol Ann Tomlinson. By implementing restorative justice in the classroom, students will take ownership for their actions and make it right, all while preserving the positive classroom culture that has been built. Participants in this session will leave with knowledge and understanding of restorative justice practices, resources to implement restorative justice, and an understanding of relationship building within the classroom. Join us as we transition from punitive discipline to restorative practices. It's time to make it right!

Interacting versus Reacting |The Secrets to Classroom Engagement

Presented by: Nicole Chase and Claire Elsey

ELC - 103 Interacting versus Reacting: The Secrets to Classroom Engagement emphasizes that student behavior is a

response to environment. Teachers have the power to develop and maintain rapport with students

through the three C’s of engagement: Care, Control, and Consistency. When students take ownership for

the three C’s within the classroom, trust is built mutually- student to teacher, and student to student. The

three C’s set the foundation for high expectations and efficient routines.

Experiences (ACEs), he decides to radically change the school's approach to discipline. With the aid of diary

camera footage, the film follows six students. From getting into fights, grappling with traumatic events in

their lives, and on the cusp of dropping out, they find healing, support and academic promise at Lincoln

High.” During this session the video will be presented and time will be allowed for participant discussion.

The school highlighted in the video is an alternative high school. The Schaumburg Education Association

has been working with School District 54 in developing trainings for the staff based on ACES and social

emotional learning. The lessons in the video are applicable to all ages of students from Pre-K to junior high.
