BORDER UNION AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY BYE-LAWS1. All Animals shown to take their ages from 1st January, if not otherwise stated.

2. Cattle and Goats: the age of animals must be given on the Entry Form.

3. Animals must be the bona fide property and in the possession of the Exhibitors from 28th June (the last day of entry).

4. All Entries must be made on the appropriate forms and submitted to the Border Union Agricultural Society, Kelso, not later than 5.00 p.m. on Friday 28th June. Entries will not be accepted by telephone at any time.

5. Exhibitors who have not paid their Entry fees shall not be entitled to compete.

6. There can be no substitution of named entries in any Section. If there should be such a substitution the animal will be disqualified.

7. Any animal not entered may not be shown. If there should be such a case, at the Discretion of the Directors, all the animals from the Exhibitor will be disqualified.

8. All Animals, Machinery and Equipment admitted to the Showground will remain entirely at the risk of their Exhibitors who must take charge of their property at all times.

9. All Exhibits must be in the Showground at least one hour before judging is due to commence on Friday 26th July and by 8.30 a.m. on Saturday 27th July.

10. Exhibitors must remain in charge of their exhibits until the end of the Show.

11. Admission tickets will be sent to Exhibitors prior to the Show. Attendants CANNOT obtain free admission to the Showground unless such a ticket is produced. The number of tickets allocated to exhibitors will be based, pro rata, on the total number of entries.

12. The Judges shall have the power to withhold any prizes should they think the Exhibits are not deserving of them. The Judges are particularly requested to satisfy themselves, as far as possible, regarding the soundness of all Horses before awarding the prizes, and to avoid giving preference to animals showing symptoms of hereditary diseases. Judges may consult the Society’s Veterinary Surgeons if they deem it expedient. No protests on veterinary grounds will be considered.

13. During the judging of stock, no person will be allowed in the Ring except Judges, Stewards and Attending Members of the Class being judged. Attending Members will enforce this Bye-Law.

14. Judges who wish the assistance of another Judge shall have the power to choose one, and it is the duty of the Attending Member to see that the Judge so chosen has no personal interest in the exhibit to be judged. Judges shall not place animals that they have bred or owned at any time.

15. All disputes and any objections to the decision of the Judges, shall be referred to the Society Directors, by whom they shall be finally settled, without appeal. Any dispute or objection must be lodged with the Secretary, in writing, within 24 hours from the date of the Show, accompanied by a deposit of £50.00, which is liable to forfeit if the objection is not upheld.

16. All Cups and Trophies offered for competition at the Show are the property of the Border Union Agricultural Society and are awarded annually in perpetuity. They must be returned to the Secretary not less than three weeks before the Show.

17. All animals, except horses, shall remain in their pens or stances until at least after the Parade on Saturday 27th July.

18. Prize-winning Horses, Cattle and Goats must take part in the Grand Parade on Saturday 27th July.

19. Judges have the authority to ask for the removal of any animal from the Show Ring.

20. Long Service Medallists will be given free Admission. Tickets on application in writing to the Secretary.

21. The Trustees, of the Border Union Agricultural Society accept no responsibility whatever for loss, injury or damage to any person, animal or property on the Showground or the approaches thereto.

Members must display their Hanging Passes (to be sent out with Membership Pack) to gain admission to the Members’ Car Park or Ringside.

STABLINGOvernight accommodation is available at Kelso Race Course at a cost of £42.00 per stable per night, price inclusive of VAT. Extra bales of shavings are available for £6.00

IT IS MANDATORY THAT ALL HORSES USING THESE STABLING FACILITIES ARE VACCINATED AGAINST EQUINE INFLUENZA WITHIN 6 MONTHS.

Passports should be available for inspection at all times.

CATTLE ENTRY FEES and STALLS The booking of cattle stalls is COMPULSORY. Please state on entry form the number of stalls required. You can enter as many animals as you wish but cannot bring more cattle to the Show than the number of stalls you have booked.

A valid membership card must be in the rider’s/handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the

owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owner’s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships.

Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern from 6th – 8th August 2019.

NPS Qualifying Rounds: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective Mountain & Moorland Stud Books. Part breds are not eligible for Mountain & Moorland Classes. NPS Scotland / Townhead Pet n Pony In Hand Mountain & Moorland Championship.

The Champion and Res. Champion in all Mixed, pure-bred M & M, or Breed Championships will qualify for the Final which will take place at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 23rd August 2019. Qualification may go to 3rd in the Championship (i.e. 1st Reserve Champion).

NPS Scotland / NFU Mutual Open In-hand Riding Pony/Hunter Pony Championship.

The highest placed pony, in each Open In-Hand Riding Pony or Hunter Pony Class (foal classes excluded) not already qualified, will qualify for the Final which will take place at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 23rd August 2019. Qualifications to go no lower than 4th place.

NPS Scotland / Kilgraston School M&M Lead Rein & First Ridden Championship.

The 2 highest placed ponies in the Lead Rein and First Ridden Class not already qualified will go forward to the final which will take place at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 23rd August 2019. Qualifications to go no lower than 4th place.

Please note for all NPS Scotland Qualifiers:

1a Ponies may only qualify once for each NPS Scotland Competition Final.

1b Ponies that take a second qualifier for the same section will be disqualified from entering the final.

1c It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to ensure that their jockey/handler is aware of their pony’s qualification status

2 All Mountain & Moorland Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective stud book. Part bred, X registered ponies, ponies in the appendices of their main stud book and Eriskay ponies are not eligible.

3. Qualification in the M. & M In Hand Section may go Champion, Reserve Champion and 1st Reserve Champion. This excludes the NPS Scotland Spring and Summer Shows where 1st and 2nd prize winners will qualify. Qualification for M&M Novice, Open, WHP, Lead Rein, First Ridden and Riding pony/Hunter pony classes may go to no lower than 4th place.

4. A Judge is not obliged to award an NPS Scotland Finals qualification if he/she feels that the pony is not of a sufficient standard.

5. Cavasson nosebands are the only nosebands permitted in flat ridden class

6. NPS Scotland Kilmannan Novice Ridden. Ponies can compete as novices in this competition for two consecutive years provided they do not submit an entry to the final in the first year.

7. Entries will only be accepted via our on-line entry system, Entry Master

It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to keep the qualification card safely as it is essential to complete your entry. Paper entries will not be accepted.

8. Closing Dates for Entries - Wednesday 31st July 2019 for all shows prior to that date. Shows from 1st to 5th August – the closing date is 8th August

9. The OWNER must be or become a member of NPS Scotland to enter the Finals.

10. All ridden ponies must be shown off the lead rein except in the specified Lead Rein Qualifier Class.

11. In Mountain and Moorland classes riders of stallions must be 12 years old or over when riding small breeds (Shetland, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Welsh A & B). For large breeds (Highland, Fell, Dales, Connemara, New Forest, Welsh C & D) riders of stallions must be 14 years old or over.

12. A child must have attained their 12th birthday as of the 1st January in the current year to either strip or lunge pony at a NPS show, except for stallions where age will same as in the Rule Book to ride a stallion.

13. Handlers of stallions or colts must be 14 years old or over.

14. Handlers of ponies in In Hand classes aged 14 years and under must wear a correctly secured skull caps/riding hat that meets the current standards.

15. The Finals will take place at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 23rd August 2019.

OTHER AWARDSThis Show is a qualifying round for the British Connemara Pony Society ‘Tam O’Shanter Championship’ finals, to be held at the BCPS Breed Show in Mid-July 2020, date and venue to be advised on the BCPS website nearer the time. The highest three placings in Class 42 – Connemara Mares – will qualify for the Tam O’Shanter Breeding Championship (3 qualifiers), and the highest three placings of each age group in Class 43 – Connemara yearlings and two year olds – will qualify for the Tam O’Shanter Breeding Championship (6 qualifiers).This Show is a qualifier for the British Connemara Pony Society Young Handler Championship. All Young Handler Classes are to be Judged on Handler Turnout, Presentation of Pony/Horse and Showing Technique. These classes are open to Pure-Bred and Part-Bred Ponies/Horses. The qualifying handlers need not be a member to qualify but will need to become full members to enter the final.

Highest place Connemara Ponies 148cm and 138cm with one from each height to qualify. Exhibitors do not need to be members to qualify but must be a member to compete in the Final.This show is a qualifier for the NPS Area 4 Northern Breeders In Hand Supreme Championship, Sponsored by “M P GLOSS PRODUCTS UK LTD”. The Champion and Reserve from the Riding Pony Breeding, Hunter Pony Breeding and Mountain & Moorland In Hand will qualify for the Final to be held on Monday 26th August 2019 at the NPS Area 4 Summer Show. Qualifiers do not have to Members of the NPS.

This show is a qualifier for the 2019 Highland Pony Society Youngstock Championship. The highest placed youngster will qualify for the Highland Pony Youngstock Championships to be held at Central Scotland Highland Pony Club – Summer Show and one in central England. Dates to be confirmed. The qualifying Exhibitor can select which Championship Show they wish to enter. Only pure bred registered Highland Ponies1, 2 or 3 years may enter. Exhibitors are not required to be Members of the Highland Pony Society. The card goes to the first prize winner. If the pony has already qualified, then the card passes to the second-place pony but no further.

CALEDONIAN SHOWING CHAMPIONSHIPSThe Caledonian Showing Championships are now well established in the showing calendar and will once again give 2019 competitors the opportunity to compete at a top level Championship Final in Scotland.

Evening Performances, loads of bling and razzmatazz .... everything an end of season Championship should have!

This year’s show will be held at Highfield @ Howe, near Ladybank, Fife on 12/13 October 2019

This Show is a qualifier and every horse & pony placed 1st and 2nd in all Inhand, Ridden Showing classes (not fun classes) & Working Hunter/Pony classes will qualify to compete in any appropriate class at the Finals. Qualification will be from placings, no qualification cards will be awarded in the ring, and no qualification can go down the line. Qualification is for the Horse & Pony except for Adult/Young Handler classes, where the Handler qualifies.

All qualified horses and ponies will be listed on the Caledonian Showing Show’s website www.caledonianchampionships.webs.com where you will also find a regularly updated list of qualifying shows and a wealth of other information.

FESTIVAL SCOTLAND 2019This show is affiliated to Festival Scotland 2019 Championships. CATTLEAll entries must comply with orders and regulations under Diseases of Animals Acts current at the time of the Show.

CATTLE PASSPORTS: Each animal must be accompanied by its BCMS passport otherwise entry to the Showground WILL BE REFUSED.

Any Exhibitor bringing cattle to the Show from outwith a 4 year testing area must in the previous 60 days from the Show have obtained a negative TB result on all the cattle. All Exhibitors will be sent a Form to be completed by a private veterinary surgeon. The form MUST be received by the BORDER UNION PRIOR TO the cattle’s arrival at the Showground.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING BVD:All cattle coming to the Show must come from a herd that is accredited free of BVD or each animal (including calves) must be individually tested free of the virus (antigen) whether or not they are vaccinated. For those who require to be tested, please take the necessary steps and contact your vet in good time. All paperwork will be checked.

NOTE TO ALL EXHIBITORS: ALL Exhibitors must bring appropriate certification with them to the Show – Passports, BVD certification as appropriate and TB certification (if appropriate). Any Exhibitor failing to produce the correct Paperwork will not be allowed entry to the Cattle Section. All paperwork will be checked prior to entry.

Sections or Classes with insufficient entries may be amalgamated at the discretion of the Directors.

The Goat Classes / Milking Competitions / are held under the Rules, Regulations and Recognition of the British Goat Society. All exhibits must be registered with the BGS as in the ownership and in the name of the exhibitor, the registered name and number being quoted on the entry form. (Also the kidding date for goats in milk). All goats in milk must be kidded or aborted a minimum of 30 days previous to the date of the Show.
