We start this acadeic ear with the welcoenews that the Uniersit of Westinster hasoed up 17 places in the Sunday Timesleague table, published in Septeber 2010.We are the ost iproed uniersit in thecountr and can be rightl proud of what wecan offer our students.

Our scholarship prograe continues to gofro strength to strength and we continue tobe known across the world for the successesof our scholarship schee and for the studentswe support. As our ai is to build capacit indeeloping countries our scholarship studentsust return hoe after the copletion of theircourses. I recentl et with scholars in Istanbulwho had returned to Turke and who told eabout their lies since leaing our uniersit.All of the recognised how their degree hadgien the real opportunities to change anddeelop their lies and how iportant it wasto the to gie back to their own counities.I was able to announce a further 250,000of scholarships so that we could continue tosupport and deelop ore students fro Turke.

As a scholarship student, ou would beexpected to gie up soe tie to supportUniersit projects. We use these hours tosupport projects in our local counities, incentral London and in Harrow. Scholarshipstudents are now working with theCoonwealth Association for Scientic,matheatics and Technolog Educators,

International Students House, the SaferNeighbourhoods Panel aongst an others.We are working hard with our aluni to ndeploent opportunities and workplaceexperience for our students.

The Uniersit has agreed to cooperatewith Sloak Teleision (STv) on a teleisionprograe about studing at undergraduateleel oerseas.

Each onth, a different countr is featuredand four prograes are shown duringthe onth. The rst three are 26 inuteprograes which focus in turn on the countr,a specic uniersit in that countr, and aproinent gure with soe connection to thatuniersit. The nal prograe each onthis an hour long acadeic copetition wherestudents answer uestions in a series of rounds.The winner is awarded a scholarship to studat that uniersit.

According to the producers, this project isdesigned to deonstrate to Sloak studentsthat education is their best inestent. ears and our siler scholarships are worth

6,000 oer three ears.All scholarships will be paid as tuition feecosts, except in cases where the award exceedsthe cost of the fees, where the excess will bepaid as a cheue. All cheues will be adeaailable in Januar 2012.

The scholarship is guaranteed for the rstear, but subject to satisfactor acadeicprogress for subseuent ears. For Goldleel scholarships, the student ust aintainat least a 60 per cent aerage to receiethe scholarship the following ear. For Silerleel scholarships, the student ust aintainat least a 55 per cent aerage to receie thescholarship the following ear. The aerageis calculated at the end of ear one bdiscounting the students highest and lowestark, and aeraging the six reainingarks. At the end of ear two, the aerageis calculated b aeraging all eight arks.

The scholarships are for an undergraduatecourse in the Uniersit. These are open

to all applicants. For half of the aailablescholarships, priorit will be gien to ouif ou are fro our associate and partnercolleges and schools.

Tpicall, a Gold leel scholarship is set atthree As at A Leel, or euialent ualication,and Siler leel is set at three Bs at A Leel,or euialent ualication. Up to ten scholarships of 4,000 or2,000, depending on acadeic achieeents

will be aailable for care leaers for Londonboroughs. Care leaers fro outside Londonwill also be considered spatheticall for ourGold and Siler scholarships.

As a scholarship applicant, ou can waituntil ou know the outcoe of our scholarshipapplication before paing this deposit. It isrecoended that ou check with the BritishEbass how long it takes to process isasduring the Jul/August period. If ou areawarded a scholarship that includes a fullfee waier, ou will not be reuired to pathis deposit and the adissions ofces will benotied of this. If ou are awarded a part feewaier scholarship (eg, 2,000 fee waieror 50 per cent fee waier) ou will still bereuired to pa this deposit.

If ou feel that ou will coe to stud at theUniersit regardless of whether or not ou areawarded a scholarship, we would encourage

Who decides and how will I nd outthe result?The Scholarships Coittee akes decisionson all scholarship applications. The Coitteeis ade up of acadeic ebers of staff froacross the Uniersits four sites, staff withinthe International Ofce, Acadeic Serices,Counselling and Adice Serice and external

ebers. All are er experienced and akethe awarding decision based on the criteriafor the scholarship and the case ou ake.

Once decisions hae been ade, theadinistrator will write to ou if ou aresuccessful inforing ou of the outcoe.If ou are unsuccessful ou will be contactedas far as is possible.

Please note that the Coittee will notundertake or participate in an indiidualcorrespondence with ou, either before orafter the decision has been ade. The decisionof the Coittee is nal, and is not open toappeal. Lobbing a coittee eber willonl ake ou ineligible for a scholarship.

What do I do if I am awardeda scholarship?If ou are awarded a scholarship ou will beinfored b eail initiall. On conrationof receipt of the eail, ou will be sent anofcial letter fro the Scholarships Ofcegiing ou the details of our award. All ofcialarrangeents will be ade with ou directl.
