Scholarship Guidelines • You may apply for multiple scholarships but can only be awarded one. If you are in the top ranking position for

more than one scholarship, you will receive the scholarship with the higher dollar award.• To receive a scholarship, you must be in good academic standing.

• You must meet all of the criteria stated in the scholarship profile in order to apply.

• You must submit at least one written letter of recommendation and provide all requested information as indicated in the criteria for each scholarship for which you wish to apply.

• You may reapply each year for scholarships even if you were a previous recipient.

• The term “credits” refers to those earned by the end of spring semester in the current academic year or as stated in the criteria.

• If you are awarded a scholarship, you must sign an acceptance letter agreeing to the terms of the scholarship and write a thank you letter to the donor before funds will be released, and you will be invited to attend the scholarship awards banquet in the fall of the year of your scholarship award.

Purpose

Dr. Carl Gerber became president of Lakewood Community College in 1968 and completed his service in 1985. This scholarship pays tribute to the history of Lakewood Community College and the effective leadership of Dr. Carl Gerber.

Emmanuel Ogbebor was someone who put a smile on people’s faces. He was driven to make a difference in people’s lives through his profession as a nurse. He loved education and was a graduate of Century College. His generosity of spirit led him to donate a kidney to a stranger. He was not only kind, he was also filled with joy and humor. Sadly he passed away when only 29 years old. This scholarship was created in his honor by the people who worked with him. Purpose

To honor Gladys Dickey, a lifelong educator, by encouraging students to enter the field of education.Gladys Dickey was born in Iowa in 1888 and by 1911 had completed the two year course at Harris Teachers College in Saint Louis, Missouri. She began her lifelong career as an elementary school teacher in 1912. She loved children and children’s literature. Her enthusiasm for the stories of early American history was contagious. She touched so many lives and enriched them all, not only of her pupils, but of her nephews and nieces as well who hope that this scholarship, named in her honor, will enable others to follow her example.

Teaching Larry Litecky Legacy Scholarship Purpose To encourage and support the educational goals of those aspiring to teach at any level.

Dr. Larry Litecky served as president of Century College from 2000-2011. Under his leadership the campus experienced dynamic growth and change. Enrollment more than doubled, building projects resulted in a new science/library building, a technology center, a renovated West campus, a connecting bridge between the two campuses, and more. New initiatives to support student success resulted in Century College’s rise to becoming the first college in Minnesota selected for the national Achieving the Dream program, as well as winning a number of prominent awards.

Dr. Litecky believed in the power of Century’s teachers. This scholarship supports the educational goals of those aspiring to teach at the post-secondary level, especially in the community colleges.

To encourage and support a Century student who is a military veteran or currently serving in the U.S. armed forces. The Sherman Family Scholarship shall be a $500 annual cash grant scholarship.

It is given in memory of Daniel W. Sherman Jr. who served in WWII as a B24 bomber pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp.

1 @ $500 prorated between fall and spring semesters

Criteria

• Applicant is currently enrolled at Century College and is registered for a minimum of 6 credits during each semester the award is received;

• Applicant has a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher;

• Applicant submits a personal essay that indicates motivation and drive in their pursuit of a higher education;

• Applicant submits at least one letter of recommendation from a Century College instructor, administrator, or community member;

• Applicant is a veteran or a current member of the U.S. armed forces.
