Research is carried out in Developmental Biology, Structural Biology, Neuro-sciences,

Molecular Genetics, Cancer and Virology. The methodologies used include spectroscopy,

microscopy and imaging, molecular biology, genetics, protein design and engineering,

immunology, computer, modeling, electro-physiology and biophysics.

Eligibility :

Students with a good basic degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or any branch of

biology. Students appearing for their degree examination are also eligible for admission.

Financial Assistance :

Junior Scholars are paid a fixed monthly scholarship of Rs.2000/- p.m. An upward revision of

Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Fund

Jawahar Lal Nehru Scholarships for Doctoral Studies

The Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund offers Scholarships for duration of up to 2 years.

Categories of Candidates:

1.Indian National for Ph.D studies in India

2.Nationals for other Asian countries for Ph.D studies in India

Eligibility Conditions for Candidates are:

Should possess Post Graduate degree in First Class

Should not be above 35 years of age

Should be full-time Ph.D Scholar

Should already be registered for Ph.D Degree at an Indian University/Institution at the time of

making the application for Scholarship.

The Scholarship amount admissible to selected candidates will include Rs.9000/- per month as

tuition fee & maintenance allowance, and Rs.12,000/- per annum as contingency expenses

WOMEN SCIENTISTS FELLOWSHIP SCHEME

Scholarship For : Science Research

The Fellowship Scheme for women Scientists for societal programs (WOS-B) is initiative of

the department of science & technology. This scheme is meant for all those women having a

burning desire to utilize their scientific acumen through active research and development

projects which are aimed at meeting societal needs and aspirations.

OBJECTIVES:

1.Provide an opportunity for women scientists to re-enter into active research after a career

break through support for S&T based R&D projects addressing the needs of people in

unorganized urban or rural areas; and

2.Provide opportunity for S&T capacity building of women on issues relevant in societal

programs.

NATURE OF SUPPORT PROVIDED:

1.Support will include a scholarship grant of Rs. 15,000 per month for candidates with Ph.D.,

MS / MD and Rs. 10,000 per month for candidates having post graduate degree for a period of

two years.

2.Grant for minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, travel and overheads will also be

considered if found necessary under the work plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Indian nationals living in India and who are currently not employed in permanent position and

who possess one of the following qualifications;

1.Ph.D degree in science, master‟s degree in engineering or technology, architecture, medicine

or pharmacy

2.Who have break in career for at least three years or more after having master‟s degree in

science or bachelor‟s degree in engineering or medicine, architecture, or pharmacy

The applicant should be below the age of 50 years as on 15th February.

DURATION:

The scholarship will be given for duration of two years. The period may be extended to the

RAMANUJAN FELLOWSHIPS

Scholarship For : Science Research, Engg. Research, Engg. Post Graduate

Nominations are invited for the „Ramanujan Fellowships‟ recently instituted by the

Government of India. The fellowship is meant for brilliant scientists and engineers from all

over the world to take up scientific research positions in India, especially those scientists who

want to return to India from abroad. The fellowships are scientist-specific and very selective.

The Ramanujan Fellows could work in any of the scientific institutions and universities in the

country and they would be eligible for receiving regular research grants through the extramural

funding schemes of various S & T agencies of the Government of India.

All areas of science (in the broadest terms) will be covered by this fellowship.

ELIGIBILITY

The fellowship is open to brilliant scientists and engineers from all over the world who are

below the age of 60 years.

(i). The applicant should possess a higher degree or equivalent, such as Ph.D. in

Science/Engineering, Masters in Engineering or Technology/MD in Medicine, etc. and have

adequate professional experience.

(iii). These Fellowships are very selective and only those who have a proven/outstanding track-

NATURE OF SUPPORT:

• The value of the fellowship will be Rs. 50,000 per month for the first 3 years of the fellowship

and will be increased to Rs. 60,000 per month during the last two years.

• Each Fellow will, in addition, receive a contingency of Rs. 5.00 lakh per annum for

conferences and other expenses.

• The Ramanujan Fellows will be eligible for receiving regular research grants through the

HIGHER STUDIES

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the schemes is to award scholarships to meritorious students belonging to

economically weaker sections of society so as to provide them better opportunities for higher

education increase their rate of attainment in higher education and enhance their employability

SCOPE

The scholarship is to be awarded for studies in India in a government or private

college/university. It will also cover technical and vocational courses in Industrial Training

Institutes/Industrial Training Centres affiliated with the National Council for Vocational

Training (NCVT) of classes at Graduation level

ELIGIBILITY

Students who have passed Class XII exam or its equivalent in Year 2008 and are interested to

pursue higher education in the field of

a) Engineering

b) Medicine

c) Arts/Science/Commerce

d) Diploma Courses in any field and

e) Any Vocational course which leads to immediate employment and where minimum

education qualification stipulated is plus 2

DURATION

Scholarship shall be provided for the entire course.

RATE OF SCHOLARSHIP

Rs. 10,000/- per annum, Rs. 1000/- payable monthly for ten months directly into the bank

account of the Beneficiary.

CONDITIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIP

(i) Scholarship shall be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 60% marks

or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the annual income of whose

parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed Rs. 60,000/- per annum. Students

having the lowest family income shall be given preference in the ascending order.

(ii) The scholarship shall be discontinued if a student fails to secure 50% in B.A./B.COM and

55% marks in other streams or equivalent grade, in the previous final examination of the

course for which scholarship is awarded. Scholarship shall not be awarded for than the

normal period of time taken to obtain certificate/degree.

(iii) Scholarship shall not be given to more than one student in a family

(iv) The students should be regular in attendance for which the yardstick shall be decided by

the competent authority of the school/college/university.

(v) Income certificate should be on self-certification basis by way of an affidavit on non-

judicial stamp paper for self-employed parents and from employer for employed parents

supported by documents such as land held by revenue department in the name of parents.

(vi) If a student violates any other term and condition of the scholarship, the scholarship may

be suspended or cancelled.

(vii) If a student is found to have obtained a scholarship by false statements/certificates,

his/her scholarship shall be cancelled forthwith and the amount of the scholarship paid

shall be recovered, at the discretion of the concerned Divisional Administration of LIC.

(viii) LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation will lay down the detailed procedure for processing and

sanctioning of scholarships to eligible students.

(ix) Scholarship shall be credited to the student‟s bank account maintained at the place of

study. Efforts shall be made for transferring it electronically through the banks.

(x) The scheme shall be evaluated at regular intervals by the LICGJF.

(xi) The regulations can be changed at any time at the discretion of the Board of Trustees of

LICGJF

UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION

1. POST GRADUATE INDIRA GANDHI SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR SINGLE

GIRL CHILD

UGC has introduced a Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for single girl child with an

aim to compensate direct costs of girl education to all levels specially for such girls who

happen to be the only girl child in their families.

OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of the proposed scheme are:

a) To support post graduate education of single girl child in non-professional courses.

b) To recognize the value of observance of small family norm.

TARGET GROUP AND ELIGIBILITY:

Target group: The girl students who are admitted to various non-professional PG courses in

Universities/Colleges and happen to be the only girl child in the family.

ELIGIBILITY:

Any single girl child of her parents only. In a family if one son and one daughter is available

then girl child will not be considered for scholarship under the scheme. The scheme is

applicable to such a single girl child who has taken admission in regular, full-time Masters

Degree course in any recognized university or a post graduate college. This scholarship is

available to the student for first PG Degree only.

AGE:

Girl student up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in PG courses are eligible.

NATURE OF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE UNDER THE SCHEME:

The number of slots for scholarships available under the schemes are 1200 per year.

No tuition fees will be charged from girl students to pursue PG degree course in

Universities/Colleges/Institutions covered under Sections 2 (f) and 12 (B) of UGC Act.

The value of Scholarship is Rs. 2,000/- p.m. for a period of two years only i.e. duration of a

PG course. No other additional grant will be payable in lieu of hostel charges and medical charges etc.

GUIDELINES FOR POST GRADUATE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR

UNIVERSITY RANK HOLDERS IN GENERAL & HONOURS COURSES AT

UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL.

The UGC, therefore, introduced a Post-Graduate Merit Scholarship Scheme for University rank

holders both in General and Honours Courses at Undergraduate level.

The scholarship may be tenable for a period of two years to enable the rank holders of each

university at undergraduate level to pursue their Master‟s Degree. All the universities/degree

awarding institutions would be required to issue rank certificates to the toppers of the university

both in General and Honours Courses namely B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com The purpose of this

scheme is to attract talent for pursuing post-graduate studies besides strengthening the basic

subjects, General as well as Honours, at Undergraduate level. The awardees under this scheme

can pursue their Postgraduate programme in any area on specialization in any institution of

higher learning in the country.

OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHEME: The objectives of the scheme are:

a) To promote and nurture talent.

b) To reward meritorious students with outstanding performance at the undergraduate level for

pursuing postgraduate studies.

c) To promote study in basic subjects both General as well as Honours at undergraduate level.

d) To build up academic excellence at postgraduate level across the colleges and universities

in the country.

ELIGIBILITY / TARGET GROUP:

While in General Courses the First and Second Rank holders admitted in any Postgraduate

Programme would be awarded the scholarship, in Honours Courses the scholarship would be

awarded only to the First Rank holders. These awardees will have to submit the proofs of their

merit position at undergraduate level as well of their admission in postgraduate programmes.

The scholarship would, however, be subjected to securing a minimum of sixty per cent marks

at undergraduate level. The scheme is applicable to such students who have taken admission in

regular, full-time Master‟s Degree Course in any recognized university or a Post-Graduate

college. This scholarship is available to the student for first PG Degree only.

AGE LIMIT: Students is 30 years at the time of admission in PG course.

tenure of the scholarship will not be extendable beyond two years, under any circumstances.

The Sir Ratan Tata Trust awards scholarship to students studying in India

Covering tuition fee, at the undergraduate or postgraduate level. Hostel and other

Fee are not covered under the scholarship. For scholarship forms from the Trust

Office will be issued to the following course of study only:

• Students will NOT be issued forms if: (a) waived from paying tuition fee; (b) received full

scholarship from trusts / organizations; and (c) receiving stipend.

• All students who have passed their 12th (HSC) and have secured admission to the 1st year

Pharmacy, nursing, architectural or LLB (five year) courses are NOT eligible for the

scholarship.

• No forms will be issued to students studying diploma, part-time, correspondence or certificate

courses.

• Only one student per family may benefit from the scholarship, each year.

1. For Undergraduate/Postgraduate students studying in law, catering and hotel management,

education and fine arts, the cut off percentage is 65.

2. For MCA/MCM the cut off percentage is 70.

3. The cut off percentage for students studying in postgraduate pharmacy is 75.

4. The cut-off percentage for students studying in postgraduate nursing is 65.

5. The cut-off percentage for students studying in postgraduate architecture is 60.

Students who meet all the above criteria and wish to collect the application form may come to

Mulla House, 3rd Floor, 51, M.G. Road, Fort, Mumbai-400 001 along with a photocopy of;

• Current year‟s tuition fee receipt (April 2008 – March 2009) and / or for second year direct

admission students, centralized admission letter.

• Mark Sheet of the last year examination appeared for.

Outstation students meeting the Trust criteria may send the above mentioned documents by

POST to the Trust Office latest by month of September, at the following address:
