School Age: Famous Last Words (Matthew 27, Psalm 13, Psalm 22)

Family Talk  As a family take it in turns to share about the last time you felt really alone.  

Bible Time  Read Psalm 13:1, Psalm 22:1  How is the person feeling? (all alone, God is far away, God has abandoned them)  David wrote Psalm 22 one thousand years before Jesus came on earth.   In Psalm 22 David tells us how he felt - all alone, surrounded by enemies.   Even though this Psalm was about David, it’s about Jesus - the day he died.  

As a family sequence the set of pictures (see next page) and retell what  happened to Jesus the day he died.  

Read Matthew 27:46 ( use ICB version, Bible Gateway )   God’s plan was for Jesus to take the punishment for our sin instead of us.  Jesus was abandoned instead of us. So now we’re never alone. How amazing!  

Application (select from below)/Prayer:  Are you worried God might abandon you because of things you’ve done?  What’s the best thing about knowing that God is always with you?  Put your answers to one of the questions above into a prayer.  

Craft Options:  Option 1: Read the text and decorate the cross.  Option 2: Follow the instructions and make a paper chain.  

Jesus was left all alone because of our sins, so that we will never be left alone . God is always with us .
