This school year, we have created the Champion Block Party, where we move beyond the walls of the school into the neighborhood to promote literacy, health, involvement, and partnerships with local government. In addition, we are active members of the Greer Chamber of Commerce, attending monthly meetings and sharing our vision for college and career readiness. Our state SC Ready Assessment scores showed growth in the area of mathematics with our school scoring 52% of our students in Grades 3-5 achieving mastery or above. This is above the state average of 48%. In a comparison of schools statewide, we ranked in the top 65%. Our school ELA scores 39% mastery or above. This is slightly below the state average of 42%, yet in comparison with all schools in SC, we ranked 50% overall. We have identified ELA as an area for growth and as such, we have provided intensive professional development in Balanced Literacy. Our current MAP scores show that our efforts are yielding results with strand data showing significant growth. Our school, in partnership with the community, is aware that academics are only part of delivering a whole child approach to learning. For this reason, we have worked on soft skills such as greetings, eye contact, manners, and hygiene. We showcase a job of the week and work diligently to educate our students on future career opportunities. Lastly, as a 1-1 school in the use of Chromebooks for Grades 4-5, our students are learning with a 21st century mindset using technology as a core tool. The future will bring 1-1 to the entire school and professional development on personalized learning and all the components of 21st century learning. Our ultimate goal is to continue to grow mindset and reach 100% of our students with the possibilities that education can provide. We are Building a Community of Champions. Sincerely, Jane R. Mills

2016 -17

Our School Improvement Council has worked hard to grow membership, participate in community events, and mobilize increased student achievement with home to school partnerships. Our school participated in the GreerMade video project, which showcased our exposure clubs and the foundational work being done to educate our students in engineering, coding, drama, music, and journalism.

Sincerely,Jane R. Mills
