Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been lovely to feel spring is on the way and in Wednesday’s assembly this was our theme. We looked at all the
signs of Spring and how it is celebrated around the world within different faiths and their festivals. We looked at how
spring is the start of new life and how our world begins to become more colourful which is why the Hindu festival Holi
is all about being colourful. We then thought about the colours we could bring to each other’s lives; the red of a bril-
liant idea, the blue of being thoughtful, the yellow of laughter, the orange of warm friendship or the green of generosi-
ty.
Back in September we enrolled to be part of the Tate and Turner Prize and Oscar-winning artist Steve McQueen’s col-
lective portrait. The project plans to capture tens of thousands of Year 3 school children in a milestone year in their
development and be an epic picture of the city’s present and an intimation of its future. This week it was Holly and
Pear’s turn have their photography session. It will launch in the prestigious Duveen Galleries at Tate Britain this No-
vember.
On Thursday, Ash class were invited to take part in an author led workshop at Dalmain Primary School. The author's of the 'Kid Normal' superheroes book series, Greg James and Chris Smith, led a hall full of children through the jour-ney of creating a story; starting from simple ideas and characters. Demonstrating first hand, what an exciting process this can be! The children all received a book mark and a wrist band with the message 'You don't need superpowers to
be a hero'. Amelie was very brave and managed to ask for a selfie with the authors!
To build on our earlier success we began our next round of the math’s competitions, Sumdog this week. The contest,
which started today, is for Lewisham schools and next Friday will be the start of the London wide Sumdog contest. All
of KS1 and 2 are competing and we receive updates on the leader boards showing top student and top schools of
those involved daily. We will keep you updated of how we are doing.
Today was the last of our class assemblies and Holly class gave us a wonderful grand finale with a fabulous range of
amazing animal facts. They presented their findings in a lovely range of different ways and it was great to see such
confidence in their delivery. Well done Holly!
Further to your feedback, and to build on the successful Parent workshops we have delivered this year, we have
scheduled our next workshop for Friday 24th May 2019 around ‘how we can support our children to build resilience’
We have Natasha Orumbie who is the Safeguarding in Education Lead at Lewisham delivering the session, which will
start promptly at 8:45am and will last till 9:30am (refreshments will be served in the hall from 8:30) and there will be a
Senior Leader in the Early year’s playground to look after the children of those parents wishing to attend.
This forthcoming Monday 25th March 2019 at 9:30am we have our termly Rocksteady concert. Any parent who has a
child who takes part in Rocksteady is most welcome to come and watch.
As we are fast approaching the end of the term, please can I remind you all that school will be clos-
ing at 2pm for staff team building. As there will be no After School Club, please can you make alter-
native arrangements. Thank you for your support.
Wishing all our families a lovely spring time weekend!
Kind regards
Julie Loffstadt, Headteacher

The Early Years (EYs) learn through play with learning happening both in and out of the classroom. The teachers spend lots of time setting up learning in the EYs playground prior to school as they don't have time to do this once the day begins. Please can you help us by not letting your children play or disturb any of the equipment in the EYs playground before the school day? Thank you.

Thank you all for making school disco a super suc-cessful event. The feedback is that the kids had an amazing time and wanted it to go on for longer! Clearly, an event that needs to be repeated again. A huge shout to school staff for their help on the night and to all bakers/popcorn makers/helpers - we couldn't have done it without you. Not only much fun we had, but we raised £842! Thank you again for your continued support. We will be putting these funds towards creating a reading/quiet area in the foyer.
Whilst we all are looking forward to the Easter break, we are already planning for our next event - Three Peak Challenge/Mayfair on Sunday, 12 May. This event is open to all families/extended fami-lies/friends & to the wider community. More infor-mation to follow in due course, but if you would like to get involved in helping with this event, please do get in touch on [email protected]. Thank you!
