Aussie of the Month

Congratulations to Max who last Friday was announced as our Aussie of the Month.

Max always gives of his best both inside and outside of the classroom. Max

exemplifies our school values of Honesty, Respect, Care, Inclusion and Responsibility.

Well done Max we are all very proud of you.

Congratulations to Sienna who is our February Sports Star of the Month. Sienna loves

her PE and sport always giving of her best. Well done Sienna.

Our Performing Artist of the Month is Zac. Zac always gives of his best and loves

anything to do with the performing arts. Well done Zac.

Our Artist for the month of February is Poppy who has produced fantastic lined

drawing in her art class. We look forward to displaying Poppy’s artwork in the foyer

when it is completed.

A big thank you to John Michell who presented the Aussie of the Month awards to

our students.

Meet and Greet

Many thanks to everyone who attended the Meet and Greet last Tuesday. The Meet

and Greet Evening is a great opportunity for staff and parents to talk and hear about

the teaching, learning and expectations for the year ahead. The best educational

outcomes are achieved when staff, students and parents work together.

Swim Team

Congratulations to our Swim Team who competed in the District Swimming

Championships last Thursday. It is a great effort to be selected to compete at this

level. Congratulations to Sienna, Stephie, Chloe, Maddie, Taylesha and Zoe who have

made it through to the Metropolitan Championships to be held on Wednesday 8th

March.

WASPS Camp Feedback

Many thanks to the parents who have returned the Camp Feedback Forms over the

last few weeks. At School Council it was decided that we have camps for Grades 3/4

and 5/6 this year and next with the view to whether our Camping Program becomes a

biennial event from 2019.

We are now in the process of booking camps for 3/4 and 5/6 this year. We hope to be

able to inform everyone of our camps for 2017 next week.

School Council

School Council is the governing body of the school. Being a member of School Council

is a rewarding and challenging experience as we work hard to provide the best

Educational outcomes for our students.

School Councillors are elected for a period of two years and at the beginning of each

year we have a number of vacancies on School Council. This year we have three

parent vacancies and two staff vacancies.

If you would like to join our vibrant School Council, you can either self-nominate or be

nominated for School Council. Forms for nomination are available at the school office

and nominations close tomorrow, Friday 24th February. If you would like more

information about the role of School Council, please don’t hesitate to contact me at

school.

School Council meetings are open forums and parents and teachers are more than

welcome to attend.

Sub–Committees of School Council

We have a number of sub-committees of School Council and parents and staff are

encouraged to join a sub-committee.

The sub-committees are: Policy, Buildings and Grounds, Marketing, Finance and Out

of School Hours.

If you would like to join a sub-committee or would like more information, please

contact me at school. Forms are also available at the school office.

Parent’s Association

Many thanks to the many parents who attended our first PA meeting of the year and

to those that wish to be involved but couldn’t make the meeting. It was great to see

so many new faces join our vibrant PA.

Our Parent’s Association do a fantastic job each year in raising funds to further

improve facilities and opportunities for our children.

Our School Captains, Maddie and Cohen along with the Captain of our SRC, Ruari,

addressed the meeting putting forward their thoughts as to how we can further

improve facilities and resources for our students.

This week at The Hive we

Wednesday we found out Jess is pregnant! Jacob was

so excited and he had the awesome idea of surveying

everyone to find out what gender they thought Jess’

baby will be. First a tally was made and then we turned it

into a graph. I wonder whose predictions will come

true?!

Tuesday it was Kids Choice! We all made suggestions for how

we would spend our afternoon. In the end we decided on

going to the multipurpose room to play some group games.

Zoe ended up leading a game of Octopus

On Monday we kicked off our new term menu! After taking everyone’s suggestions on board

we wrote up a term menu. We started this morning with Pancakes for breakfast and Fried

Rice for afternoon tea. I wonder what other yummy options we have coming up?

On Wednesday its kids choice day! We’ll

take a vote and see who wants to get

outside for some group games or free

play, do some cooking or get into the art

room to create something special.

On Monday we’ll be getting messy in the Hive kitchen. We’ll all be taking turns measuring out the ingredients, cutting

them all into portions and mixing everything together! I wonder what delicious treats we’ll make today!

On Friday we’re going to get outdoors,

get some Vitamin D and enjoy some of

our favourite games, we’ll play games

like Octopus and have a run around on

the big kids playground!

On Tuesday we’ll head out to the big kids

playground to get some sun. We will play

some group games like Giants Treasure

using our team work skills to steal the

treasure before the Giant catches us!

Can you paint with all the colours of the

RICE?! Thursday we’ll be making

different pictures and using coloured rice!

In the morning using vinegar and food

dye we’ll colour the rice, and in the

afternoon we’ll create our master pieces!

District Swimming Well done to our Swimming Squad who competed in the District Swim Competition on Thursday 16th February, at Kilsyth Pool. Everybody swam very well and did the School proud. With our small squad we did well to finish in 6th place. The Carnival Referee also made special mention to me regarding the excellent behaviour of our Team. Well done! Thank you to Karen Temple who filled the role as recorder for the Carnival. Squad members include: Sienna, Stephie, Logan, Campbell, Chloe, Isabelle, Bailey, Cooper, Maddie, Mikayla, Keisha, Charlie, Zoe, Max, Charlie, David, Zara, Taylesha, Zoe, Scarlett and Lynda. I’m seeking your support for a significant community event coming up in Knox. I’m proud to be Patron of the event and I am encouraging local community groups to get behind the volunteer committee and get involved.

Knox Relay for Life supports the Cancer Council of Victoria. Relay for Life has been running in communities across Australia for 16 years and this will be the sixth anniversary of the Knox Relay for Life.

Knox Relay for Life consists of teams who walk, jog or run for 18 hours around the Knox Athletics Track. Rest assured, you don’t have to do the whole 18 hours yourself (although some people do!). Rather, your team has to ensure that your team’s baton is being carried for the entire duration. Teams gather sponsors and/or raise money for participating. The Relay is also a time to remember those who have been lost to cancer or are in the process of having treatment or to celebrate with those who have beaten cancer.

The Relay for Life this year is again occurring at Knox Athletics Track on Saturday 1 April 2017, starting at 4pm for the official opening and finishing on Sunday 2 April 2017 at 10am. The committee would like to see a record number of teams and participants for their sixth year as do I.

Please consider registering a team from your Community to participate in the event. Alternatively, you and your members would be very welcome to join TeamTudge or just come down to the event for part of the time and possibly throw in a few dollars.
