Parent Teacher EveningThis event was held on Tuesday 27 August andproved to be an enjoyable event. We had a recordnumber of interviews booked across all LearningAreas. Executive Team PL Half DayOn Monday 2 September, the Executive Team metto determine some key planning outcomes for2020. First among these was the organisationalframework for 2020. There will be four Year 7/8/9Student Teams consisting of roughly 130 studentswithin each team. One Year 10 Learning AreaTeam with a Year 10 Coordinator and one Year 11Team with a Year 11 Coordinator. The decision tobring the Year 9 students back onto the StudentTeam framework was made to cater for this groupwho are the last ‘full’ cohort for CBSHS and tobalance numbers. It will also allow growth for a2021 development of possible Year 7/8/9 StudentTeams and Year 10/11/12 Learning Area Teams. A full review of Student Services is also underwaywith the roles of team members to be refined andprograms conducted to be evaluated. The datagathered will inform Student Services planningbeyond 2020.

CBSHS P&CThe P&C held a Sausage sizzle at the ParentTeacher evening – it was a great addition to theevening and continues to raise the profile of thegroup in our community. It is great to see asecondary school P&C out in the widerGeraldton community. The P&C have finalised araffle for a bike kindly donated by Ian BlayneyMLA. Tickets were $2.00 and the raffle ran formost of this term, with funds raised to be puttowards a playground to be constructed on thegrounds after the removal of the old ClontarfAcademy transportable buildings. Congratulations to the successful ticket holders. Geraldton Network SchoolsA case for change is being formulated for thisgroup. The group is investigating consistency inpractice in teaching and learning across thenetwork, with a low variation approach betweenindividual classrooms and schools to improvethe effects of transiency and low attendance.

Third Technologies Rotation in Years 7 and 8Student courses in Technologies changed in Week 8 asYears 7 and 8 students started their last rotation forTechnologies. This means that over the year they willhave completed courses in Digital Technologies,Materials Technologies and Food Technologies.Technologies grades for the second and third rotationswill be included in the Semester Two report. The ARTScourses remain unchanged as they started a newcourse at the start of Semester Two.
Year 9 Electives for 2020Year 8 students will receive their ElectiveInformation Pack for 2020 in Week 2 ofTerm 4. In Year 9, all students select twoelective courses to study each week forthe semester. However, some electives, such as Class Music are studied for thewhole year. One elective choice mustcome from the Arts and one electivechoice from Technologies. Any studentwho is learning a musical instrumentthrough Instrumental Music SchoolServices(IMSS) at school must select ClassMusic to continue learning theirinstrument in Year Nine. Certain electivesattract a higher cost than others andrequire a deposit before students will beallocated a place in these classes. Thehigher cost options are very popular, sostudents are allocated a place on a ‘firstcome, first serve' basis. All Learning Areashave low-cost options to choosefrom. Please discuss your child's choicescarefully with them. The forms need to be read carefully andreturned to the school by 8 November2019. Students who do not return theirforms by this date will be placed intoElective courses where there is room. There is very little opportunity formovement once classes have been set, soplease make choices carefully. As the weather gets warmer, it is time again to reflect onthe term that has been. It has been another successfulterm with many of our Year 7 and 8 students beginningto show great maturity and personal growth. Thehighlight of my days is interacting with students duringrecess and lunch. Conversations are always sorespectful, insightful and friendly. I have also thoroughlyenjoyed visiting a range of classes and have evenextended my knowledge on species in Science, obtaining a refund on a bought item in HASS, numberpatterns in Maths and parts of speech in Literacy.Unfortunately, I missed the Year 8 Science lesson whenstudents dissected lamb hearts. I received an enormousamount of positive feedback from the students and eventhough it was "gross", according to some girls, it was funto learn in a practical task.

Left is the current attendance datafor Semester 2 as of the 23rdSeptember 2019. It is expected as theweather improves and sicknesslessens, that Term 4 will see anincrease in attendance. There is a lot of behind the sceneswork done by staff to follow up onabsences, which is often time-consuming and resource-intensive.To assist the school, parents andguardians are reminded to pleasecontact Student Services, FormTeacher or Team Leader when yourchild is away to explain theirabsence(s). Contact can be madeeither by phone, email or a note inyour child's school diary. Students are encouraged to makeevery school day count. Absencesadd up. Too many, excused orunexcused, can keep students fromsucceeding in school and life.Students are encouraged to pushtheir reset button for attendance atthe start of Term 4 and strive toachieve 90% and above attendance inthe last term. I wish all students a restful andpeaceful break and they areencouraged to start Term 4 refreshedand ready to go! Waneen Bennett Associate Principal

first kick of that competition that held the test oftime. At the end of the football, we had a relayrace around the oval. The Champion Bay boyssaluted the judges before the race. A spirit award was given out to one participant perteam, not necessarily to the best player, rather theperson who helped, tried their best and put theteam first. Once presentations and clean up were all sortedall teams headed straight for the Aquarena for aswim and some fun on the BIFF, Tarzan Rope andwater slide. This is one of the new initiatives wecame up with this year to really make a day of itfor the lads and they seemed to really enjoy it. Following the pool, the travelling teams all wentand had their own dinner and then we all metback up at the cinema to watch a movie togetherand chill out after a pretty tiring day. With the smaller number of teams competingadding in the extra activities helped to make theevent another raging success and we look forwardto the Midwest Cup in 2020. Dale Baynes Midwest Football Academy
The 2019 instalment of the annual Midwest Cuphas been run and won on Thursday 19thSeptember at GBSC Sporting Park and it wasanother raging success for the Champion BayClontarf Academy. This year we changed a few things up to make it amore vibrant carnival as fewer teams participatedfor various reasons. We kick-started the football with a coin toss fromCity of Greater Geraldton Mayor, Shane Van Stynand from there the action was on. All boysparticipating showed skill, flair and tremendousamounts of enjoyment, regardless of what thescores looked like. That is exactly how we like ourClontarf carnivals to be played. At the end of the day, it was Clontarf College whotook home the Cup as they were too good forChampion Bay, Karratha and CarnarvonAcademies. There was a Long Bomb Competitionheld throughout the day however, it was the very
