PRINCIPAL‛S MESSAGE BUILDING NEWS There will be some major disruptions to the school site from now until the end of term. We will be coordinating with staff and the builder to ensure school programs can proceed as normal.

• Thursday 2/11 – new fencing will be erected on the synthetic grass area to allow the removal of the demountable on McMillan Rd and relocation of the site sheds. These fences will remain for the rest of term.

• Thursday 2/11 – a section of McMillan Rd footpath will be dug up to relocate services for the new buildings.

• Friday 3/11 – footpath and gate leading to the canteen will be unavailable to us all day. There will be traffic control provided. We have arranged to minimise travel between sites and those students who need to cross will be supervised in front of the Abbott Rd gate and then the pedestrian crossing.

• Playground spaces will change for those two days. Y3-6 students will be dismissed from Thomson Park on Friday afternoon.

HOW CAN YOU HELP? If possible do not drive up McMillan Rd on Thursday or Friday. Perhaps park further away and get students to walk. Minimising traffic will help us keep children safe. Accessing the canteen on Friday will be difficult. Lunches will be delivered but recess will be challenging, so packing their own recess food on Friday would be helpful. Talk to your children about what is happening in the school. Teachers will also be talking to children about this. We appreciate your support and look forward to our new building and hall completion. CONGRATULATIONS Abigail Asscher of 1CD represented North Sydney Physie & Dance in “Junior Champion Girl” in the 5-6 year old group. Abi placed 2nd overall and has qualified to compete in the National Championships that will be held on 11th November. Well done Abi.

Mark Scott addresses local P&Cs The head of the Department of Education Mark Scott attended a Northern Sydney Regional P&C on Monday at Chatswood. Mr Scott made a wide ranging presentation and took questions from parents. Artarmon parents were in attendance and asked questions, including about the ongoing infrastructure needs in our region. Mr Scott acknowledged the importance of engaging with Principals and parents in the design and planning of school facilities. The meeting was a good opportunity for a positive meeting with Mr Scott and we look forward to building on that relationship with him in the future. Canteen Convenor and volunteers needed The P&C is looking for volunteers to take over the Convenor position and some volunteers to help organise the end of term sausage sizzles in Term 1, 2, and 3 next year. If you can help or are interested to find out more, please get in touch at [email protected] or [email protected]. Thank you to Louise Dawes, for her terrific work as Convenor again this year. P&C Meeting The next P&C meeting will be held on November 22 at 7pm. This will be our final meeting in what has been a very busy and rewarding 2017. Daniel McDougall P&C President, Artarmon Public School [email protected]

Band Camp – THANK YOU!!

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who contributed to the success of this year's music camp. The camp could not have happened without YOU! You will be to hear the results of all efforts by the great improvements in the students' music skills at the upcoming Band and Strings Concerts.

Lost Property

There are several items of lost property, which are now located in the music room—please ask your children to check in the music room if you think they may have left anything behind at camp.

And most importantly…

A HUGE thank you to band camp co-ordinators Atsuko Porman and Joanne Wang. They have put in a mammoth effort both at the camp and over many weeks in advance so that everything ran smoothly. Thank you so much!

Band Concert – 2:30pm Sun 12 Nov at the Conservatorium

Emails have now been sent to all Band Parents, advising of the details for our Biennial Band Concert. Due to the size of our Band Program and the limited space of our venue, there is an initial restriction of THREE (3) TICKETS PER FAMILY. Once we have confirmed all parents have had the opportunity to purchase, we will open any remaining tickets.

As there is no parking available on site, please consider your travel arrangements ahead of the event. Fortunately, we are hiring most of our percussion requirements directly from the Conservatorium, so there is NO truck required. However, this does mean you will need to bring your own instrument from home. Students and instruments are required for an earlier drop-off to allow set-up and warm-up before the event:

• Concert Band and Junior Concert Band – Please arrive at 1.45pm • Senior Concert Band and Training Band – Please arrive at 2pm

Any questions, please email your band co-ordinators and we will help you out ASAP.

Artarmon Music Program 2017 CD

Remember that amazing and colossal effort to take ALL of the musical kids over to the Fox Studios to record the CD… except for Training Band and Training Strings? Well, we did NOT forget you guys! You will be on the CD as well—our amazing band parent behind this masterpiece, Jessica Wells, will be attending at school to record our Training Band students on Friday 10 November. There will be a couple of microphones set up around the room; otherwise Jess will be there to capture the natural beauty of our newest musicians.

Parents: The CD will be available for purchase through TryBooking shortly – we will let you know as soon as it is available. We will also have copies to purchase the school Carols Night, so start taking orders from family and friends. I already have four on my list!

Strings News Music Camp was a HUGE success!! Thank you to all the kids, all the teachers and tutors, and the 100 parent volunteers who helped over the weekend! Yes, you heard right – 100 volunteers! We thank you so very much – these camps can’t run without you. And our own parent volunteer Atsuko gets a special mention of thanks for all the organisational work she put in. Well done everyone. The OC Information Day will be held on November 3. If any incoming OC students are keen to join the String Program, they will receive information on the day regarding the process. As for current students in Year 2, they will be able to see a demonstration on November 16 by the string groups. This will give them an idea of the sort of music they play and the look and sound of the different instruments. Oh, and an idea of just how cool you could look by being up there. Information will be included on how to register your interest and how to try out for the instruments. So don’t let this remain crumpled at the bottom of the schoolbag. Please do check! And for those kids not in Year 2 or OC who also wish to join, we will include a link in Newsflash next week to direct you to the information page. Rehearsal time and Supervision roster Training Strings – Tuesday lunch time 1-1:40pm in the Music Room 7 November – Family of Alison Zheng 14 November – Family of Jingren Warren Teaw Junior Strings – Monday 1-1:40 in the Music Room 6 November – Family of Jiah Lakshmi Shyju 13 November – Family of Toby Sperling Senior Strings – Tuesday 3:00-3:50pm in the Music Room 7 November – Family of Ka Wan Tam 14 November – Family of Kitty Wei Other dates for your diary: OC Information Day – November 3 Strings demonstration for Year 3 2018 – November 16 19 November – Strings Annual Concert at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, 3-5pm. Unfortunately there is no exception even if your child is in K-2 and is currently learning an instrument. Contact us on [email protected]
