PRINCIPAL REPORT
Dear Parents,
Dear Parents,
Unfortunately I was unable to attend the Cross Country on
Monday. Judging from the comments I have heard and the
photos, the event was enjoyed by all. Once again, it was
fantastic that so many parents were able to attend and
cheer the children on. Congratulations to those students
who have qualified to go to the district Cross Country on
the 12th May.

SCHOOL COUNCIL
Our first meeting for Term 2 will on Monday 8th at 6.30pm.
Finance and Curriculum Committees will meet at 6pm.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN testing begins on the 9th May. The National
Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)
involves students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 from all states and
territories in Australia and is overseen by each school.
If your child is in one of these years, the program will
assess their skills in four areas - Reading, Writing,
Language Conventions (spelling, punctuation and
grammar) and Numeracy.
These are the skills every child needs to help them
progress through school and succeed with future work and
study opportunities.
These national test results provide information on how
your child is progressing and performing in the key areas
5
of Literacy and Numeracy and also helps to support
improvements in teaching to benefit your child.
The assessments happen nationwide every year in the
second full week of May.
Tuesday 9th Language Conventions and
Writing
Wednesday 10th Reading
Thursday 11th Numeracy
NAPLAN tests provide very valuable information, but there
are no consequences for individual students for a poor or
good performance. At the classroom level it is one of a
number of important tools used by teachers to measure
student progress. To provide an overview of the format of
the tests, a full set of example tests is available.

A parent information sheet has been sent home with
Grade 3 & Grade 5 students today.
MINI BEAST PROJECT
Students in the Junior School having been investigating
mini-beasts this term. Tyson Jeffers has spent the last
week and a half doing a project at home. As you can see
he has done an amazing job!
Have a great weekend,
Regards Heather
A NOTE FROM THE GARDEN
What a fabulous time we had in the kitchen making our
pizzas with Ms Anset today! We picked beautiful ripe
capsicums, eggplants and herbs for our pizzas. Thank you
to the James- Wilson family for growing awesome fresh
basil for our pizzas. The recipe for pizza dough is in the
newsletter again this week – enjoy! We are sending out
invites for adult helpers with our 4 head chefs each week
to engage more helpers in the programme. If you have a
spare few hours on a Tuesday, we would love your help –
invite or not!!
We were a little rushed in the garden this week as we
spent the majority of our time in the kitchen. We planted
out dwarf and climbing beans as well as coriander in our
garden today. One group created a beautiful climbing
bean structure out of tree branches, Seasol was spread on
all beds and herb beds weeded – phew, we are just so
busy. If anyone has any compost or delicious soil for us to
top up our beds in the garden, we would love it!! We also
need good quality shelving for our new Garden
greenhouse if anyone can help us out. Thank you so so so
much to the wonderful parent helpers at our working bee
for putting up our new green house. What a difference it
will make to getting seedlings up and happening over the
winter.
Happy cooking and gardening.

SOCIAL SKILLS PROGRAM
Following on from concepts 1, Treat others as you would
like to be treated and concept 2, Be Brave and Participate,
GradeS 1-6 covered another 3 concepts developed by
Wilson McCaskill.
Concept 3.
Pursue your personal best, no matter who you work with.
Students identified personal qualities that assisted them to
achieve success when working on their own and with
others. Then we discussed what pursuing your personal
best would look like in class.
We don’t always choose our friends to be our
partners.
We listen to other children’s ideas.
We persist when faced with difficult situations.
We understand the importance of hard work and
effort.
We work on our strengths as well as areas that we
need to further develop.
Concept 4.
Have reasons for the things you say and do.
Students were able to list our school rules and shared the
reasons for having these rules. They also discussed what
this concept looks like in class.
Respect our school rules because rules have
reasons.
Respect the rights of others.
Think before you act.
Always use our manners.
Put my thinking in charge, not my feelings.
Be kind and forgiving.
Concept 5.
It takes great strength to be sensible.
The students were encouraged to think of examples of
what being sensible looks like in our school.
Not being distracted by others.
To keep working even when the teacher is not
looking at you.
Helping others to be strong and sensible.
Playing by the rules.
GRADE 3 / 4 NEWSLETTER
It hasn’t taken long for holidays to seem to be a distant
memory. The children are hard at work again. Cross
Country was a wonderful afternoon with all the children
participating with a smile on their faces. Well done to all
the children.
In Numeracy we are very busy learning about money and
in Writing the genre we are working on Narratives.
NAPLAN is next week so the Grade 3 children have been
very busy preparing for this.
Week 5 is assessment week so the children will be very
busy doing a wide variety of Assessment… There will be
no homework for week 5.
