SIS-RRI CONFERENCE: SCIENCE, INNOVATION AND SOCIETY – ACHIEVING RESPONSIBLE RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
On November 19-21 the National Research Council (CNR) in collaboration with the Agency for the Promotion of European Research (APRE) will host the International Conference on “Science, Innovation and Society: Achieving Responsabile Research and Innovation”. The conference locations will be the Auditorium Parco della Musica and the MAXXI-National Museum of XXI Century Arts.
The Conference will debate on how Responsible Research Innovation (RRI) can better engage society in research and innovation activities throughout the six following Key Areas:
Public Engagement
Gender Equality
Science Education
Ethics
Open Science
Governance
“Science Art Society” Exhibition in RomeMAXXI, the National Museum of XXI Century Arts
A small experiment built on the crossroads of three worlds: this is the Exhibition Science Art Society
It moves from the realm of scientific rationality to the kingdom of creative fantasy,
It ends up to the complex and sometimes mysterious dynamics of our society
The objective is to strongly link artistic production and scientific research, in order to produce emotions and feelings.
From liquid crystals to light-matter interaction, from thermodynamic properties to optical illusions: the language of the laboratories modifies and changes its structure, evolving and acquiring new meanings.
The Exhibition focuses on the pilot projects of “Art and Innovation”, funded under FP6 SaS and FP7 SiS EC Programmes, and on the output of CNR projects related to the same topics
The artworks and the “hands on” Exhibits show scientific contents while proposing a variety of suggestions, connected to artistic multisensory interpretations
It is a multisensory and interactive path, which let the visitor move and explore in complete freedom
Vortexes and turbulences, bacteria and atomic vibrations: everything is expressed through different artistic languages, collected in a final specifically realized installation

Quanta
Prototypes of clothes
Way of Immortality
OPTICAL ILLUSIONS
THERMAL SENSATION POLAROID
Look at a light source through a Polaroid sheet and rotate the sheet in front of your nose. Does the light intensity changes?
Are the hot/cold sensations that you feel consistent with the temperatures reported by the thermometers?
ONE SPHERE, A HUNDRED SPHERES
Can you predict what column it will end up in with certainty?
A novel installation has been implemented to induce a reflection about the seen artworks. The installation will allow to choose and assign to each artwork a tag.
The system suggests some key words and some others could also be added by the visitors.
The selection of the key words
stimulated a reflection on art and science through the association among emotions and sugestions coming from everyday life.
The collective effect of such interaction will be shown as a tag cloud where the size of the words are proportional to the frequency of occurrence.
Real Time Clouda Cloud in real time will collect key words chosen by visitors
1) list of exhibits in relationschips with location and social needs
2) specific application for evaluating the collective effect of visitor interaction and impact
3) formation of the scientific facilitators
The proposal for «exportable exhibition» ….will be the beginning of a new relation between science and local territorial context, through the creation and improvement of:
- local and international scientific networks
- new public policies for integration of research in urban life
Exhibitions and participatory events shall be interactive and adapted to local/regional conditions (i.e.: use of relevant case-studies) and shall take place in the local languages.
Exhibits shall provide material for dissemination and make use of existing multimedia and other relevant technology (e.g.: social media, virtual reality, scenarios, gaming, etc.) and shall employ inclusive participatory techniques to engage with multiple publics (children, youth, women, adults, and other relevant stakeholders).
