Dr.PaulThomas(AssociateProfessoratCOFA)willbepresentinghisresearchintonanotechnologythroughhisartworksMidasandNanoessence.Thefocuswillbeonnanotechnologyandtheexplorationofmaterialityandimmaterialityinthe
expandingareaofartandsciencepractice.Nanotechnologieshavecreatednewwaysofthinkingaboutmaterialsandprocessesthatconstructdifferentsocialrealities.Thepresentationdrawsoncontemporaryscienceandartpracticetoconfronttraditionalunderstandingsofmateriality,exploringkeyissuesthatdefinepossibleshiftsinourconsciousunderstandingofmatter.ThetalkwillexplorehiscurrentresearchintoRichardFeynmansfamousdiagrams,paralleluniversesandquantumtheories.
TracySarroffwillbepresentingatalkaboutsciencefictioninrelationshiptohervisualartspractice.Ecologyandconcernsaboutartandscienceunderliethemajorityofherprojects.Whatprevailsisaninterestintherelationshipbetweenecologyandscienceandthecreativeboundariesofwhatisbothimaginaryandreal.Frequentlyusingideasthatarealliedtosciencefictionandsciencefact,Sarroffsworkmanifestsanambiguityinrelationtonaturalandartificialengagement.Transgenics,biotechnology,microscopy,andsciencefictionhavebeensomemajorthemesfuellingherexplorationstodate.Oftenthesethemesrelatetocontemporarysociety
andmovementsinscientificresearch.Duringherpresentation,thesetopicswillbediscussedandanalysedinrelationtocreativepracticeandthezeitgeist.
