Welcome to the Science Learning Centre East MidlandsTechnicians Support Autumn Term 2012

Welcome to the Autumn Term Technician update which outlines our programme offering the very best continuing professional development (CPD) across the region.

This update outlines our provision for the forthcoming autumn and early spring terms but we also offer a broad range of services for individual staff, schools, departments or technician groups. This includes CPD needs analysis, subject specific audits, general science education advice and mentoring as well as designing tailor made bespoke CPD sessions of any length.

For an increasing number of our secondary schools and colleges we regularly provide departmental bespoke CPD as well as tailoring suites of twilight sessions aimed at specific needs. Whatever colleagues’ needs are for science education we can offer advice and support so please contact us to find out more.

We also have a range of techniques aimed at measuring the impact of CPD and this is an important aspect of our work.

A local technician who recently attended one of our face to face sessions commented:

“Best ‘hands on’ session I have ever attended, delivered by an interesting and engaging trainer. Have a better understanding of what students are asked to look for and feel more capable of helping out during a class.”

Please call us directly to book a place or to find out more about our activities on 0116 252 3771.

Our team look forward to welcoming participants to our sessions very soon.

Technician Support Services

Our support for secondary schools and colleges includes a bespoke or tailor made service where, working alongside schools or colleges, we can develop CPD specially designed for staff. The CPD can be of any length from a few hours to a whole day and be completely tailor made to meet needs. We will develop ideas and identify and liaise with a high quality trainer who will then deliver what is needed, when needed!

However, we can deliver much more than CPD and we have a range of support options and packages available to suit all needs and budgets.

For example:

• Does the school/college need to work on providing exciting contexts & strategies for students?

• Does the school/college need to improve student’s practical and technological skills?

• Does the school/college need help to differentiate and personalise the science curriculum?

• Does the school/college require help in supporting the work of science departments such as the introduction of new practical procedures?

If this is the case then we are best placed to help! Our design and deliver ‘packages’ of support can incorporate face-to-face sessions as well as ongoing mentoring and coaching throughout the year. Our offer is much wider than the CPD sessions found in this leaflet so please contact us to find out more.

Face to Face Support CPD out of School or College

One of the benefits of coming out of school or college to attend CPD is the opportunity to network with other colleagues from across the region, share good ideas and be able to spend time fully focused on an aspect of work.

CPD Support in School or College

Much of the CPD in our programme can be run in school or college for staff. This can be a very cost effective way of ensuring they have access to the very best science CPD costing from £85 per person! Support within school or college can be beneficial by providing opportunities for groups of staff to work collaboratively.

We are also in a position to organise CPD for both clusters and families of schools as well as technician groups. Bringing staff together facilitates sharing of ideas and good practice.
