Modern Science•Quantum theory deals with the small scale world of atoms and particles.

•The theory of relativity covers the large-scale structure of the universe.

•Scientists are searching for a complete and consistent theory that unifies quantum and relativity theories.


Quantum theoryIn 1900, Max Planck published his theory explaining the emission spectrum of black bodies (Quantum theory).

"quanta", comes from the Latin "quantus", for "how much". In physics, quantum refers to an indivisible, and elementary entity.

The Planck length is 10-36 meters. (That is one meter divided by one followed by 36 zeros!)

The Planck time is 10-43 seconds. (That is one second divided by one followed by 43 zeros!)


Need for a cosmic factor Albert Einstein, after his theory of special relativity (1905) and theory of general relativity (1915), intuitively felt the need for cosmic factor and incorporated it in his theory as cosmological constant. Later, he abandoned it due to its incompatibility with physics.

“Results found in 2000, however, revealed that Einstein was probably right after all: the cosmological constant not only exists, but dark energy probably makes up the largest source of matter/ energy in the entire universe.”(From: Einstein’s cosmos (2004) by Michel Kaku-Page 215)


Before the Big Bang Singularity: A point at which the space-time curvature becomes infinite.•According to most scientists, the point of singularity was the reality before the Big Bang.•This picture shows evolution of the universe from the point of singularity.

Time is currently defined via measurement. One second is 9,192,631,770 oscillations of a hyperfine transition in the 133Cs atom.

Light year is the distance covered by light in one year travelling at 300 000 kilometers per second.


Space-timeEinstein linked space and time into space-time or space-time continuum. In this picture, earth is depicted in two spatial dimensions X and Y (the plane of the earth orbit) and a time dimension. It may be noted that the orbit of the Earth is (almost) a circle in space, but its worldline is a helix in spacetime.


GravityNewton discovered gravity and his law of universal gravitation states that every object in the Universe attracts every other object with a force directed along the line of centers of mass for the two objects.

Three nuclear forces• Strong nuclear force tightly holds

the protons together in the nucleus of an atom.

• Weak nuclear force is responsible for the decay of some sub-atomic particles or radioactivity.

• Electromagnetism is the force that acts between electrically charged particles.


Symmetry after the Big Bang This is symmetry immediately after the Big Bang. It broke when temperature of the universe lowered and a number of completely different particles at low energies emerged.Similar symmetry will appear at the end of the universe or at the time of Big crunch.


Nucleus and field of an atomAn atom may be visualized as a ball shaped soccer field of several kilometers diameter with the referees of the size of wasps in the center (as nucleus) and balls of the size of mosquitoes moving in the field as electrons. The players are invisible!


Galaxies formed in the universeThis is a view of a cluster of galaxies that may be called observable or visible universe. It is impossible to observe the whole of the universe. The total number of galaxies and clusters of galaxies is not known.


Our galaxy-The Milky WayThe Milky Way, is a large disk-shaped spiral galaxy about 100,000 light years in diameter and 3,000 light years in thickness.It contains about 3×1011 (300 billion) stars and the sun is just one of them.


Molecule

Generally, a molecule is the smallest particle of a pure chemical substance that still retains its composition and chemical properties A molecule is a sufficiently stable, electrically neutral entity composed of two or more atoms. Water moleculeH2O An oxygen atom can bond with two hydrogen atoms to make a molecule we call water.


Covalent bond of atomsA covalent bond is formed when the electron clouds of two atoms overlap. Where the clouds overlap they are thicker, and their electric charge is stronger. A group of atoms joined in this way is known as a molecule. The number of covalent bonds which an atom can form depends on how many electrons it has.


Entropy and the states of gross matter

According to the Laws of Thermodynamics, entropy, the measure of the disorder in a closed system, and its direction -- toward increasing disorder -- cannot be reversed. Most liquids contract (get smaller) when they get colder. Water is different. Water contracts until it reaches 40 C then it expands until it is solid. This property is important for preservation of life under very low temperatures.


SupernovaWhen the star cools and its energy is reduced, it explodes and throws away some atoms that combine to make molecules. The picture here shows supernova like explosion.Current theories connect the formation of the solar system with supernova. The sun had, perhaps, two supernova like explosions. The first one created the bodies Jupiter and beyond, and the second one created bodies closer than Jupiter.


The Solar System


EarthEarth emerged as a ball of fire after supernova like explosion of the sun. Gradually, it cooled and had the proper climate, water and fertile ground for life to survive and prosper.

Wave/particle duality

• The quantum theory has shown wave/particle duality of reality at sub-atomic level

• This confirms the relevance of waves or non-matereial phenomenon in understanding the reality.

• Information theory is an example of this wave/particle duality.


What is spirituality?

• Understanding the Unity of Cosmos, the Creator and the creation.

• Belief in and devotion to the Supreme Power (God, Supreme Spirit, Cosmic Consciousness etc.)

• Correct interpretation of the reality of consciousness.


Duality and consciousness… In quantum theory, elementary

particles behave sometimes as waves and sometimes as particles.

This duality suggests that as waves

the particles are connected to the field that contains those waves but is non-manifest.

While the manifest reality of the universe is energy/matter, the non-manifest reality is consciousness.

Consciousness, code and mind…• Duality implies connectivity.• Particles and waves interchange

information through some code.• Brain-mind having the dual elements is

able to interpret the code and connectivity between the two sides of reality.

• Understanding the wave part of duality and consciousness is essential for comprehending the non-manifest reality.


What is consciousness?Consciousness generally means a

quality of the cognitive mind to understand the subjectivity, self-awareness, will and the ability to perceive the relationship with each other and with the environment.

By `consciousness' I simply mean those subjective states of sentience or awareness that begin when one awakes in the morning from a dreamless sleep and continue throughout the day until one goes to sleep at night or falls into a coma, or dies, or otherwise becomes, as one would say, `unconscious'. (John, R. Searle)


Consciousness through qualiaQualia are considered to be the micro wave

form of consciousness just as quanta are the micro energy form of matter.

According to Daniel Dennett, qualia are:1. ineffable (they cannot be

communicated); 2. intrinsic (non-relational properties); 3. private (interpersonal comparisons of

qualia are impossible); and4. directly or immediately apprehensible in

consciousness.


Life and Consciousness •Life, as we know, is only on the earth.•The source of life is the continuum of waves/particles at the quantum level that carry the code of life. Those waves are present universally ever since the creation of the quantum field in the universe. •At the level of galaxies, stars and other celestial bodies, the source of life is dormant due to the absence of appropriate physical conditions. On the earth, however, the physical conditions such as water, soil, climate, etc. were appropriate for emergence and evolution of life.•Human mind-brain has a special feature that enables the processing of wave / particles associated with life and consciousness through coding and decoding. Only the human mind has the capability of self-awareness and even more, to attain the other levels of consciousness.

Three parts of brainThe neurologist Paul MacLean has

proposed that our skull holds not one brain, but three, each representing a distinct evolutionary stratum that has formed upon the older layer before it.

spiritual traditions taught the same idea of three planes of consciousness and even three different brains.

Consciousness in brain •The place of higher level consciousness in the human brain is considered to be the cerebral cortex. Its structure is different from the brain of other animals. •Neural circuitry underlying human consciousness includes both the advanced neo-cortex and prototypical structures of the brain stem.


Consciousness and neuronsNeurons are the basic information processing structures in the brain. Some scientists say that there are a million billion synaptic connections through which "information" flows that causes consciousness. This would be possible only at wave level inside the atoms of the neurons.


Consciousness and microtubulesA new theory of the quantum mind-brain has emerged in which the cores of microtubules inside neurons of the brain perform the quantum-scale information processing and conscious awareness. This theory is motivation by the fact that neurons in the brain are too large for significant quantum effects. Roger Penrose and Stuart Hameroff are the authors of this theory.

Science and religionAfter a conference on cosmology organized by the Jesuits in the Vatican, (1981) Stephen Hawking met Pope and wrote as follows: “At the end of the conference the participants were granted an audience with the Pope. He told us that it was all right to study the evolution of the universe after the big bang, but we should not inquire into the big bang itself because that was the moment of Creation and therefore the work of God.” From ‘A Brief History of Time’, p. 161


Physics and consciousnessScientists are now accepting the existence of the phenomenon of consciousness. In view of duality and uncertainities at quantum level, deeper realities are being explored. “…a physical ‘theory of everything' should at least contain the seeds of an explanation of the phenomenon of consciousness… It must be of such sophistication that the brain is enabled to dig more deeply into the fundamental workings of the Universe than are more commonplace physical systems.” Roger Penrose in an article in Nature (257 – 259, January 2005).

Shri Yantra mandala…Yantra or mandala is elsewhere have been practicing different techniques a powerful tool to get in contact with our inner and outer realities. Sages in India and of meditations on Shri Yantra and applying them for Self-realization for thousands of years. Shri Yantra is also considered to be the abode of the Goddess of Supreme Knowledge (Shri Vidya).


Shri Yantra design in lines•Shri Yantra’s beauty, complex design and geometry has always amazed and puzzled the artists and scientists.

•The inner part of Shri Yantra has four triangles with apexes up and five triangles with apexes down. The bindu or small circle is located in the center. There are two lotus chakras, one of eight petals and another of sixteen. Three circles and a line are the outer parts of the Yantra.

Hexagons in the inner circlesIntersection of lines of the nine triangles are called Chakras (circles) although they appear as hexagons. The total number of blue and pink areas is 89 which is the tenth Fibonacci number.


Hexagons converted into circlesThe total number of blue and pink areas remains 89 (43 blue and 46 pink ). The pink areas represent the energy aspect and the blue areas represent the energy aspect.

Chakra-3 and the atomsThe third Chakra of Shri Yantra has ten energy areas. The two additional areas in this Chakra are the symbols of:

Chakra-4 and the molecules

The fourth Chakra of Shri Yantra also has ten energy areas. Several atoms join to make molecule and there is no additional physical element.


Chakra-5 and life, senses, intelligence, and creativity. • The fifth Chakra of Shri Yantra has fourteen

areas. Additional areas in this Chakra are the symbols of life, senses, intelligence, and creativity.

• Life, as we know, is everywhere on the earth. Over the last 3.7 billion years or so, living organisms on the earth have diversified and adapted to almost every environment imaginable.

• There are five senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste. Our knowledge through senses is limited to nearby perceptible objects. This knowledge is not always accurate.

• The term intelligence of animals is used for cognition. Level of intelligence in different animals depends partly on the size of their brain.

• The word creativity conjures up visions of artistic endeavours, the writing of literature and scientific inventions and discoveries.


Chakra-6 and air

The sixth Chakra of Shri Yantra is symbol of air.Air is a name for the mixture of gases present in the Earth's atmosphere. The amount of water vapor in the air varies considerably depending on weather, climate, and altitude.

Yantra is symbol of fire.

Fire is a form of combustion. Linguistically, the word fire refers to the combination of the brilliant glow and large amount of heat released during a rapid, self-sustaining burning of combustible fuel.


Chakra-8 and waterThe eighth Chakra of Shri Yantra is symbol of water. Water has three states:

• solid (ice or snowflakes),

• liquid, and• gas.


Chakra-9 and earthThe ninth Chakra of Shri Yantra is symbol of earth.It is the largest of the solar system's terrestrial planets. Its single natural satellite is the moon.
