Good luck to all four houses for 2021. Which house will earn the most points this year?

Acting Principal: Robyn Trzeciak

After spending a lot of time at home last year, we’re off to a busy (and messy) start to 2021 in Science & Technology. This year we’re going to spend a lot of time making toys and detailed models.

Junior students have been playing with electronics, and examining the inner workings of musical birthday cards.

Students in Grade 3 made a model city, and are now moving on to making toy boats. The first step is learning about buoyancy. Grade 4 examined old laptops. The intent was for children to stop viewing computers and other devices as “black boxes.”

The Senior students imagined they worked for a large toy manufacturer such as Mattel, and went through the entire production process – they designed, assembled, and advertised their own toys. Some students assisted in the assembly of some of our new tools.

This week we are READING

Mr. Fenner: Boy: Tales of Childhood by Roald Dahl. Boy is one of my absolute favourite books. It’s all about Roald Dahl’s childhood and everything that happened to him, whether that was going to the lolly shop on the way to school, swimming in the fjords in Norway or putting dead rats in jars to scare old ladies. It inspired many of his books and the films too. I remember when my grade six teacher read it to my class 22 years ago!

Teacher Book Spotlight

The Treehouse Book Series by Andy Griffiths It’s about 2 boys named Andy and Terry and they always have very wacky adventures. Each new book they always add another 13 storeys to their treehouse. By Sajid

I don’t have a favourite book but I like the books written by Roald Dahl and David Walliams. Their stories are very descriptive and interesting. They inspire me to write my own. I don’t have a favourite genre either but I don’t like sci-fi or romance. By Jana.

Goosebumps: The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight by R.L Stein is my favourite book. It is about a brother and sister visiting their grandparents farm. Some weird people arrive and events happen. I enjoyed reading this book and have read it 4 times so far! I like the detail and the scenes in the book and how you can see it in your mind! Read & Reviewed by Raihan. Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Last Straw - Read & Reviewed by Jasmine I like this book because it’s funny. Greg, the main character, tells you about his life and talks about his friends. He also tells us about his siblings as well, sometimes it can be really relatable. Scarlet and Ivy: The Curse in the Candlelight by Sophie Cleverly - Read & Reviewed by Shasta. This book is really enjoyable, each chapter has a cliff-hanger. It is a really interesting story and is very descriptive. It’s set at a school called Rookwood, a new girl arrives but there is something weird and mysterious about her. York by Laura Ruby Read & Reviewed by Ashley My favourite book is called York, it’s really interesting and descriptive so that means I can really visualise what is happening.

After School Gardening Program

We are currently running an After School Gardening Program. This week we started learning about succulents, and created a pot to take home and look after. In coming weeks we will have an opportunity to plant, harvest and tend to our beautiful vegetable garden.
