  • SCIENTIFIC MIRACLES IN THE GLORIOUS QURAN

  • Consultant Physician and NephrologistMRCP (UK) , FRCP (Edinburgh), FRCP (London)King Fahad Specialist Hospital - Dammam

  • The Scientific Miracles in The Holy Quran (Examples)Al-Nasiyah (front of the head and the brain) in The Holy Quran and medicine (Prefrontal lobe).Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) functions and ablution (Wudu).Breast feeding in The Holy Quran.Embryology in The Holy Quran. Iron (Fe) in The Holy Quran and medicine.Water (H2O) in The Holy Quran, science and medicine.Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) e.g. AIDS in Islamic teaching and medicine.

  • INTRODUCTIONMessage of Holy Quran.Number of medical and cosmic verses (ayaat) in the Holy Quran (ayaat with scientific reference). The Holy Quran and science. The Quranic system in the mankind and universe. Two books (The Holy Quran and the universe). The rationale for recurrence of ayaat of scientific reference in The Holy Quran.

  • The Quran is a book of faith (Iman) and guidance (Hidaayah). It also includes educational dimensions for the establishment of a virtuous society. Allah (SWT) says: " ""And we have sent down to thee the book explaining all things, a guide, a mercy and glad tidings to muslims(An Nahl:89). : 89

  • There are many verses (ayaat) in Al Quran al Kareem which deal with different branches of science ( medical and cosmic). We have reviewed and classified these verses according to their scientific topics and also studied the rationale behind their recurrence in the Quran.

  • The results were as follows:First: There are approximately 1200 ayaat which refer to the different sciences, which constitutes nearly 20% of the total number of ayaat (6236) in Al Quran al Kareem.

  • Second: There are approximately 70 ayaat praising Science and Scientists, encouraging them to be involved in discovering the universe for the good of humanity. As a matter of fact the first five ayaat revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH ) ordered him to read and learn.

  • Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (1) Has created man from a clot (2) Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,(3) Who has taught by the pen,(4) Has taught man that which he knew not (5)Al-Alaq 1-5 (1) (2) (3) (4) (5): 1-5

  • Third: The studied ayaat were categorized according to their scientific topics as follows:

  • The System of The Holy Quran: in the Universe and Mankind!!

  • The Holy QURANMANKINDUNIVERSESCIENTIFICKNOWLEDGE TRUTH(AYAAT) THE

  • TWO BOOKS !!(Quran and Universe) 1st. The written and readable book !!

(The Quran words of Allah -SWT)

    2nd. The visible book !!

(The universe created by Allah -SWT)!

  • Recurrence of the following words in Holy Quran Day :365 times . Month :12 times .Moon :27 times .Sun :33 times .Sun and Moon in same Ayaah : 19 times.

  • Al-Nasiyah (front of the head & the brain)

  • The holy Quran describes the front of the head in the disbelievers being lying and sinful !!Allah (SWT) says: (a lying sinful nasiyah (front of the head).(96: 16)( ) ( : 16)

  • Since the front of the head does not speak, how can it be described as being lying? It does not commit sins. How is it then said to be sinful?

  • The linguistic meaning of the AyahAllah (SWT) says: (Let him beware! If he does not stop, We will take him by the nasiyah, a lying, sinful nasiyah!) (96:15-16)

    Al-Nasiyah: the front of the head. ( . ): 15 - 16

  • Most commentators have interpreted this Verse metaphorically, saying that describing the nasiyah being lying and sinful is not to be taken literally; the description is attributed to the owner of the nasiyah and not to the nasiyah itself.

  • Other commentators did not comment on the Verse sparing themselves the involvement in something beyond their knowledge and the knowledge of their age.

  • The function of this part of the brain that lies in the font of the human head (the prefrontal cortex ) is to control the human behavior. Functions of prefrontal area in the brain:

  • The prefrontal cortex constitutes the bulk of the frontal lobe of the brain, and its function is involved in the making of ones personality. It is also considered as a superior center among the centers of concentration, thinking and memory. It plays a significant role in the persons emotion and it is somehow concerned with initiative and discrimination.

  • Prof. Dr. Keith Moore, who stated that the front of the head is responsible for judging and for directing human behavior. The working organs of the body (e.g. the limbs or tongue) are but tools to carry out the decision made in the front of the head

  • He, confirming what he had said, added: When a person intends to tell a lie, the decision is made in the frontal lobe of the brain, which is the front of the head. If he wants to commit a sin, the decision is made there, too

  • Functional MRI of the brain

  • Functional MRI of the brain showing the area of lying in the prefrontal cortex

  • Prof. Keith Moore, illustrating this Scientific Miracle, says: The information we now know about the function of the brain, was not mentioned throughout history, nor do we find anything about it in the medical books. Should we survey all the medical literature during the time of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and several centuries thereafter, we would find no mention of the function of the frontal lobe (nasiyah), or an explanation of it or a statement about it except in this Book (the Holy Quran), which indicates that such information is of the Knowledge of Allah, the Almighty, Who knows everything, and that Muhammad is Allahs Messenger Conclusion

  • !! Prostration of the brain !!Allah (SWT) says in The Holy Quran: (And to Allah prostrates whoever is within the heaven and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and their shadows (as well) in the mornings and the afternoons) Surrah 13: 15 : ( ) : 15

  • Front and lateral views of the brain in prostration

  • CEREBROSPINAL FLUID (CSF)FunctionsSterile: The purest fluid in the body!Origin: Choroid plexus in the brain ventricle.Volume: about 125 mlTurn over (Circulation): 5 times during 24 hrs * (Ablution -Wudu For 5 prayers during 24 hrs!)* Cortex of neuroanatomy,by:Malclom Carpenter,P 28,3rd edition (1999). International student edition, Baltimore-USA.

  • CSF surrounding the brainTurn over (Circulation) of CSF: 5 times during 24 hrs! Ablution Wudu of the brain for 5 prayers during 24 hrs!

  • The rationale for recurrence of ayaat of scientific reference in The Holy Quran(Allah SWT knows best)

  • A-To support the six principles of Faith (Iman), especially the Iman in Allah Almighty and in the hereafter.B-To stimulate thinking and scientific research in order to discover the universe.C- To express the power of Allah Almighty and his unique creations.D-To show the mercy and the numerous favours of Allah Almighty to mankind.E- To give evidence that the Quran is the word of Allah Almighty revealed to His Prophet Muhammad (PBU). The scientific miracle of Holy Quran.

  • ) (We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their ownselves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Qur'n) is the truth Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things?(Surah Fussilat: ayat 53): 53

  • We have deduced from our study and Allah knows best, that the rationale for the recurrence of those ayaat are to achieve the following aims:

  • A-To support the six principles of Faith (Iman), especially the Iman in Allah Almighty and in the hereafter, for example Surah An-Nisa ayat no. 136. It was found that there is a strong correlation (about 92%) between such ayaat and these principles of Iman as follows:

  • ( ) : 136

  • O you who believe! Believe in Allh, and His Messenger, and the Book which He has sent down to His Messenger, and the Scripture which He sent down to those before, and whosoever disbelieves in Allh, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, then indeed he has strayed far away.An-Nisa, 136

  • B-The unprecedented nature of scientific content: to stimulate reflection and research in order to discover more about the universe.

  • Then High above all be Allh, the True King And be not in haste with the Qur'n before its revelation is completed to you, and say: "My Lord! Increase me in knowledge"( (: 114(Surah Taha: ayat 114)

  • C-The scientific miracle of the Quran (Ijaz): to show and give evidence that the Quran is the word of Allah Almighty revealed to his Prophet Muhammad (PBU)

  • ) (We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their ownselves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Qur'n) is the truth Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things?(Surah Fussilat: ayat 53): 53

  • D-To express the power of Allah Almighty and his unique creations (Surah Al-Muminun: ayaat 21 -22).And Verily! In the cattle there is indeed a lesson for you We give you to drink (milk) of that which is in their bellies And there are, in them, numerous (other) benefits for you, and of them you eat and on them, and on ships you are carried( (

  • E-To show the mercy and the numerous favours of Allah Almighty to mankind (Surah An-Nahl:ayat 18).And if you would count the graces of Allh, never could you be able to count them Truly! Allh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful( (
