Scratching the Surface so the Light Shines In

IshoveledaliFlebitofsnowafewweeksago.Imustadmit,Ididn'tdoagreatjob.Ionlyhadafewminutestoclearmymom'sdrivewayandmylackofNmeshowed. Yes,IcompletedthetaskbutleQbehindtracksofsnowwhere theshoveldidn'tconnectwith theground,pileswhere Ididn't tossmyworkquite farenough,patchesthathadbeenpackeddownbysnowbootsandwouldnoteasilyscrapeup. LiFletrailsofthefrozenstuffremainedwhileIhurriedtocovermoreterritorythanmyshovelwascapableofdoing.

AsIfinished,anotherneighborcalledoverandaskedifIwouldshovelapathtothemailboxforher.Whenthattaskwasquicklyfinished Ihurriedback toputmy thingsawayandgetonmyway. Then InoNced thatmyhalfwayjobnolongerlookedhalfway...theintenselightofthewintersunwasdoingitswork.ThesnowIhadleQbehindwasquicklybeginningtomelt.

ItwasthenthatInoNcedanotherdriveway.. Coveredandundisturbedbythesamecoupleofinchesofsnowthathadcoveredmymom'sdrive. Thesunshiningonthegroundwasexactlythesame. Theonlythingthatwasdifferentwasthesnowononedrivewasdisturbed,andscratchedandbroken,theotherwasuntouched.Andwhereitwasuntouched,nothinghappened,noteventhesuncoulddoit'swork.

The work at St. Trinity someNmes looks like those two driveways. It oQen seems as though we've onlyscratchedthesurfaceofsomanyoftheproblems,challengesandissuesthatsurrounduseveryday. Itseemslikewearedoingajobpartway,oQenhurriedandrushed,leavingalotofresiduebehind.Andyet,Godusesthatwork, thatscratching thesurface, that"disturbing" toshine thebrightand intense lightofhis loveandgrace. Thatlightbeginstomelthardenedhearts,healbrokenrelaNonships,andrestorewhatGodcreatedtobe.

ThanksfortakingNmetoreadaboutsomeofthethingsGodisdoingatSt.Trinity.Asalways,yourprayer,yourencouragementandyoursupportaregiQswereceivewiththanksgivingandjoy.

Happening This Month at St. Trinity

The Story

God goes to greatlengths to rescue lostand hurNng people.That iswhat The Storyis all about --the storyof the Bible, God’sgreat love affair withhumanity. Condensedinto 31 chapters, wewill spend the nextseven months goingthroughGod’sStoryonSunday morning andduringtheweek.

TheStorysweepsyouintotheunfoldingprogressionof Bible characters and events from Genesis toRevelaNon. UsingthetextoftheNIVBible,itallowsthestories,poems,andteachingsoftheBibletoreadlike a novel. And like any good story, The Story isfilled with intrigue, drama, conflict, romance, andredempNon--andthisstory’strue! Thebookswhichwe will be using both on Sundaymornings and forweekly gatherings are available in the Narthex for$5.00.

Ash Wednesday and LentAtSt.TrinitywewillgatherwithChrisNansaroundtheworld to observe the40Days of Lent. ThisNme leading up to Easter allows us to focus onand prepare ourselves to once again rememberand celebrate the great act of God’s salvaNonthrough the death and resurrecNon of JesusduringHolyWeek.

On Ash Wednesday, February 10thwe will joinforworshiponWednesdayeveningat7PMintheSanctuaryforaNmeofrepentanceandreflecNon. Those who desire to receive Ashes on theirforehead as a mark of repentance will be giventhe opportunity to do so. Please join us thisWednesdaytobeginourLentenJourney.

On the Five Wednesdays following AshWednesday,wewill gather in theFellowshipHall(school basement) for a more informal Nme ofworship, discussion, learning and fellowship.Thosegatheringswillbeginat6:30PM. Wewillserve dessert and drinks. Our more structuredNme be from 7:00 - 7:45. All are invited andencouragedtoparNcipate. Wednesday Morning Bible Study

StartsonWednesday,February17that10:30AMhere at church. The course will be a more indepth study of the lessons for “The Story” foreachweek. During Lent, theNmewill also be aLenten gathering for thosewho don’t like to getoutintheevening.

ThetablewasfilledwithfoodsfromeveryimaginabletradiNonandtheairwasfilledwith laugherandthe joyfulsoundsofavarietyofwomancelebraNngtheironenessinChrist.

Thefirst “InternaNonalWomen’sDinner” at St. Trinity invitedparNcipantstobringadishthatwas importanttotheir familyor their ethnic heritage. Almost 30 women gathered in thefellowship hall for food, friendship, games, a devoNon led byDebbieMoellerandaNmetogettoknoweachother.

Much like the Christmas party held in December, the dinnerhad a broad representaNonof people. Long there St. Trinitymembers, new friends from the neighborhood, recent guestsat church and thosewho serve regularly in one of our helpingministries.PraiseGodfornewfriendsandgrowingrelaNonships.
