Lasermet Laser BlockingScreens are offered in standardand heavy-duty options. Bothare made from materials whichhave been specially developedby Lasermet using their expertunderstanding of practical lasersafety requirements. Thesescreens can be used to blocklasers of all wavelengths.

Standard Laser Blocking Screens

These are available in two standardsize screens. The LBS-8 is 2.44 m (8 ft) wide and the LBS-4 is 1.22 m (4 ft) wide.

Both are 1.92 m (6 ft 4 in) high, whichis high enough to protect the eyes ofanyone less than 6 ft 8 inches tallstanding right up to the screen, while low enough to pass througha standard doorway. The screenscan be made higher if desired.

Standard Laser-Blocking Screensconsist of a black powder coated steelframework, mounted on lockablecastors. The framework supports alaser-blocking screen made fromLasermet's specially-developedlaser-blocking material which sealsto the floor.

The material is white on one sideand black on the other side andwill operate as a blackout screenas well as a laser-blocking screen.

Both sides will block laser radiationbut if the white side is used as thelaser-blocking side a higherspecification of blocking will beachieved, making it suitable forhigher power lasers.

The material is fireproof. Whenirradiated with greater than 0.5MW/m2 it will emit a non-hazardoussmoke and may glow, thus indicatingthat a stray beam is present.

Standard screens can be wheeledeasily into position and then keptthere by locking the castors. Multiplescreens can be connected togetherusing connecting pieces (LBS-C) in astraight line or at an angle up to 90degrees. If four or more screens areused a rectangular enclosure can beconstructed.

Lasermet offers laser users a range of laser-blocking free-standing screens, curtains and roller blinds.

Designed for use as passive guards to enclose an area where Class 3B or Class 4 lasers are in useeither to protect against accidental exposure to the laser beam or for long term blocking of laserradiation at lower power densities. They have all been developed by Lasermet specifically to provide themost cost-effective and high-quality solutions to virtually all laser-blocking requirements.

All Lasermet laser-blocking products are CE marked and certified to EN 60825-4 (Safety of LaserProducts Part 4: Laser Guards).

Laser-blocking curtains, roller blinds and standard screens are made from a laser-blocking materialwhich has been specially developed by Lasermet. This can be supplied off the roll or as ready-madeceiling or wall-mounted curtains, roller blinds, window blocks or free standing screens and enclosures.

Also available are heavy-duty screens for high power, multi-kilowatt materials-processing lasers. These are made from a 50 mm thick sandwich of steel and a special lightweight laser-blockingmaterial.

Heavy-Duty Laser Blocking Screens

These screens are designed to blockall lasers, including high power,multi-kilowatt materials processinglasers.

There are two standard size screens, both of which are 1.98 m high. TheLBS-HD-8 is 2.35 m wide and theLBS-HD-4 is 1.185 m wide.

The screens consist of a 50 mm thicksandwich of steel and a speciallightweight laser-blocking material, with a white laminate finish on bothsides. This is mounted on a powder-coated steel framework, withheavy-duty lockable castors.

The screens can be wheeled intoposition and then kept there bylocking the castors. They can be usedto form a complete enclosure or partthereof.

Heavy-duty screens can be usedto block lasers of all wavelengths. They offer protection to the followingspecifications:

Where a production line uses a Class4 laser for cutting and welding, it isimpractical for the whole facility toobserve Class 4 safety regulations. However, laser blocking screens canbe formed into an enclosure to protectother workers, or alternatively acomplete enclosure can be built (seeover page) to turn the laser facilityinto a Class 1 system.

Laser-Blocking Curtains

Laser-Blocking Curtains are madefrom Lasermet's specially-developedlaser-blocking material and can besupplied ready-made as ceiling orwall-mounted curtains. The materialis white on one side and black on theother side and will operate as ablackout screen as well as a laser-blocking screen.

Both sides will block laser radiationbut if the white side is used as thelaser-blocking side a higherspecification of blocking will beachieved, making it suitable forhigher power lasers.

The material is fireproof. Whenirradiated with greater than 0.5MW/m2 it will emit a non-hazardoussmoke and may glow, thus indicatingthat a stray beam is present.Protection times given by the materialat various power densities are shownin the specifications below.

The top of the curtain has brasseyelets every 150 mm and the curtainis supplied with a stainless steel hookfor connecting to a curtain track.

The weight of the material is 1.3 kg/sqm. Heavy duty curtain tracks can besupplied for smooth operation and forapplications where the curtain needsto be suspended below the fixingpoints high-quality cubicle curtaintrack is available.

Laser Blocking Roller Blind

Lasermet Laser-Blocking RollerBlinds are made from the sameLasermet laser-blocking materialas the curtains and are made-to-measure to fit any size of window. They are available as standard orencapsulated options.

When using Standard Laser-BlockingRoller Blinds for non-recessedwindows it is advisable to allow anextra 50 mm on the height and width, giving an extra 100 mm all round, thereby ensuring that there is nopossibility of laser beams passingthrough the window.

Encapsulated Laser BlockingRoller Blind

Encapsulated laser safety rollerblinds are made using the samelaser-blocking material as thestandard laser safety roller blinds. However, the roller blind is built intoa white finish aluminium frame, which encapsulates the top, bothedges and bottom of the blind. This eliminates any possibility oflaser beams passing round the sidesof the blind, blocks out all light andgives a much neater finish.

Class 1 Enclosures for Class 4Lasers - CE Certified to EN 60825-4

We supply and install Class 1 roomsize laser enclosures for high powerlasers. All enclosures are sold testedand certified to EN 60825-4 (Safety ofLaser Products Part 4 - LaserGuards). These can be suppliedcomplete with interlock system andilluminated signs. Fume extractionand/or air conditioning can also besupplied, as can CCTV. This is a costeffective and extremely easy methodof enclosing your laser system whichfulfils your safety requirements andfrees up space for other activities.

The specification of the enclosureto EN 60825-4 is as follows:

Shown here pictures of a 5 m x 5 m x3 m enclosure with double doorentrance, for a robot mounted 2 kWfibre laser. This enclosure wassupplied complete with interlocksystem, laser safe vents, CCTV andlighting.

CE Certified Laser BlockingPartitions

We also supply CE certified laserblocking partitions with or withoutdoors, for dividing one laser lab intotwo or more sections. These semi-permanent partitions are costeffective and extremely quick toinstall, without the mess and fuss ofbuilding a brick or plasterboard wall.As such they offer an alternative totraditional methods of room division, and can also be easily undone at alater date if required. Alternativelythey can be left as a permanentinstallation.

All partitions are tested and certifiedto EN 60825-4 with the followingspecification:
