PARISH UPDATE Families Growing in Faith and Youth Ministry had a successful first gathering. If you have not registered, you still have time. Registration information and step-by-step instructions for registering can be found on the parish homepage. Confirmation preparation begins Sunday, September 26th at 9:30am in the gym. All 8th grade students are encouraged to register. The Diocese of Youngstown Department of Pastoral and Educational Services directs that all parish faith formation processes for adults, youth and children held inside any parish buildings comply with the mandatory mask wearing by all persons, those unvaccinated, and those vaccinated, until further notice. During Families Growing in Faith and Youth Ministry masks are required for all during class time, drop off, and pick up. Those thinking about becoming Catholic are encouraged to contact Roberta Muoio. We have continued to bring new people into the Church during the pandemic, and we have some right now who are interested in exploring Catholicism. This is a great time to get started - including if you're not ready to make a commitment yet! Contact Roberta at [email protected] or 330-492-3119, ext. 218. We continue to broadcast Mass to the Fannon Center for those who need extra social distance - but we have moved this service to the 8:30 am Mass. This is also due to technology capabilities at the 4pm Mass in doing a livestream or recording for those at home at the same time. The Diocese of Youngstown, in conjunction with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), are inviting us to support their efforts in responding to the humanitarian needs arising from Hurricane Ida, local tornadoes and flooding and any other projected weather related damage. We will continue to have a basket available for donations. You can also find a link for online giving to these relief efforts on our homepage: www.stmichaelcanton.org This weekend we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. The theme this year is: “Say the Word and my soul shall be healed.” Each one of us, by virtue of our Baptism, is called to share our faith and witness to the Gospel. As we thank, commission and bless those in our parish community who serve us in catechetical ministries, may each of us rededicate ourselves to sharing the Good News in big and little ways every day.

All are welcome and encouraged to spend quiet prayerful time with Jesus. Jesus is the Word made flesh who was at the Creation, took on human form to teach us how to live, offered himself, as expiation for our sins, reconciling us to the Father, and regained for us eternal life. Thank-You from McGregor Intermediate School

Dear St. Michael Parishioners,

On behalf of the entire McGregor staff and students, I would like to thank you for your generous donation of food for our students and families in need.

Your donation provides our students with the nutrition needed to help them achieve their daily academic goals. Your generosity and thoughtfulness shows your dedication to the children in our community. The entire McGregor family appreciates all your efforts to help our students have a successful 2021-2022 school year.

Thank you again for your support!

Sincerely,

Barb Bartram

School Community Worker, McGregor Intermediate School

How are you doing lately? Many people are feeling tired, stressed, overwhelmed, sad, and lonely during the COVID 19 pandemic. Financial stress, social isolation, schooling from home, and so many other factors are making life difficult.

Did you know that St. Michael is a Stephen Ministry parish? We have highly trained volunteers who are available to provide social, emotional, and spiritual support to those having difficulties in life. These volunteers will speak with those in need, in person or by phone or video so they can journey with you for a time until life gets a bit easier. The service is free and confidential. If you are interested in having a Stephen Minister OR you would like to be a Stephen Minister please contact the parish office or email [email protected].

FROM THE OFFICE OF DEVELOPMENT ~ John DeCola

If you are over 70 1/2 and subject to mandatory distribution, one way to avoid paying taxes on your Required Minimum Distribution is to donate it to St Michael the Archangel . A qualified charitable distribution allows you to make donations to a charity directly from your IRA. So if your RMD is $5,000 and you typically give $5,000 to charity each year, you can donate that money and not pay tax on it. As always, consult with your financial advisor to see if this is a good idea for your particular situation.

ADULT DAY SERVICES/ ST. JOSEPH SENIOR LIVING LOUISVILLE The Adult Day Services (ADS) facility operated by Catholic Charities Serving Portage and Stark Counties is open and

accepting participants on a limited basis. Our ADS offers a safe and secure

environment for older adults in need of supervision or assistance with activities of daily

living while family caregivers are at work or attending to other responsibilities. We

have implemented strict pandemic related protocols to help ensure the health and

safety of participants and staff. Our well-maintained facility is located on the St. Joseph

Senior Living campus in Louisville. For more information, please call 330-875-7979 or

email [email protected].

Please plan to attend an hour presentation during this “Year of St Joseph,”

on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 7:00 P.M. @ St. Joseph Church,

Canton in the church. The title is: God’s Just, Patient and Attentive Servant,

presented by Fr. James McKarns. First, we will hear about the recent

Apostolic Letter of Pope Francis, “Patris Corde – A Father’s Heart.” Secondly, various popes and saints will be noted as some who

especially gave impressive honor to St. Joseph. Thirdly, the passages of SS. Matthew and Luke, about St. Joseph, offer scriptural

insights about the husband of Mary, the faster Father of Jesus and this most unique person who is admired and honored as this

just, patient and attentive servant of God. All people who desire to serve God can find in St. Joseph, true qualities, which can give

us guidance and inspiration to live our spiritual lives.

Year of St. Joseph Commemorative and Prayer Cards will be handed out to everyone attending the program.
