Imagine the mythic fantasy of stumbling into an opening in the woods and gazing upon a giant bench, so

clearly oversized that it could only be meant for creatures much larger than you. Or nding a beautifully craft-ed saw blade shaped object clawing out of the soil as if midway through cutting a path in the earth? These

sights and many more are part of the Stevens Point Sculpture Park located at 900 North Second Street on thenorth side of Stevens Point. The park is open year round with free admission, and houses a mind-stretchingarray of sculpture. National, regional, local and student art is featured, as both temporary projects and per-

manent exhibits. Proposals to be considered for showing at the park are made to the committee and a majori-ty vote accepts the submission. There are currently 22 artists with art featured on exhibit at the park.

Title: Blind ConsumptionArtist: Victoria OllhoThere will be a faucet installed with a ceramic slab of red meat pouring outof it. Below the faucet there will be mouths waiting to consume whatevercomes out. This project is a statement about the blind consumption of redmeat and its eects on rainforest deforestation.

Title: Forest SpiritsArtist: Jessica KruseThis piece is composed of multiple Kodama gures created of white clay.

The gures are about a foot tall and placed according to the essence thetree is near. Kodama are believed to be the spirits that dwell in the forests. They are all individualized; similar to the way trees are all unique. There aremany dierent versions of these forest spirits in dierent religions & beliefsystems.

Title: KineticArtist: Justin BehmA hanging mobile constructed using branches and twine will be hung from the

center of this space. These branches will interact & blend with their surroundingareas. Colored fabric will be loosely attached to the branched symbolizing mans af-fect on the world around him. The piece with hang approx. 10 feet long and 5 feet wide.

Title: Secure in the KnowledgeArtist: Tim VermeulenThis artwork will incorporate the use of a large, printed encyclopedias and otherreference materials installed among a stand of trees. The books will be attached tothe trees by white cotton swaddling bands. In the year 2012, Encyclopia Britannica, Inc.

announced that it would no longer continue to publish in print format, and that it wouldshift its entire business to be an online reference source.
