President's Message

Greetings from hot Virginia:

Well have I been busy this Summer. Building a new house, taking care of business for Singles and just doing private things have had me running from place to place like a busy bee!

Carol Klenow, our former Treasurer, had had some health problems and is now on the mend. I wish her well in recovering and getting on the road again. I have taken on her duties until October when we should have a new Treasurer. Boy will I love that!

Nancy Miller, our National Director, was too ill to join us at the convention, but she is also on the mend and will do that duty at Perry in March 2018.

The Thanksgiving rally is set for Eustis, Florida at Southern Palms RV Re-sort; the Christmas rally will be held in St. Augustine FL at the St Johns Flea Market and RV Park; and the New Years festivities will be at International RV Park in Daytona Beach FL.

We have several new members this month and hope to have more soon since the resolution to let in 5th wheels and trailer passed its first vote at the Indiana Convention. It has been resolved to present the modification to the by-laws. The amendment will now be presented to the FMCA membership and all members will vote on it. If it passes, then next fall it will be ratified by the National Convention.

Keep on RVing and let us know where you travel and what you have seen....in other words put something in the Scuttlebutt. Just let Pat Moore, our Scuttlebutt Editor, know.

INDIANAPOLIS RALLY

The pre-Rally was held from July 6-10 at the New Lisbon Family Campground near New Castle IN. Some of us made a trip to see the birthplace of Orville and Wilber Wright. We went out to dinner a couple of times. Happy hour was enjoyed every day. The park had a band on the weekend, and we had a French toast and bacon or sausage breakfast. Those attending the pre-rally were; Susan Balmert, Chuck Dilgard, Dena Kelly, Carol Klenow, Helen Kurthy, Dale Koepka, John McPherson and Ethel Sawyer. We also had a couple of PNO's (Past National Of-ficers) stop by overnight with us: Jane Prayor and Ginny McGraft. They provided a watermelon for our happy hour to go along with our pizza.

We were joined at the Rally by the following SI members: Tom Cahill, Michael Canode, Jimmie Crawford, Jeannine Fontaine, Bobbie Harden, Judy Howard, Pa-tricia Moore, Joyce Nesbitt, Rodger Smith and Barbara Walser. The weather was hot and we had a lot of rain. Therefore, our Happy Hours were held inside John McPherson's motorhome. Thank you John and a big thank you to Ethel for her hard work and for all the great food she made for us to snack on.

The SI's were in charge of the games at the rally. We held Card Bingo and a Corn Hole Tournament. We had 490 people show up to play card bingo! Carol was our caller and John gave out Rally Bucks along with candy to all the winners. John had all the winners sign their name on a card and after the game drew a name for a Grand Prize.

There weren't as many participants for the Corn Hole tournament but all had a good time. Jeannine did another good job and the winner's also received Rally Bucks as prizes.

Thanks to all the SI's that helped at each event. We will be in charge of these games at all the FMCA Rallies. Carol and John are our game captains. Be sure to let them know in the future that you will help them out.

Safe travels and I'm sure we will see each other again somewhere down the road or at the next rally.

Susan Balmert

Tires Expire in Six Years— by Tire Safety Group

The evidence is clear: tires should have an expiration date. Older tires are substan-

tially more likely to fail than newer ones. This is because tires are made mostly of rub-

ber, and rubber degrades with age. Sunlight, heat, ice,

and general wear and tear can accelerate the breakdown

of a tire. Once a tire begins to break down, it becomes

more likely to fail in the form of a tread separation–often

at highway speeds, when the failure is most likely to

cause catastrophic injuries or death. For most tires, this expiration date should be six years from the date of manufac- ture. Tires age danger-ously because of a chemical pro- cess commonly referred to as oxidation, which simply means that as the tire components are exposed to oxy- gen, the oxygen parti-cles cause the flexible compo- nents of a tire to harden and become brittle. Over time, the tire will simply fall apart under normal stress, just like an old rubber band. Because this process occurs nat- urally, it does not mat-ter if a tire is being used, stored as a spare, or simply waiting on a store shelf for an unsuspecting consumer.

Breakfast casserole in the crock pot! • Cooks while you sleep!

• .* Ingredients:

• 1 bag 26 oz. frozen hash browns

• 12 eggs

• 1 cup milk

• 1 tablespoon ground mustard

• 1 16 oz. roll sausage maple, sage or regular sausage.

• Salt and pepper

• 16 oz. bag shredded cheddar cheese

• Directions: 1. Spray crock pot and evenly spread hash browns at the bottom. 2. Crack 12 eggs in a large bowl. 3. Mix well (and slowly) using a whisk. 4. Add the milk. 5. Go ahead and sprinkle in the ground mustard. This might sound like a weird ingredient, but I've come to love (and use) this in most of my recipes. 6. Add plenty of salt.... ...and lots of fresh pepper. Mix well and set aside. 7. Cook the sausage on high heat, drain and set aside. 8. Add sausage on top of hash browns. 9. Is this enough cheese? May-be? Probably. Throw the whole big bag in there. 10. Mix it up well. Or good, depending on where you're from. 11. Pour the egg mixture over everything in the crock pot. Using a wood spoon, even everything out so it's spread evenly. 12. Turn the crock pot on low for 6-8 hours. Some fun variations of this recipe. Before cooking (during prep) you can add: chunks of sourdough bread diced chiles, salsa, diced green on-ions
